Deviating from the usual practice of selling off the distribution and theatrical release of films, director-producer Kasturi Raja has decided to sell his upcoming film 3 starring his son Dhanush and Shruti Hassan through an open auction. 3 also is the first time that his daughter-in-law and Dhanush’s wife Aishwarya would be wielding the megaphone.
The Why this Kolaveri di… song from the film has made the film one of the most-eagerly awaited film in recent times. Sung and penned by the national award winning-actor Dhanush, the song has caught up among the youth like wildfire and has been listened to and downloaded a record number of times on YouTube’s website.
The song’s immense popularity has earned Dhanush bouquets and brickbats in equal measure. While youths adore the songs, purists like Javed Akhthar are wondering as to what’s in the song which has made it sooooo famous. Boyish-looking Anirudh, a relative of Dhanush and Aishwarya, is making his debut as music director with this film which would also be released simultaneously in its Telugu and Hindi dubbed versions.
Though distributors and exhibitors are willing to shell out as many as Rs.50 crores to acquire the film’s distribution rights, Kastrui Raja, the producer of the film, has decided to put the film for up for sale at an ‘open auction’ where the cost of sale of NSC distribution circle and other distribution zones would be finalized.

Dhanush starrer 3, which marks the directorial debut of his wife Aishwarya, will hit the screens in three different languages (Tamil, Telugu and Hindi) on March 30.
Speaking to reporters in Chennai on Thursday, Dhanush’s father Kasthuriraja said, ’3 will be released in Tamil, Telugu and Hindi all over India on March 30. Oscar winning Resul Pookutty has done the sound engineering.’
Audiography by Oscar-winning Resul Pookutty and music by Anirudh are movie’s major highlights, he said, adding that Resul was moved after he watched the movie.
With Shruthi Haasan playing the leading lady, 3 is an emotional love story loaded with humour. ‘I am hopeful that the movie would click with the audience,’ Kasthuri raja added.
3 on Auction Bidding, says Kasthuri raja…
In a recent function, Dhanush’s father and director Kasthui raja called for bidding of new films to the TV rights. He suggested this to procure more gain for the producers and to avoid clutch over by any particular channel. Now as the producer of the film 3, Kasthui raja said the film will be sold on the auction bidding. He quoted that as found in the IPL bidding where the cricket players are bought on auction, he too prefers to sell the movie on auction.
He further said the film may hit the theaters by March 30 in all possibilities. Kasthuri raja hinted that the film may fetch more than Rs 50 crore as the yield for the investment. Though he could have directed the movie, he did not prefer and interrupt the efficiency of his daughter –in-law Aishwarya, he added. Already the movie has been on the high bidding for the areas comprising NSC ( North Arcot , South Arcot and Chennai).
Since the film is a bilingual release simultaneously, in Tamil and Hindi, it is expected that more exotic bidding may spring off for 3. All these are due to the impact of Kolaveri and the star dust of Dhanush, Shruti Hassan. In fact, the movie may become a hit, if released worldwide and it is to be seen whether the direction spree of Aishwarya works out well.
Superstar Rajnikanth changes Dhanush’s 3 Climax…
Superstar Rajnikanth recently watched the special screening of the upcoming film 3 starring his son-in-law Dhanush and actress Shruti Haasan in lead roles. The film marks the directorial debut of Aishwarya, eldest daughter of the superstar and Dhanush’s wife. The film has music by Anirudh, a close relative of Aishwarya and has been produced by producer-director Kashturi raja, Dhanush’s father.
The film has generated a huge buzz and excitement among Dhanush’s fans in particular and the public in general thanks to the hugely popular Why this Kolaveri di… song, penned and sung by Dhanush himself. The on-screen ‘chemistry’ between Dhanush and Shruti has also become a talking point, much like their reported ‘affair’ off-screen which did rounds in the press a month ago.
Rajini, who watched the film recently, reportedly suggested to his daughter to change the climax from a ‘tragic ending’ to a ‘happy ending’. The climax of film, which is likely to be released either towards end-March or in early-April, is now likely to be re-shot by Aishwarya as she might bring in changes in the script as ‘advised’ by Rajnikanth.
Rajnikanth appreciated Dhanush and Shruti Hassan’s performance and also had a word of praise for Aishwarya, the debutant director. Though nothing has so far been revealed to the press about the script, it has now been reported that there would be a considerable change in the film’s climax has come to light now as per Rajnikanth’s suggestion!
