After restricting Delhi Daredevils to 114/5, Murali Vijay (48 not out) led a strong Chennai Super Kings batting unit to register a thumping 9-wicket victory over Delhi Daredevils in a crucial Indian Premier League match at the MA Chidambaram stadium on Saturday.

With their victory over the table-toppers Delhi, Chennai jumped a place upward to the fourth position in the IPL table with 15 points from 14 matches. Delhi remained on top of the pile with 18 points from 13 matches.
Vijay and Suresh Raina (28 not out) make sure that there were no hiccup in the chase as they added unbeaten 40-run stand for the second wicket and achieved the modest target with 4.4 overs to spare.
Vijay smashed a six and five boundaries in his clinical 40-ball knock whereas Raina whacked two huge sixes and a four in his 20-ball whirlwind innings.
Chennai lost their only wicket in the eleventh over when Michael Hussey (38) got out after adding a 75-run opening stand with Vijay.
Irfan Pathan gave Delhi a crucial breakthrough but it was too little too late. Hussey hit a six and five boundaries in his quick 32-ball innings as he laid a solid platform for the hosts to win the match comfortably.
Hussey and Vijay helped Chennai raced to fifty in just 6.3 overs against Delhi.
Electing to bowl, pacer Ben Hilfenhaus (3-27) led a discipline Chennai attack to restrict Delhi to 114/5.
Yogesh Nagar top-score for the visitors with unbeaten 43 off 47 balls which included a six and a four in his patient knock. Irfan Pathan remained unbeaten on 13 off 17 balls.
For Chennai, Albie Morkel (1-15) and Ravichandran Ashwin (1-17) took a wicket each as they supported the red-hot Hilfenhaus perfectly.
Delhi lost Venugopal Rao (26) after he tried to revive their innings with Nagar. Ashwin dismissed Rao in the fourteenth over to break the 48-run fifth wicket partnership between Rao and Nagar. Rao hit two sixes in his quick 24-ball innings.
Sent in to bat, Delhi lost four top-order batsmen inside six overs to give upper hand to hosts Chennai.
Albie Morkel dismissed Mahela Jayawardene (8) in the sixth over to reduce Delhi to 24/4 in 5.2 overs.
Delhi lost Jayawardene soon after Naman Ojha (3) became the third victim of Chennai pacer Ben Hilfenhaus three balls earlier.
Table-toppers Delhi started their innings on the wrong foot as they lost David Warner (8) and skipper Virender Sehwag (4) inside three overs.
Hilfenhaus continue his good outing in the league as he dismissed Warner in his second over to reduce Delhi to 12/2 in 2.1 overs. Warner hit a four in his short 9 balls stay but he failed to carry on with his century-making form in the last game against Deccan Chargers.
The Aussie pacer Hilfenhaus gave hosts Chennai a perfect start when he got better of Sehwag in the very first over of the match.
Earlier, Chennai skipper MS Dhoni won the toss and decided to field against Delhi.
Chennai bring in spinner Shadab Jakati in the playing eleven replacing pacer Yo Mahesh.
Delhi made two changes in the team as Roelf van der Merwe replaced Andre Russell and Umesh Yadav returned in the place of Shahbaz Nadeem.

1st Inning Highlights: IPL 2012 – CSK vs DD, Match 59
2nd Inning Highlights: IPL 2012 – CSK vs DD, Match 59

DD have no one to support in Middle order now. If they loose top order batsman, they can easily out of the game despite having one of the best fast bowling attack. and that’s what happened today.
If at all KKR fixed match with Mumbai to eliminate CSK, then the same KKR will suffer most, because CSK will win next match from KKR and KKR will be in trouble because next match will be must wining match against Mumbai. so KKR 19 difficultly, RCB 21 with all wins, MI may have 18, Delhi 18, CSK 19, KXIP 18, RR also 18. So tournament will be very intresting from now.
Welcome Chennai..for the Third Time Title…Champions of IPL – CHENNAI
Unbelievable! Delhi restricted to 114! With such a batting line up, and against such bowlers! On suchaa track! Seems Srini dialed some numbers…DD happy to oblige as they are still comfortably placed. Dark, dirty, delusion is this IPL.
Righly said, These Delhi guys, they dont understand still that , they were thrashed by the reigning champions… not by any low placed xyz team… Poor Guys… Mark my words …. The days are not far when chennai will become the capital INDIA if not politically atleast for IPL
IPL 5: RCB, CSK look to bounce back in crucial tie…
Royal Challengers Bangalore face the rather intimidating task of upstaging Chennai Super Kings in their backyard, when the two teams go head-to-head in match 13 of IPL 5, at the MA Chidambaram stadium on Thursday. After beating Delhi Daredevils in their opening match, Bangalore were dealt a bitter blow on Tuesday, when they were outplayed by Kolkata Knight Riders by 42 runs in front of a disappointed home crowd.
CSK, playing hosts in the crucial encounter against RCB, have problems of their own and like Bangalore don’t have much time to recover from their defeat against Delhi at the Feroz Shah Kotla, where they managed a measly 110 for 8 to go down by eight wickets. Having lost two of their three games Chennai find themselves in sixth place on the points table – just ahead of Bangalore – which should be enough to add a few more grey hairs on MS Dhoni, whose team have won the last two editions of the IPL.
The much-anticipated inclusion of Chris Gayle to RCB’s playing XI failed to pay dividends in the clash against KKR as the hard-hitting opening bat scored just two before falling to Jacques Kallis. An onslaught from the muscular left-hand batsman has very often been as good as a victory for Bangalore, so it will be imperative that Gayle fires in the match against Chennai as RCB look to register their second win of the tournament.
Even though Bangalore’s bowling attack has held its own thus far, it is the batting which would be a cause of concern for Daniel Vettori and his men. After being kept down to 157 for 8 against Delhi, Bangalore were restricted to 123 for 9 against Kolkata while chasing 166 for victory. They, in fact were reeling at 33 for 5 before some late order heroics by Vinay Kumar (25 off 26) took the team past the 100-run mark. In that regard, RCB may bring in Tillakaratne Dilshan to partner Gayle at the top of the innings, which would mean resting Muttiah Muralitharan. It is a very tough decision, but one that the team management will strongly consider.
If Dilshan returns at Murali’s expense, Bangalore will turn to one of their domestic bowlers and the likely candidates are spinner J Syed Mohammad or left-arm seamer Sreenath Aravind. Harshal Patel’s hammering in the previous match could also mean he is replaced. Abhimanyu Mithun may come into the fray in that regard.
While the 2011 runners-up will be looking to cash in on their opponent’s inconsistent form in the competition, Chennai would like to believe that they have the mental edge for Thursday’s game as they have had the better of Bangalore in six of their 11 fixtures, which includes the title clash in last year’s IPL, on the very ground that the two sides will gear up for yet another battle.
Probable XIs:
Chennai Super Kings: 1 Faf du Plessis, 1 Srikkanth Anirudha/Murali Vijay, 3 Suresh Raina, 4 S Badrinath, 5 Ravindra Jadeja, 6 Dwayne Bravo, 7 MS Dhoni (capt/wk), 8 Albie Morkel, 9 R Ashwin, 10 Shadab Jakati, 11 Doug Bollinger
Royal Challengers Bangalore: 1 Chris Gayle, 2 Tillakaratne Dilshan, 3 Virat Kohli, 4 Saurabh Tiwary, 5 AB de Villiers (wk), 6, Mayank Agarwal, 7 Daniel Vettori (capt), 8 R Vinay Kumar, 9 Harshal Patel/Abhimanyu Mithun, 10 Zaheer Khan, 11 Sreenath Aravind/J Syed Mohammad
IPL ENTERS EXCITING HOME STRETCH BITTER FIGHTS!
After nearly month and a half the IPL-5 enters the home stretch with prospects of exciting close finishes and bitter fight among top teams for a place in the play-offs. While two teams in the rear are out of the competition for sure two right in front, DD and KKR expect to make it comfortably for the POs with the remaining five teams fighting it out for the 3rd and 4th places. The way CSK crushed DD raises hopes for them but only just because RCB with one game extra to play appear to be in better place to make it to the last four along with MI. On the other hand going by the Saturday’s two games neither DD nor KKR who have been run away leaders so far can be termed favorites to win the title. Both CSK and MI are seen to be peaking at the right time and look formidable..While Dhoni’s batters appear to be getting back their touch over and above Hilfanhaus strengthening their bowling, for MI Rohit Sharma;s ‘classic’ knock puts MI as one of the Top contenders.RCB also looks to be on a terrific resurgence with their bowling suddenly looking quite good! So, play offs and winning the Final are going to be tough for either DD or KKR with likes of CSK,MI or RCB coming in the reckoning. However the two top teams better chance in case smaller sides like RR or KXIP advance although the last two will have to play out of their skin to win all their remaining matches. All in all we can expect next two weeks of mouth watering T20 matches.
Both DD & KKR losing like sheeps in today’s matches.
Its going to be MI vs CSK final guys, all other RCB, RR, PKXI can rest off as botj DD & KKR are gonna choke in playoffs.
Can Chennai upstage KKR at home?
Their winning streak halted, Kolkata Knight Riders would feel the Chennai heat at home on Monday especially after the defending champions put their campaign back on track with two successive wins in the Indian Premier League in Kolkata.
Known for their last minute scrambles, the Chennai Super Kings need to win their remaining two matches to assure themselves of a berth in the last-four and their captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni has a reputation of coming up with the best in pressure cooker situations.
On the other hand, a win for the Knight Riders would hand them the pole position and a guaranteed place in the play-offs.
Chennai’s nine-wicket thrashing of leaders Delhi Daredevils last night could not have come at a better time, as the Knight Riders were given a wake-up call by a Rohit Sharma-inspired Mumbai Indians in the afternoon match of the same day.
After their humiliating 27-run loss at home, the Knight Riders would find themselves down while the Super Kings would look to avenge their five-wicket defeat in the first leg of the tournament.
It was a ruthless performance by the Super Kings on Saturday night as they did not allow the leaders to fight back right from the beginning when Australian quick Ben Hilfenhaus castled Virender Sehwag in the opening over.
For Hilfenhaus, it was his second man-of-the-match performance in succession and the pacer would look to cast a spell on the likes of Gautam Gambhir and Jacques Kallis.
It was not only Hilfenhuas but South African Albie Morkel was also at his best with impressive figures of 4-0-15-1 to restrict Delhi for 114 for five, a total that allowed the failing Chennai Super Kings batters to click for a win with 28 balls to spare.
The best thing to have happened for the Super Kings was Murali Vijay regaining his touch. With 134 runs from his previous nine games, the pressure was on Vijay to reproduce his old form and the right-hander did just that, shepherding the chase with 48 not out from 40 balls (5×4, 1×6).
Woefully out of form, left-handed Suresh Raina too seemed to have found his touch with 20-ball 28 not out, laced with two sixes and one four.
Super Kings would hope that skipper Dhoni comes to his own as he is going through a poor run this season with 235 runs from 12 innings. The more alarming stat is that he has only four sixes this season, compared to 59 in his IPL career.
An interesting battle would be on the cards when Dhoni takes on Sunil Narine to unravel his mystery spin as the Knight Riders would hope that their bowling after the last evening’s slip up bounce back and restrict the Chennai batsmen on the tailor-made slow Eden track.
For a team that had been among the most consistent in this IPL, Knight Riders’ bowling was not at their best on Saturday with a generous dose of short-pitched deliveries combined with the width that helped Mumbai duo of Rohit Sharma and Herschelle Gibbs settle down quickly.
It would be interesting to see whether the think-tank retains the seamers line-up of Lee, Kallis and Rajat Bhatia or brings in veteran medium pacer Laxmipathy Balaji. As far as the batting is concerned, the over-reliance on Gautam Gambhir was exposed on Saturday. The left-handed skipper, who has five fifties in his previous nine games including three man-of-the-match performances, fell for a rare duck in the opening over as the Knight Riders did not show any hunger for the 183-run chase.
