Vishwaroopam Banned not only in Tamilnadu!

While Kamal Hassan’s magnum opus Vishwaroopam released to packed houses in some countries like Malaysia and western parts of the world, it is sad that the film has been banned in its homeland.

Unfortunately, it has not been banned in Tamil Nadu alone as the neighboring state Pondicherry has also banned it from screening for the next 15 days.

There were huge expectations that Vishwaroopam would hit the marquee in Hyderabad and Bengaluru but this did not happen according to reports coming from those cities.

Further, the film is not being screened in our neighboring country Sri Lanka as well where there is a sizable amount of Tamil-speaking population.

It may be recalled that the Madras High Court has stayed Vishwaroopam from hitting the screens until Monday, January 28th, 2013 as the Judge would be at the special screening on January 26th to make sure that the film will not create law and order problems.

An emotional Kamal Haasan today said that he had pledged all his property to make Vishwaroopam (the trilingual movie), estimated to have cost around Rs 100 crore.
Addressing mediapersons here, Kamal said that he might lose his house because of the losses incurred by the delay in the release of the movie.

Upset over the hurdles caused by the ban on the release of his movie, Kamal Haasan, said, ‘I have pledged all that I have and if the film doesn’t release, I will end up suffering a huge loss. Even if I become shelterless, I know there are people who will help me’

‘I am fed up. I am an artiste. After that, I will have to seek a secular State for my stay… Secular State from Kashmir to Kerala, excluding Tamilnadu,’ he said.
‘I will learn in another couple of days whether I will be able to find a secular State in India or not. I will find, hopefully, another country which is secular that might take me in,’ Kamal Haasan said.

‘My father believed in humanity above all faith and had taught me not to hurt anyone’s sentiments. I don’t follow any religion, for I too believe in humanity. But I will certainly not let anyone take me for granted,’ added the veteran.
