While down home tensions are still riding high over the release of ‘Vishwaroopam‘, on international shores the much-anticipated Kamal Hassan movie is enjoying good shows.
The Tamil version of ‘Vishwaroopam‘ which released in USA is garnering impressive response. Reportedly, the film grossed $180k (Non-reported gross will be another $30k) on just FRI for USA (Canada not included which might be another $50k more). Most of the night shows on Friday were sold out in all major locations irrespective of the bad weather in some locations. On the other hand, the Telugu version is running with decent collections as well.
What’s more interesting is that there were additional shows added in most of the locations over the weekends – that is Jan 26th, Sat and Jan 27th, Sun.
Besides the Ulaganayagan, the film stars Pooja Kumar, Rahul Bose and Andrea Jeremiah.
For the records, the ban on ‘Vishwaroopam‘ is applicable only to Tamil Nadu, while the film has already hit the screens, all over USA and Canada.
Pronouncement for ‘Vishwaroopam’ on Jan 29
Kamal Hassan has been facing various problems regarding his ‘Vishwaroopam‘. The film earlier had hard times for its DTH premiere which was opposed y the theater owners. The problem was later resolved the film that was scheduled to be released on the 25th of January.
But now, the release has again been postponed due to the content it seemed it was reported to have which insulted the Muslims. Paeople do wonder about this decision made even without having watched the movie. The judgement for this case was to be declared today. But it has been postponed to tomorrow.
The court has also stated that Kamal Hassan should meet the Government of Tamil Nadu regarding this case and should finalise things. we hope ‘Vishwaroopam‘ smells air of peace sometime!
