Film star-turned-politician Vijayakanth is celebrating his birthday today!

The actor was born in Madurai this day in 1952 to K. N. Alagarswami and Aandal Azhagarswami. He started his career in the film industry in the 1970s and founded the political party Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam in 2005.

Currently the Opposition Leader in the Tamil Nadu State Legislative Assembly, Vijayakanth is the MLA elected from the Rishivandhiyam constituency.

He has won several awards in his long career spanning over three decades and notable films in his career include Captain Prabhakaran, Chinna Gounder, and Pulan Visaranai among others.
