Filmfare Lifetime Achievement Award given to Yash Chopra!!!
The Lifetime Achievement Award for contribution towards Hindi cinema was given to the late filmmaker Yash Chopra at the 58th Idea Filmfare Awards.
Madhuri Dixit presented the award to the late filmmaker’s wife Pamela Chopra. Madhuri worked with Yash Chopra in Dil Toh Pagal Hai which was amongst the most successful films of her career. As an emotional Pamela Chopra came on stage to accept the award, she said, “Yash ji came to Bombay with Rs 200 in his pocket, dreams and his mother’s blessings. In his 50 odd years, he achieved his dream through dedication. He was the humblest person I have known in my life. He never knew he was Yash Chopra – his greatest quality. Three things he loved were films, food and family – in the same order”.
Yash Chopra left us for the heavenly abode just weeks before the release of his last film Jab Tak Hai Jaan in 2012. The film starring Shah Rukh Khan, Katrina Kaif and Anushka Sharma turned out to be a big hit and was nominated in major categories at the 58th Idea Filmfare Awards.
Yash Chopra was an Indian filmmaker and scriptwriter who directed as many as 22 films in his career spanning more than five decades. He debuted with the film Dhool Ka Phool in 1959. His subsequent popular films include Waqt, Deewaar, Trishul, Kala Patthar and Mashaal. He was particularly famous for his handling of the romance genre and his love stories like Daag, Kabhi Kabhi, Silsila, Chandni, Lamhe, Darr, Dil Toh Pagal Hai and Veer-Zaara are immortal in Bollywood. With the sad death of this personality, it was considered as death of romance from the industry as he was the one, who taught the masses to romance and believe in ‘someone somewhere is made of us’.
The Filmfare Lifetime Achievement Award is given by the Filmfare magazine as part of its annual Filmfare Awards for Hindi films.
