01 Song: Gangster…

Singers: Yuvan Shankar Raja and Stefny

Lyricist: NA. Muthukumar

Rating: 4/5

Music lovers are familiar to this Gangster song through the teaser and are addicted to the lyrics that track starts with the lines ‘Gang gang gangster’. Yuvan Shankar Raja has renderd legendary theme that is high with its hip-hop form and best techno touches. The changeover in the vocals of Stefny was an apt choose.

02 Song: Idhayam…

Singers: Shweta Pandit

Lyricist: NA. Muthukumar

Rating: 3.5/5

Idhayam is a melody song that has mellifluous piano notes, which has catchy lyrics written by Na. Muthukumar and this leisurely paced track is peppy in the mesmerizing voice of Shwetha Pandit. The song might be pictured on one of the female leads in the film Billa 2 that has tasteful usage of instruments like Flute, Drums and Veena along with the chorus, which has lifted up the song to next level.

03 Song: Yedho Mayakkam…

Singers: Yuvan Shankar Raja, Tanvi Shah and Suvi Suresh

Lyricist: NA. Muthukumar

Rating: 3.5/5

Yedho Mayakkam track is a party number that goes with the lyrics ‘Dance, dance, dance with me’ to make dance floors go on fire with Ajith’s foot tapping. The song shows the best choices of singers made by Yuvan Shankar Raja. Vocals of Tanvi Shah and Suvi Suresh are the highlights of the song. Yedho Mayakkam is expected to be top pick of the album, which also has native nadaswaram touches in the start.

04 Song: Madurai Ponnu…

Singers: Andrea Jeremiah

Lyricist: NA. Muthukumar

Rating: 4/5

Madurai Ponnu is an item number with Arabic shades of genre crooned by a popular face Andrea Jermiah. The song has stolen the hearts of music lovers, after watching it in the songs teaser that was released recently.
Brazilian model Gabriela Bertante might be seen shaking legs with Thala in this special number. Yuvan Shankar Raja is very familiar to this type of genre that can be observed in his earlier compositions like Theepidika and also in the BG of Mankatha.

05 Song: Unakkulle Mirugam…

Singers: Ranjith

Lyricist: NA. Muthukumar

Rating: 2.5/5

Yuvan Shankar Raja has made best use of drums in this track and Ranjith has tried well to give his best to show the seriousness of the situation. Unakkulle Mirugam appears to be a situational song featuring Thala. The track showcases the evil that resides in every human being and all the philosophies of a common man, David Billa. The drum beats has added genuineness to the song.

06 Song: Theme Music

Singers: Yuvan Shankar Raja

Rating: 3/5

Yuvan Shankar Raja, who has composed and crooned the theme song, has completely tried to portray the image of Ajith in Billa 2 among the viewers. The first teaser trailer has depicted this theme music well.

Ajith - Chakri Toleti’s Billa 2 music album is like a monster, so fresh and refreshing. Yuvan Shankar Raja has given one more rocking youthful album Billa 2, which has hyped the pre-release expectations that are already on high. Go with it for a new feel.

  1. Senthil, Trichy says:

Billa 2 Music – It delivers not just for director but also fans:

When I listened to the teasers of the songs, I felt that Billa 2 might not live up to the soundtrack of its predecessor. But after two hours of listening to the tracks over and over again, I should say that it has delivered quite well. Yuvan has done increasingly well and it is evident that the director has requested tracks to be the way they were. Also what’s interesting is the fact that this album is really short – just around 23 minutes to be precise. All the tracks are around the 4 minute mark and they are reasonably slow-paced despite having a lot of techno to them. Let us take a closer look to see how unique Billa 2 really is…

Gangster – Yuvan Shankar Raja and Stefny

This song was released as a teaser a while back. We have seen Yuvan set his flag on some of the hit numbers in his albums. This is one such number but may not live up to the other ones. Putting on the techno/trance (or is it hip-hop) shoes, Yuvan has come out with a number that is full of praise to Billa. While fans will love lines such as “Donukellam don indha Billa dhan”, the song has few Tamil lyrics. They almost make Billa look like a super-hero only this one is called a “monster” throughout the track. It is weird, yet has some very likeable grooves in this one. It could have been much better if it didn’t sound like the old Billa theme.

    Idhayam – Swetha Pandit

Having heard songs like “En Nanbane” from Mankatha and “Engeyo Paartha Mayakkam” from YDM, I see that ‘Idhayam’ is nothing new to Yuvan. With the addition of some very welcome classical touches and some help from the tabla, this one has all the makings of a wonderful melody. The harp-like notes playing in the background throughout the song make it sound dreamy, and the veena and flute pieces before each charanam shows signs of depth in Yuvan’s music that are not usually of this kind. Swetha Pandit, another Hindi singer after the likes of Bela Shende and Javed Ali, does well. Na Muthukumar’s lyrics add value to the softness and the melody of the track.

Yedho Mayakkam – Tanvi Shah, Yuvan Shankar Raja and Suvi Suresh

This is one track that you will start liking as soon as you hear it. It starts off with what appears to be a digitalized shehnai / nadhashwara pieces (backed with guitar chords) and sets into the club mix with the flanges and phase shifts. A typical dance number, it has enough beats and is slow enough until the very end. ‘Yedho Mayakkam’ is likely to be on top of music charts the next few months. Tanvi Shah is perhaps the best choice for the song and she does justice for her selection. Her voice sets in very well with the music and along with the rapping and special effects put in by Yuvan, who also does some occasional rapping himself, gives the song a very futuristic yet down-to-earth sound. The charanams also bring in some melody making it kinda complete and difficult to review. Simply put, it draws a bridge between ‘Evandi unna pethan’ and ‘Cheeky cheeky’ from Saroja.

    Madura Ponnu – Andrea Jeremiah

In today’s world of Tamil cinema, item numbers are the most boring songs in a soundtrack. But this one, as likely to turn out as an item song, is quite different. Yuvan is again right at the middle of everything and is creating some very interesting music. The instrumental piece right after the first stanza is one of the best parts of the song, maybe the album too. If you take a look at the chorus at the end followed by some jazz-like music, you would realize that this is much more than a folk song. The Andrea here is not the same we heard in ‘Idhu Varai’. Her voice is not as deep and she is very soft and timid with the phrases, which make the theme of the song natural. The lyrics are quite obvious, typical come-spend-the-night-with-me-and-learn-everything types but it would have been hard writing them when imposed on the beats of the song. A great job overall.

    Unakkulle Mirugam – Ranjith

A track for the “Thala” fans, Unakkulle Mirugam is a rock song, more or less. If you were wondering why the album has gone a bit soft with the tracks, this one will indeed remind you that you are actually listening to ‘Billa 2′. The electric guitar is for you to hear until the end, with chords, in the old Billa piece in the interludes and also giving backup to Ranjith. Remember those songs in Rajinikanth movies where in the span of 5 minutes he becomes rich and successful. Unakkulle Mirugam has potential to be such a song, and chances are Ajith will be the super-villain at its end.

    Billa 2 Theme – Instrumental

After seeing so much success with the original Billa theme, it’s not a surprise to see that Yuvan and the rest of the members have decided to stick with the success formula. The theme has become a trademark of Billa and it is hard not to imagine walking with the coat while it’s being played. If you are thinking it’s exactly the same thing, you are wrong. Yuvan has put in effort to make the build-up of the track unique and you can see a full string section performing in the first 40 seconds. The familiar tunes are seen only in the latter half of the track and this time, it has more prominent and audible beats backing it. The final part of the song also has variations too. You might not realize it now, but on screen, this theme is gonna rock just like before.

This may not turn out as Yuvan’s best album, or it may not be liked by some of the fans. But, the fact is that Billa 2 is a very good album. It will be enjoyed by a lot of people. The tracks are unique and represent a class of music that may not have been used as much by others as Yuvan in the modern era. He has removed the lines between the genres and has possibly experimented a lot after discussions with the director. It is not exactly the best music to hear for an average person, but it does well in representing the dark and enigmatic personality of Billa and the movie itself. I am sure we will see how apt it will fit the director’s bill when the film is released. Listen to the album over and over again and you will see how it grows on you.

Rating – 4/5 – for Yuvan’s experiments and adapting many ideologies in his music

Verdict – The songs are quite great. Don’t write it off too quickly.

  2. Jasasudha says:

Hello! Senthil. What’s your point? Have you read your review back after writing? It will tell you the fact that How much confused review it is? By the way I am Ajith Fan, Ajith follower and well wisher of Ajith. I always pray God give Ajit good mindset to select impressing script that will be liked even by neutral film buffs/family peoples rather than Die hard fans only.

BIlla2 album is totally dud. Even a new music directors, debut actors, new comers film coming with catching song in the first hearing itself. Ajith is one of the mass hero like super star. So no compromise should be in the music. It must be charbuster in the first hearing itself.

I have heard more than a day. Not even a single song impressing except “Idhayam”(Average). To appreciate the Music no need to be a music knowledge person. Because, hardly 10 to 15 music directors are in Tamilnadu to understand the music depth of any album. They are not the consumer of Billa2 Audio. Common People like you and me are the consumers. So the album has to impress the common people not the musicians.

Why are you voluntarily writing this review? This itself speaks quality of songs. Very very bad album of Ajith films till date.

I watched Billa2 Video Teaser more than 50 times. Stunning BGM. Rock rock…….and Rocking BGM. Impressed me at the first visual. But the theme music which is in the album is very below average.

Fans pls don’t jump on me. I wrote the fact. Because I was one of the guy waiting and waiting for the Billa2 audio. At the end the Album is just a DUD.

Hope the film will impress everyone.

  3. @the reviewer : are u an ajith fan ….. yor review seems so… and i dont think songs of billa2 lives up when compared to mankatha or billa 2007 … also yuvan’s music was down in vettai ..may be it goes well with the film

kindly dont act like an ajith fan

  5. Palani…….. i’m impressed !!! Jayasudha if u a true ajith fan u can’t say that word….. Idhu thala area …Ulla varadhae!

  6. Ajith Fans says:

The music of IN Entertainment and Wide Angle Creations’ Billa 2 was released with relatively little fanfare on Ajith’s birthday, on May 1.

With Yuvan Shankar Raja reprising his role as music director, and Na Muthukumar providing the lyrics, here’s a listen at the album:

An ominous death knells kick off Gangster, with the refrain “Gang-gang-gangster” and, of course, it plays Billa‘s signature tune to the hilt, with Yuvan Shankar Raja and Stefny providing the vocals. The lyrics are purely functional and the rhythm reigns supreme. The second interlude, particularly, is appealing.

The first few notes begin in a shower of musical notes; Shweta Pandit provides the vocals for Idhayam, and this one is a romantic melody carrying some of the haunting notes Yuvan is most comfortable with. With a classical flavour to it, the tune seems to meander for a while, as though seeking direction. Sweet, but also oft-heard.

Yedho Mayakkam almost begins like a marriage song, but there’s a pep and feeling of happiness. Tanvi Shah’s enthusiasm is infectious. Post this, the song goes completely synthesised, with Yuvan Shankar Raja and Suvi Suresh stepping in to add to the crashing beats. A catchy number.

What begins with a Middle-Eastern theme develops a hint of folk music as well; the fusion works well, especially with Andrea Jeremiah’s voice. Madurai Ponnu, like the others, comes with a heavy dose of synthesised music, but conjures up visions of belly-dancers with startling clarity.

Ranjith’s Unakkulle Mirugam, sounds appropriately menacing, quite possibly the harbinger of a man’s metamorphosis into a fan and is filled with thundering beats. This one too, plays upon the Billa theme. The lyrics are much more powerful than in the other songs; they stress the realities of life and strike a chord within you.

The Billa 2 theme is expectedly chilling; the right hint of mystery, menace, and the shadow of doom. Yuvan Shankar Raja plays upon the Billa signature tune.

To give credit where it’s due, he has attempted to infuse freshness at certain points though you wish he had done so all the way.

Billa 2 is worth a listen.

  7. Kadhal Mannan says:

The audio of Ajith’s movie Billa 2 was released on May 1, the day which marked Ajith’s 41st birthday. Sony music has adopted a novel method in the music release through the social net working space. Now, we shall see the audio review of the movie.
     Madurai Ponnu – Andrea Jeremiah
This song has Arabic shades, which is familiar to Yuvan. He is a master of such seductive and rustic item numbers. The songs looks it would have some whirling moves on big screen. The foot tapping tavil beats seems the song would have a crowd of item dancers.

    Billa 2 theme – Yuvan
The famous theme song of Billa 2007 is made more powerful using heavy instruments. The song give a prediction that it will suit the screen presence of Ajith and his Don character David Billa. The theme has a lingering and pulsating quality, with the finishing whistles takes the song to a high level.

Yedho Mayakkam – Yuvan, Suvi Suresh and Tanvi Shah
This is a club song. It gives a good prediction of showing a dance floor setting on fire having a mischievous and eye-catching quality. The peppy efforts by Suvi Suresh and Tanvi Shah are tremendous. The nadaswaram touch to this song is admirable. It also give a guess felling how Thala will rock for this youthful song as songs like these are usually used in Yuvan-STR combo. Sure the song will remain in the top chart for a long time.

Gang Gang Gang – Stefny and Yuvan
It is the first released teaser song that received a tremendous response, immediately on its release. Its full form is terrific. The trance, techno touches and hip-hop to the song are characteristic of Yuvan. The tune resembles the famous theme music. Its lyrics suggest of heroism and it has already captured the hearts of Thala fans.

    Idhayam – Shweta Pandit
A smooth melody has the tunes mabe by tabla, veena and flute. Shweta has delivered this song very well. Hope song would show the romantic side of Ajith.

    Unakkulle Mirugam – Ranjith
This song says about the inhuman character that exist in each human being and the attitudes of David Billa. The nature of the song is hardcore and rocky.

    Comments:
The songs has already been in the peak due to its pre-release buzz. Yuvan has given another youthful album in combination with Ajith. No doubt, Billa 2 will hold the top charts, until the next rocking album release.
