SJ Surya begins with explaining the six-year gap in Kollywood. The director-turned-actor elaborates that his acting career and delay in Telugu projects were the main reason for not directing Tamil films. But this gap was somehow filled by the cameo appearance in Nanban, feels SJ Surya.
The director reveals that his recently-announced Isai must have commenced son after Anbe Aaruyire but the Sabbatical was inevitable. He also consoles himself by saying that it happens to most artistes and he is not an exception.
Isai is about a young music director touching the pinnacle with his music but he encounters a lot of problems from another musician very jealous of his status. The problems that ensue due to this envy and how it affects the young music director are a part of the story that is mixed with emotions and love, SJ Surya said. He added that the second half will be thrilling with ‘certain elements’ that his fans would look for in his films.
A confident SJ Surya, while saying that Isai will be a turning point in his career, also hoped that for a man expecting gold, it will be diamonds showering on him. The director-turned-musician added that he will not let his fans down whatsoever.
Speaking about his heroine in Isai, SJ Surya said that Savithri is his find and he had rechristened her for the film industry just as he did with Nila for Anbe Aaruyire. Talks are on with Prakash Raj and other artistes have been finalised said SJ Surya. SJ Surya also pointed out that he will be scoring the music for the first time for Isai, which will be produced by his brother Victor Raj Pandian.
When asked if no producer was coming forward to produce his film, SJ Surya said that since Isai is his dream project he did not want to make any compromises. “So my brother is financing the venture as I wanted to operate independently,” he said.
SJ Surya reveals that it was on AR Rahman’s suggestion that he decided to score the music for Isai. The director says that he initially thought that the Oscar winner suggested that he could take up the music department as well because he had no time for his project but AR Rahman made it very clear that he would not make such suggestions without any grounds. Following this, SJ Surya said he learnt piano and sitar and has scored six songs for Isai and has crooned a song as well.
On his future projects, SJ Surya said that he will be remaking his Telugu film Komaram Puli in Tamil and play the lead role in it. Apart from this, two more films are ready and he has plans to release them continuously for Christmas, Pongal and Diwali.
