IPL 2012
The 2012 Indian Premier League season, abbreviated as IPL 5 or the IPL 2012, is the fifth season of the Indian Premier League, initiated by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) in 2007 with the first season played in 2008. The tournament began on 4 April and will end on 27 May 2012. This season the number of teams in the league went from ten to nine with the termination of Kochi Tuskers Kerala.
One of the biggest sporting events in Asia and in Cricket is Indian Premier League which is a Domestic Cricket event of India and it has gone bigger over the last 4 years, there is a lot of money involved in IPL T20 with lot of pride and fame which makes this tournament a great event to watch. The world biggest cricket war IPL 5 or IPL 2012 is on the last step; it would be start on Wednesday, 4 April and conclude on Sunday, 27 May 2012. It will go for 53 day and 74 matches, opening ceremony will held on Chepak Stadium, Chennai before one day on 3 April 2012. IPL 2012 is going held after Indian cricket team return back from Australia where they will play five Tests and 2 Twenty20 and a Tri-series against Australia and Sri Lanka.
This IPL 5 has revealed the brute reality that current performance is bigger that past glory.
Sourav Ganguly
He is the biggest icon in the Pune Warriors India line-up. However, the Dada of Indian cricket has been a big let-down this season. He has been forced to take rest after his pathetic run as a skipper and batsman. In 13 innings, he scored 261 runs, with an average of 20.07.
That Dada has an average of 20 is not too bad in itself. What really makes him the worst flop is that he has the lowest Strike Rate among all batsmen who have aggregated more than 1000 IPL runs. This is what has brought ruin to whichever team he has played for.
Manish Pandey
In IPL history he will always be remembered as the first Indian to score a century (for Royal Challengers Bangalore). However, in 2012, Pandey has been a big disappointment for his team Pune Warriors India, scoring just 143 runs (highest of 80) in 8 innings, with an average 23.83.
Michael Clarke
He was the biggest addition during IPL 2012. However, his IPL debut wasn’t too good. With his team Pune Warriors India struggling at the bottom of the league; he contributed just 72 runs in 4 innings, with an average of 18.
Marlon Samuels
This Pune Warriors India player was in news after being reported for suspect bowling action by the on-field umpires. In 8 innings, he scored just 124 runs, with an average of 17.71. He was a bit better as a bowler, taking 8 wickets in 28.4 overs, giving away 216 runs.
Richard Levi
After purchased at a mysterious amount, he was supposed to add firepower to the Mumbai Indians batting. However, in 6 innings he added just 83 runs (highest 50), at a paltry average of 13.83.
Praveen Kumar
He is a key bowler for Team India, Purchased at $ 800,000, he has failed to take wickets for his new team Kings XI Punjab. In 47 overs he gave away 324 runs, taking just 5 wickets, with an economy of 6.89.
Paul Valthaty
In 2011, he was dubbed as the next big thing in Indian cricket by his home team Kings XI Punjab, when he scored 120* (63 balls) against Chennai Super Kings. However, this season, in 5 innings he scored just 28 runs, at an average of 5.6.
Ross Taylor
His expensive transfer from the Rajasthan Royals didn’t do any justice to Delhi Daredevils. He was supposed to add firepower in the Delhi line-up, but, in 8 innings he added just 107 runs, at an average of 17.83.
Kumar Sangakkara
At $700,000, he was touted as the biggest star in the Deccan Chargers line-up. However, in 10 innings he scored just 184 runs just one score of 82), with an average of 20.44. Despite taking 6 catches, he was rarely seen behind the stumps.
Yusuf Pathan
Paid $2.1 million by the Kolkata Knight Riders, Pathan has been the biggest disappointment of this season. In 10 innings, the aggressive all-rounder has scored just 66 runs with an average 8.25. His bowling has also disappointed everyone, with just 1 wicket, while giving away 139 runs, with an economy of 8.17.
