‘Billa 2’ is one of the most expected movies of this season. It features Ajith, Parvathy Omanakuttan, Bruna Abdullah, Vidyut Jamwal, Prabu and many others.
This ‘Billa 2’, a sequel to Ajith’s 2007 hit ‘Billa’ is awaiting its release in June 2012. Each and everyone are coming up with new ideas for promoting their Audio and films.
In that manner, the Audio right of ‘Billa 2’ is with Sony Music. They have planned a new type of promotion. Sony Music has planned to launch a glimpse of the 4 songs from the movie, commencing from the 25th of April. They will launch this for fans across social / viral platforms, radio and so on.
Finally, the innovative audio popularization will lead to the Audio release on May 1st, on the Birthday of Ajith.
The Music is composed by Yuvan Shankar Raja. The songs are sung by Stefny, Shweta Pandit, Tanvi Shah, Suvi Suresh, Andrea Jeremiah and Ranjith.
The Head of the Sony Music South, Ashok Parwani said, “The release of the Audio and movie ‘Billa 2’ is awaited by the fans very crazily. We are presenting a new song each day. This makes Thala’s fans to expect something new on each day. We are in plans to satisfy the fans and in the process expect that all the audiences would praise our idea of this visual treat for them”

The First Look Teaser- Billa 2, Thupakki & Viswaroopam::
There may not have been any big Tamil superstar driven releases this summer.
However on May 1, teaser promos of three big star (according to alphabetic order) films – Ajith’s Billa 2 (all song teasers), Kamal Haasan’s Viswaroopam (30 second teaser) and Vijay’s Thupakki (Poster look) were released.
Two of the first looks, Billa 2 and Viswaroopam went for the advanced ‘Motion Poster Technology’ (MPT), while Thupakki opted for the traditional poster format look. MPT is also known as Digital poster.
By using Motion Poster Technology, everything looks a bit hazy and confusing for the ordinary fan. MPT has been used recently in the first look of Hollywood films like Puss in Boots, Marley and in Bollywood Aamir Khan’s Talaash etc.
A prominent Chennai based video editor and graphic designer said: “MPT has low resolution image with audio quality diminished, thus it becomes a headache for the video pirates. Copies made from this file will be of low quality and unsuitable for video pirates.”
All the looks were ‘inspired’ from Hollywood film posters. There is nothing wrong in it as majority of Indian commercial film posters are derived from Hollywood poster designs.
Here is an analysis of all the three first looks.
Billa 2
A few weeks back the one-minute teaser promo of the film when it was released on Youtube rocked. It became the most watched Tamil promo video on the net. Actually in numbers it was very close to the Bollywood Akshay Kumar mass masala Prabhu Deva directed Rowdy Rathore.
A lot was expected from the all songs teaser of Billa 2, but it looks hazy and disjointed due to MPT. Some were even confused whether there were scenes from Vishnuvardhan’s Billa ? The producers of the film should have struck to conventional video format like their 1-minute teaser promo instead of experimenting and that too using MPT for over 2-minute songs video. Conventional Sound cloud method would have been more effective and would have given Yuvan songs a major thrust.
Viswaroopam
Kamal Haasan is one of the few tech savvy producer, director and actor in Kollywood. Though he too used MPT format, he kept the teaser down to 30 seconds, which was fine to a large extent. He was able to convey his message far more and able to create the suspense around his character.
Kamal during the shoot had kept the storyline of the film under the wraps, and after watching the half-a-minute promo, audience are still not sure whether he is an “international terrorist” or a “law enforcer” (CBI or FBI officer)? It adds to the hype and suspense around the film, with title in Arab font.
Though the general public and fans would have preferred a straight 1-minute promo video, which would be far more striking and easy to gauge.
Thupakki
It was smart packaging by AR Murgadoss and Vijay. They went for a conventional and traditional poster look for the film, which seems to have worked big time with the fans of the actor.
The Santosh Sivan shot poster told the essence of the film, with all the writing in the background- Mumbai, mobile network jammed in Mumbai, grisly, beheaded, hospital secrets, vandalism, body found dead etc.
In a freeze frame the story is clear that it is set in Mumbai and Vijay plays a deadly ‘la Dirty Harry’ type cop with a different look and smoking a Cuban cigar.
