Actress Priyamani, the dusky beauty, was introduced in films by veteran Bharathiraaja through the film Kangalal Kaidhu Sei many years back. Despite a pretty face, vast acting potential and a reasonably good figure, a luckless Priyamani has been out of favour with Tamil film producers and directors. This is the case despite the fact that she won her national award for ‘best actress’ for her Tamil film Paruthiveeran directed by Ameer.

Priyamani was caught between the devil and the deep-sea after the award-winning Paruthiveeran as she was offered only the same deglamourized village belle’s roles. In order to go for a change in image, she undertook some sexy roles in films like Thotta and Malaikkottai as it backfired on her. Finding no takers in Tamil, she moved to Tollywood and brought in a ‘bikini revolution’ by willing donning minimum clothing in Telugu films.
Her brief roles in Ram Gopal Verma’s Ratha Sarithiram and Mani ratnam’s Raavanan didn’t bag her any offers in Tamil films. Talking about her career, she says “For the first time in my career, I play twin roles of sisters in a Kannada film titled Charulatha. The characters are very divergent in nature and it was a real challenge for me to enact both the roles which required me displaying different body languages and diction.
“I have a Malayalm film opposite Mohanlal which is about to release. I have also signed up a couple of Hindi films including a romcom opposite Riteish Deshmukh. I haven’t got any offers from Tamil film directors and I can’t say the reason behind it. Everybody knows that I’m a talented actress and I can’t go around begging for roles in films. If some director or producer approaches me to play a meaty role, I’m ready to come to Kollywood at any time,” said Priyamani.
