UTV Motion Pictures will retain the title Thaandavam, held a court in Chennai. Filmmaker R Shankar filed a petition at the court alleging that he had registered the title Thaandavam in 2010 and hence UTV should be banned from using the title.
He also alleged that in an agreement between him and UTV, it was decided that he could use the title R Shankar’s Thaandavam while UTV may use the title Vikram’s Thaandavam or Shiva Thaandavam.
When this case came up for hearing yesterday, UTV submitted the argument that Shankar failed to renew the title; therefore, they should be allowed to use it.
The magistrate, on hearing this contention, held that UTV has the rights for this title.
