Remember her backless choli in Anurag Kashyap‘s Gangs Of Wasseypur? Well, Reema Sen, who we’ve also watched in Malamaal Weekly, Chal Chala Chal and Aakrosh, is still receiving compliments for her performance in Anurag Kashyap‘s film. “I never thought people would madly love a woman in a sari, and that her back would create such a sensation,” laughs Reema Sen, who was initially unsure about doing certain scenes in the film. “When we were shooting, I asked Anurag if it would work. He said, ‘Wait and watch, your back will create a storm.’ And that’s exactly what happened! People from all over said they loved my character. It was a role I have never done before,” reveals Sen.
But why don’t we see her in Hindi films more often? “As long as I don`t get something nice, I won’t do it. After Malamaal Weekly, it took me some time to sign my next film. Since I have the luxury of doing Southern films, I don`t feel I am sitting at home doing nothing. I know this will sound a little clichéd but I only accept films that accentuate my character, even if it means less screen time,” explains Sen.
The actress says that her role in GoW, coupled with the fact that women-centric films are doing really well, brought her many offers. “You know, I am a total commercial person, I watch commercial cinema and enjoy it. I loved Rowdy Rathore. I took up Gangs… because it was an entertaining film. I was getting so many women-centric films but I turned them down. At the end of the day, it’s entertainment that’s important. If you can entertain and tell a story or pass on a message, it’s great.”
