Who’s fit for Pithamagan role?

When Bala’s Sethu was remade in Bollywood as Dhere Naam, no one predicted that the film would hit to the headlines. Further it added pep to the growing chart of Salman Khan. As the film proved to be an instant hit, its producer-director Sathish Kaushik was waiting for a right occasion. After these years of patient hatching now Sathish Kaushik has got the nod for the remake of another one from Bala.

Salman Khan Whos fit for Pithamagan role?

This time it is Pithamagan involving the same Vikram and for a change Surya with Laila in the lead roles. Sathish Kaushik said the script of Pithamagan has more scope for Bollywood audience. He expressed his idea of roping in Salman Khan for the role donned by Vikram. This is because Vikram’s physique and dialogue delivery match that of Salman Khan. For that matter Salman Khan too has expressed his desire to take up this role.

Remember, Vikram fetched the national award through this Pithamagan. Not enough, Vikram has been perturbing Bala for a similar character at the earliest. Sathish Kaushik holds the remake rights for Pithamagan and is eager to commence the project at the earliest.

  1. tere naam -worst remake of ”Sethu”!

There is a trend of remaking films from one language to other language in India. Many of the Tamil films are remade in Hindi but most of the time those films have gone unnoticed in bollywood. The main reason may because there is a lot of nativity and realism in Tamil cinema, which is very rare in bollywood. I think the actual feel and emotions of the Tamil film will go unnoticed by the intrusion of unnecessary songs with many group dancers and in foreign locales of bollywood directors who remake the film in Hindi. Lot of films with political subjects and social issues come from Tamil cinema, which is not there in Bollywood, and people there don’t like such stuff in movies. Films like Nayagan,Kadhalukku Mariyathai (Doli sajakhe rakhna), Mudhalvan(Nayak), Virasaat(Thevar Magan),Suryavamsam(Suryavamsam),Kushi(Kushi) are few to mention which were unforgettable movies in Tamil cinema which made a clean sweep when remade in Hindi. Even when a Tamil director or a technician moves to bollywood they hesitate to accept them for example Shankar (Nayak) and Maniratnam (Dilse) the greatest directors of Tamil Cinema both of them directed one Hindi movie but both could not succeed.

Coming to review of the movie “Tere naam”
It is remake of the most unforgettable and trend setting movie of Tamil cinema “Sethu” directed by Bala. “Sethu” was already remade in Telugu and Kannada. In both these languages the film was a box office Hit. But what happened to the Hindi version. I was a big flop.
    The reason behind it is
    1) Inclusion of lot of songs in first half, which was not there in the original version.

    2) The songs and the background score of the music both are horrible and irritating.

    3) Each and every scene and the dialogues is exactly remade which doesn’t fit their culture and lacks nativity.

    4) The cast, particularly, Salmankhan a worst choice for this character. He has no expressions in his face and he has given his worst performance in this movie. The scenes in which we got stunned by the extraordinary performance of ”Vikram”, and scenes where only expressions of the character speak, I could not find any expression in the face of salman. Salman has not done even 50% of what Vikram did in “Sethu”. Merely changing the hairstyle doesn’t help to look different; it is the performance that makes the impression and the difference.

    5) The direction and screenplay. I don’t remember his name but please eventhough you remake a film you have to work a lot in screenplay to make the people accept the movie, which is different from their culture or nativity.

An unforgettable movie “Sethu” has been well spoiled and badly adapted in Hindi Version.I really cried at the end not for the climax but for spoiling the movie.

  2. Salman Khan to take on Vikram’s role?

Some of Vikram’s acclaimed Tamil movies have found takers in Bollywood. His hit Sethu, written and directed by Bala, was remade in Hindi with Salman Khan as Tere Naam. Directed by Satish Kaushik, the flick went on to be a hit for Sallu bhai as well. The rights of another of Bala’s films have been bought by Satish Kaushik but nine years later!

Released in 2003, Pithamagan, which also stars Vikram, was a critically acclaimed film. So why has the director bought the rights so late? “I didn’t have too much clarity with whom the rights were till recently. I saw the movie when it released and loved it but I took a gap from remakes,” he says. He adds that he has just started working on the script and the project is still in its initial stages.

And like most directors today who are vying to cast Salman Khan, Bollywood’s hit machine, in their films, Satish also is eyeing him. But if the director had to wait for him, the wait would be unbelievably long considering Sallu doesn’t have dates! Satish says, “I haven’t approached Salman yet. I need to first finish the script first and then I may approach him for it. But I think he is perfect for Vikram’s role. I haven’t finalized any of the cast as of now.”

Ask him if he has taken any inputs from director Bala and Satish says, “Once the movie goes on the floors, I plan to invite him over. It’s always good that the film’s original director is part of the project. He’ll be able to give additional inputs.” Though he says the original script is amazing, he plans to tweak it to suit the audiences in the north.
