It was a nostalgic journey for AR Rahman when he was felicitated at the Sixth Annual Global Indian Music Awards (GIMA) in Mumbai recently.
Veteran Yash Chopra honoured the Mozart of Madras at the event, in the presence of prominent singers like Alka Yagnik, Hariharan, Udit Narayan, Naresh Iyer, Mohit Chauhan, Chitra, Sonu Niigaam.
Also, songs from AR Rahman’s chart buster movies were played on stage.
Speaking on the occasion, AR Rahman said he was truly touched. ‘I had a hint about the tribute but I did not realise that it will create such huge nostalgia. My thanks to GIMA.’
Mozart says its the end
Jab Tak Hai Jaan – titled Hindi movie directed by Yash Chopra featuring Shahrukh Khan, Katrina Kaif and Anushka Sharma in the lead has already created a vibe in YouTube with a single audio teaser. This single number ‘Challa’ features Shahrukh Khan playing a guitar and singing to its tune has created a frenzy online within few hours. Apart all this, the main credit for this actually goes to our AR Rahman, who has composed for this film.
The Mozart has been teamed up with Yash Chopra for the first time, says that his filmy career is now complete as he has given music for this brilliant filmmaker. Actually, ARR invited Yash to one of his concerts in London. Post this, he approached him and offered his Shahrukh Khan flick.
ARR has never worked with him earlier and now he feels that ” It was so kind of Yash to call and give this offer. I feel honored. Now career wise, everything is complete. It was a great experience and he (Yash Chopra) seemed happy and I hope people also feel the same”. The golden globe award winner has been roped in for a show in TV. He would be coming up in one of the episodes and he would be singing a song of someone else’s composition.
