The year that was 2011 is gone. Welcome 2012 with joy. On this day, lets look back at some of the movies that made it big at the box office.
Ko
Directed by K V Anand, the movie revived the career graph of Jiiva. Presented by Udhayanidhi Stalin, the action-thriller, which is about a photo journalists went on to become a huge hit. Songs by Harris Jayaraj topped the charts.
Mouna Guru
Call it a splendour. The movie directed by rookie Shanthakumar came a whioff of fresh air for Arulnidhi. Crisply written and neatly executed, the movie ended up a good show at the box office and reveived Arulndihi’s career.
Iniya played Arulnidhi’s ladylove in the movie. The movie won critical acclaims and accolades too. An upbeat Arulnidhi is all thrilled as he is flooded with offers from all quarters.
Arulnidhi has now decided to cash in on the good name. He is in no hurry to sign these offers. The actor says, ‘ I have decided to wait and watch and choose right scripts’.’The going is good for me and I want to consolidate it’
Mankatha:
The 50th film of Ajith. Produced by Dhayanidhi Alagiri and directed by Venkat Prabhu, the multistarrer also had Arjun, Trisha, Lakshmi Rai, Andrea Jeremiah, Anjali, Premgi Amaran and Vaibhav in pivotal roles. Music was by Yuvan Shankar Raja. Ajith played a negative character, which was received well by the masses.
Engeyum Eppodhum:
Engeyum Eppodhum emerged the surprise hit. With Jai, Anjali, Sharvanand and Ananya playing the lead roles, the film directed by newcomer Saravanan won the admiration of all, besides fetching good revenue. It was maiden production venture of ace filmmaker A R Murugadoss in association with Hollywood giant Fox Star Studios.
Kanchana:
A comedy-horror film directed, written and produced by Raghava Lawrence as a sequel to his previous venture Muni, the film featured himself in the lead role with Sarathkumar and Lakshmi Rai also in the cast. The film became a commercial success.
7am Arivu:
The Ghajini team was back. Actor Surya, director A R Murugadoss and music composer Harris Jeyaraj were back together Though they could not recreate the same magic on screen, 7am Arivu managed to get good opening and the movie released with maximum prints. Sruthi Hassan made her debut with the movie in Tamil.
Velayudham:
The year saw Vijay ending on a high note. His commercial outing in Velayudham, directed by Raja found gavour with the masses. The movie had a huge star cast that included Genelia and Hansika Motwani.
