The ‘on-line harassment’ case involving playback singer Chinmayi threatens to acquire ‘casteist’ colours which won’t be good news for the singer.
Puratchiyalar Annal Ambedkar Awareness Forum (PAAAF), an organization working for the welfare of the downtrodden community, has filed a complaint with the city police commission asking him to file a case of ‘casteist atrocity’ against Chinmayi.
PAAAF has said that Chinmayi deserved to be booked under ‘Prevention of Atrocities Act’ as she has been spreading casteist philosophies over the Internet. Chinmayi has reportedly expressed her opinions over various issues on Twitter and Facebook and her blog site. One of the topics covered by her included the volatile issue of reservation, which forms the very existence of many political parties in the State/country.
These comments have offered a common platform for many social activists and social welfare organizations which have come together to oppose Chinmayi.
In a recent article, popular author Manushyaputhiran has said, “I’m ready to take to streets to raise my voice in support of Chinmayi for the harassment case she has filed. However, before that, she would have to formally seek apology with Tamils and Dalits for her comments on their eating habits.”

Neelamegam of PAAAF visited the city police commissioner’s office along with advocate Rajini and asked him to file a case of atrocity against Chinmayi for her ‘disparaging’ remarks against Muslims and those belonging to the SC community. This has given a dangerous twist to the case Chinmayi had earlier filed with the police seeking redressal of the on-line harassment she was facing from a few individuals.
This has also given raise to apprehensions that Chinmayi might even face arrest.

Ram calls Chinmayi’s allegations baseless

Ram who is a comic writer currently based in Los Angeles has issued a statement in the press against Chinmayi - an entrepreneur and playback singer. He has asked her to remove the case she had filed against him so as not to want him to charge her with a defamation case.
Chinmayi had been the subject of ridicule for her Twitter blogs to which she hurled ‘expletives’ at those who criticized her. He being a comic writer has made many spoofs on well-known personalities. He was criticized by her mother and her for no reason, though he had nothing to do with her. His intentions were totally misunderstood by her, which made her include his name in the police complaint.
To this he issued a statement – “Unless she withdraws my name in her complaint, she might have to face defamation case for which I shall soon be initiating action”.
Chinmayi has listed six twitter handles who she has accused of threatening to kill and assault her.
Based on this under Information Technology Act 2005 and Prevention of Women Harassment Act, government employee A Radhamanalan who works at Tiruppur Collectorate and Saravana Kumar Perumal who is a Professor at National Institute of Fashion Technology, have been detained.
