When we walk through the lane of Tinsel town, the technicians, actors and the infinite list of participants in Kollywood has made us experience Love, Affection, Anger, and Friendship so on. They have from time to time been an inspiration and even more than that.

Today on August 4 where the saying “A Friend in Need is a Friend Indeed” evokes us to look out for a shoulder to lean on, to hang out with a chum, just throw rocks on the sea, we celebrate a day for Friendship. And let us look at a few of Kollywood’s best pals off the cinematic screen, who pretty much inspired us! The first part will feature classic friendship that was seen over the Golden Age of Tamil cinema, a few of the best for friends:

Puratchithalaivar and the Villain

Who would’ve thought two of the biggest enemies on the screen are the two of the best of friends off the screen? Yes! MGR and Nambiar who almost acted together in most of their movies, share a friendship that always wondered the people on the sets! So much that no one had the freedom Nambiar used to enjoy around the CM.

Sevaliyar and Kadhal Mannan

Shivaji Ganesan was a phenomenon in Tamil Cinema for his acting which moved mountains, and Gemini Ganesan was the man who could easily flatter any women, and the grapevine was that both of them were never good friends, but there was no solid proof at all. Ask the oldies and they are sure to decline this, as in truth both of them were good pals.

The Poet and the Comedian

If one of them made the soul dwell in some lines of harmony, the other made you fall of from the chair with guffaws, contrast yes, but the friendship dates back to the days of being roommates in Triplicane. Vaali and Nagesh were good friends who did not just shared rooms, but also encouraged each other on their respective careers.

Ulaganayagan and Superstar

For ages the media and fans have been fighting it out on “Who is the numero Uno?” But are they? Nope, the duos have a rare breed of friendship that envies even the best in Indian Cinema. One moment when Kamal quoted bits on RajnikanthKamal Hassan friendship at a felicitation event in a Satellite television evoked Goosebumps among millions. Amen!

The Singer and The musician

For decades SPB ruled the roost in singing and not far away was Gangai Amaran the musician cum writer/director. Both of them had a bond that exists till date and the sons too have inherited the friendship from their Dads. Both being celebs in their own way, yet the fun was never limited. Gangai Amaran was the only one around SPB who was allowed to call the singer by his pet name .

Nagaraja Chozhan and Mani

The movie Amaithipadai and its sequel was a show of irony, sarcasm and more importantly a treat to watch Sathyaraj and Manivannan’s antics, but the twosome were alike in real life too. Manivanan was instrumental in paving the success way to Sathyaraj through various hits and Sathyaraj has said once too many that Mani is his Philosopher, friend, guide.

Harris Jeyaraj – Gautam Menon

Their debut was a dream come true, the movie and its music a soul blending cocktail and until recently there were rumors about some misunderstanding between the two. However the air was cleared and even quite recently Harris has spoken highly in regard to Gautam, so once a friend always a friend indeed.

Kushboo and Brinda

A choreographer who dazzles through all India also seems to have kindled the bond with one of Tamil Cinema’s finest actress of all time. Two good pals, who still come hang out together and can be seen in TV shows.

Venkat Prabhu and SPB Charan

As Fathers, as sons! Whatever crackling friendship that existed between their dads’s which made them bond until now, has been passed on to their sons. From Chennai 600028 movie and even before that these two have always remained the best friends.

Aarya and Vishnuvardan

One of the best buddies in Kollywood, together have given some super-duper movies and the kind of relationship they have is even more local than “Vada Poda, Machcha“.

Sasikumar and Samuthrakani

Both of them revolutionary visionaries in Tamil Cinema, and their friendship dates back to being associate director days and still is afresh. They complement each other by directing and acting the other, the trust is impeccable and so is their friendship.

The trios started their journey from Ethir neechal and have christened themselves “Local Boyz“. Each one is very outspoken about each other and when they join, its fun galore!

Ergo, the future of Tamil Cinema is in safe hands and there are infinite pals in Kollywood, do share them friends, until then a Warm and freaky friendship day wishes to everyone.
