Veteran singer Asha Bhosle is celebrating her 79th birthday today, September 8th, 2012. Born in Bombay Presidency in 1933, Asha Bhosle began her singing career at the age of 10 by rendering the song Chala Chala Nav Bal.
Asha Bhosle’s elder sister Lata Mageshkar is also a noted playback singer, it may be recalled. The sisters began their career in the film industry to support their family after the untimely death of their father.
In her career spanning nearly 70 years, Asha Bhosle has sung a number of songs in various languages and won awards, honors and accolades. She is the recipient of the National Award twice apart from the FilmFares, IIFA, and other prestigious awards.
She also features in the Guinness Book of World Records for being the most recorded artiste in the world.
