Kamal Hassan is planning to restart his most ambitious project Marudhanayagam, which was halted in early 1997, due to budget issues. Now interestingly Ulaganayagan has an important role for which he wanted to rope in Superstar Rajnikanth.

Birdies say Marudhanayagam is a period film that is taken from the life of 18th century warrior Mohammed Yusuf Khan. Kamal Hassan is keen to revive this big budget movie that costs around 150 crores and he wanted to screen it in Telugu, Hindi and English alongside Tamil.
When asked about the details Kamal Hassan said, “Marudhanayagam is done with 25% of shooting and coincidentally we stopped it exactly where ten years are supposed to pass in the life of the hero.”
Kamal Hassan speaking about sharing the screen with Rajnikanth in this film said, “Yes, we have a role that is ideal for Rajnikanth in this film.” Concluding the talks Ulaganayagan said, “We have acted together in ten films in our career start, but no one has come up with a worthful script so far. It is up to me to bell the cat now.”























Rajnikanth-Kamal Hassan to return with Marudhanayagam
This comes as one big pleasant surprise to Ulaganayagan Kamal Hassan’s fans! Kamal Hassan has told a Mumbai tabloid that he will be reviving work on his pet project, ‘Marudhanayagam’, that went on floors more than a decade back!
After finishing work on ‘Viswaroopam’, Kamal Hassan will begin work on ‘Marudhanayagam’, a period drama on the life of warrior Mohammed Yusuf Khan (aka Marudhanayagam) which will release in Tamil, Hindi, Telugu and English! Marudhanayagam is an 18th century warrior. Post ‘Marudhanayagam’, Kamal Hassan will work on his bilingual ‘Amar Hai’.
This film will boast off a huge budget of Rs 150 crore and Kamal while speaking to the daily expressed, “We shot 25% of the film when we went on floors in 1997, we couldn’t continue due to budget and several other constrains. We are now keen on reviving the film and this time lapse doesn’t matter for we stopped shooting where ten years are supposed to pass by in the life of our hero, what a coincidence!”
Not just that, the film will have Superstar Rajnikanth in a cameo! “We have a role that’s ideal for him; we did ten films in the early stage of our careers. None came up with a project worthy enough for us to unite, its time for me to bell the cat”, says Kamal Hassan.
The film was launched by Queen Elizabeth II in 1997 and has been long pending in the production stage. It now looks like Indian film patrons are in for a visual extravaganza for Kamal Hassan, who is known for his daring and novice attempts, is all set to present us with his pet project… And what can excite film patrons more than the coming together of Rajnikanth – Kamal Hassan?
A Mumbai tabloid has reported that Kamal Hassan is all set to revive his long forgotten magnum opus Marudhanayagam!
He has told the newspaper that he is going to revive the movie and there is a role for his friend Rajnikanth!
Marudhanayagam was launched in 1997 with a lot of fanfare but due to various reasons was shelved after a few days of shooting.
Now Kamal talks of reviving the film with a budget of around Rs 150 crore and will be made in Tamil, Hindi, Telugu and English.
When asked whether there will be a role for Rajinikanth, Kamal is quoted as saying – “Yes there is a role that is ideal for him. We’ve done 10 films together in the beginning of our career, but none recently. No one has come up with a project worthy of us. It’s up to me to bell the cat.”
