Trade sources are rife with news that the Ajith starrer Billa 2 has fared badly in the overseas market. According to a popular industry pundit, who follows the film releases and its box office success keenly, Billa 2 flopped badly in the US and the UK, which are considered as the biggest overseas market for Tamil films.
While Billa 2 was screened in Britain and Ireland in 20 screens and in the US in the 31 screens, the total collections during the first weekend amounted only to 61.20 lakhs and 64 lakhs respectively.
In the US alone, the film has garnered about 90 lakhs during the three-week period it was screened. This is indeed a huge disappointment for the overseas distributors, states sources.
Billa 2 beats Nanban Collection
Billa 2 has wowed Malaysian audiences and has collected the highest amount for a Tamil film released in 2012 so far. It has bettered other big films like Nanban and 3.
According to an authentic box-office portal, till date, Billa 2′s collections stand at a very healthy $906,298 which is more than 5 crores in Indian rupees. Nanban collected around 4.86 crores in Malaysia.
Ajith’s opening and star power have done the trick yet again. Malaysia also continues to be a huge overseas market for Tamil films. Overall at the Malaysian box-office this year, Billa 2 stands at No.30 in the roll of honour with Hollywood blockbusters like The Avengers and The Amazing Spiderman leading the way.
