Trade circles say that Karthi’s Saguni, which hit the screens 5 days ago, is going strong in all the centres. The film, billed as a ‘political’ entertainer, was released simultaneously in Tamil and Telugu (in dubbed version).
The makers of the film organized press-meets yesterday in Hyderabad and Chennai to celebrate the ‘super-success’ of the film.
While the Hyderabad event was held in the morning, the Chennai event was held in the evening. Karthi and Pranitha, the lead pair, took part at both the meets. In the Chennai press-meet, thouh, along with the lead pair, Naser, Manobala, distributor Kalaipuli Sekaran and the film’s (debutant) director Shankar Dayal took part.
Posters pasted across the city hailed Karthi as the ‘New box-office king of South Indian films’.
Sekaran said “Karthi has become the next ‘big thing’ at the box-office as Saguni has opened to record collections which has warmed the hearts of distributors and theatre-owners. By the success of this film, he has established himself as a ‘mass hero’ which is a significant achievement.”
Karthi said “The feedback I have got says that the film has met with huge success. The talk among fans and others is that the film is a ‘jolly entertainer’.
Santhanam and I have played ‘Rajni’ and ‘Kamal’ in the film. Using the legends’ names as the characters in the film appears to have become a big hit with the masses. The collections are more than okay as the film is released in a large number of halls.”
