Humour always sells. In the past few months, over half-a-dozen films that belong to light-hearted comedy genre have managed to rake in the moolah at the box office.

Joining the list is ‘Naduvula Konjam Pakkathai Kanom’ (NKPK). Directed by debutant filmmaker Balaji Tharanitharan, the film is apparently based on a real-life incident.

It is about a young man who forgets a few days of his life, even as he is about to get married. According to the director, the story is inspired from the life of his cinematographer Premkumar.

With a handful of characters, the director has managed to weave a hilarious entertainer with no lag in the script anywhere.

Vijay Sethupathy of ‘Pizza’ fame plays the lead role with ’18 Vayasu’ fame Gayathri as his ladylove. The rest are all new faces and they manage to strike a chord with the characters that they portray.

Kudos to Balaji Tharanitharan as he has extracted the best from the team. Rajkumar, Vigneswaran and Bhagawathy Perumal play the hero’s friends.

The movie boasts of a strong technical team that comprises of camera work by Premkumar and music by Ved Shankar, an alumni of Rahman‘s KM Conservatory School of Music.

With Vijay Sethupathy shouldering the major burden and thanks to the hilarious dialogues by Balaji, the movie ends up a laughathon, that deserves a must watch.

Prem (Vijay Sethupathy) is all set to get married to his lover Dhanalakshmi (Gayathri). A day before his wedding, Prem decides to try his hand at playing cricket with his friends (Rajkumar, Vigneswaran and Bhagawathy Perumal).

The game gets little serious and Prem in a bid to catch a ball falls down only to get injured in his head. He quickly gets back on his toes as the injury is no serious.

But soon after the match, the friends are in for a shock. Prem forgets a few days of his life and develops short term memory loss wherein, he remembers his life till college and recognises his friends, but clueless about his marriage.

Fearing troubles, the friends take him to a doctor, who says that he will recover anytime. So the friends plan to keep him in their company, enact all drama till he ties the wedding knot, with a hope that he would get back his memory.

The sequence of events wherein the friends try hide Prem’s problem to his parents, lover and take him to wedding hall, convince him to marry Dhanalakshmi, bring the roof down with laughter.

No doubt Vijay Sethupathy is the real scene stealer. The young actor who played a youth terrorised by ghosts in ‘Pizza’ takes to a hilarious turn in ‘NKPK’.

His blank expressions and efforts to identify his friends are hilarious. Rajkumar, Vigneswaran and Bhagawathy Perumal are tailor-made for their roles.

Gayathri has little to do in the film, which is more about a group of friends and their efforts to achieve their mission.

Premkumar’s camera is the movie’s backbone. It captures well each and every moment of a youth, who loses his memory till his wedding. The night life of the city and the hospitals are also well canned.

Ved Shankar’s background score is good, keeping pace with the script. Govindaraj’s editing deserves a special mention.

At a time when mindless masalas are the order of the day, a movie like ‘NKPK’ provides a whiff of fresh air. The movie is simple, straightforward and hilarious. Three cheers to the whole team for making a clean and a good entertainer

  2. Vijay says

Naduvula Konjam Pakkatha Kaanom is expected to be a complete laugh riot with a lot of youngsters. Vijay Sethupathi after ‘Pizza’ and Sundarapandian’s success plays the lead role. The movie is inspired from the real life incident of the film’s cinematographer Prem Kumar. The movie was initially slated for release on September 21 along with two other movies. But, it pulled off at the last moment after getting positive reviews at press shows to get better screens and wider reach.

The trailers are already very popular and has increased the expectations. Now, the movie’s running length is reduced by 25 minutes to make it tauter. The movie is directed by debutant Director Balaji Tharaneetharan and music is scored by Ved Shanker.

High on entertainment quotient and youngsters might embrace the movie.

Trade Talk : Will Vijay Sethupathi get an opening after Pizza? Following Pizza’s success and positive buzz, the number of prints have been doubled.

  3. Raghu says

Debutant director Balaji Tharanitharan’s comic caper Naduvula Konjam Pakkatha Kaanom (NKPK) has finally seen the light. The film’s release has recently been pushed earlier due to lack of theatres. The film is apparently an on screen adaptation of a real-life incident. Interestingly the film is inspired from a chapter in the life of cinematographer Premkumar (of Pasanga fame). What will happen when a person suddenly realises that few days of his own life is missing, that too just few days before his marriage; this forms the basic crux of the film. Naduvula Konjam Pakkatha Kaanom has Vijay Sethupathy and Bhavathi in lead roles. Music is composed by Ved Shankar and the movie has been produced by V.S. Rajkumar for Leo Vision and J.S.K. Film Corporation.

After lots of fight and struggle, Prem’s (Vijay Sethupathy) marriage with his lady love Dhanalakshmi (Gayathri) gets finalised. A day before his wedding Prem decides to play cricket with his friends (Rajkumar, Vigneswaran and Bhagawathy Perumal). The game goes serious and Prem hurts his head when he tries to catch the ball. Shockingly, Prem forgets few months in his life including his lady love Dhanalakshmi. His friends take him to the hospital but nothing works. So what will happen now? Will Prem marry his lady love? Watch out for Naduvula Konjam Pakkatha Kaanom…

Director Balaji Tharanitharan’s has surely delivered a comedy entertainer right in his debut flick. The series of events where Prem’s friends tries to hide his problem from his parents and lover is a treat. After a long time, here we have a complete comedy entertainer with the real Chennai flavour. Vijay Sethupathy is the show stealer, he blank expressions and comic timings are top class. Rajkumar, Vigneswaran and Bhagawathy Perumal are perfect and sets the screen on laugh-riot. Gayathri has very limited role in NKPK.Premkumar’s camera works are youthful and realistic. Ved Shankar’s music is good and Govindaraj’s editing works are sleek but the the film can be trimmed further to get that perfect touch.

    A comedy-riot! Perfect weekend plan!
