Actor Siddharth, who is known for lover boy roles, is back with similar kind of subject with Kadhalil Sodhapuvadhu Yeppadi. The actor, who has not tasted a huge success in the recent times, has pinned his high hopes on the latest movie. Read on for the review.

Story:
Arjun (Siddhartha) is a happy-go-lucky guy. He and Parvati (Amala Paul) are studying in the same college. In no time, they fall for each other. However, some differences crop up between them and they part ways. Parvati decides to go to the US and pursue higher studies and forget her love affair. Arjun too spend most of his time with close friends in order to forget his love failure. There is another love story in the film. It is between Parvati’s parents – Aravind (Suresh) and Saru (Surekha Vani). What is their love story? How this brings about a change in the attitude of Siddharth an Parvati? This is the suspense element that should be seen on silver screen.
Performance:
The role in Love Failure is tailor made for Siddharth. He has essayed the kind of roles several times before. So, it is literally a cake walk for him. Siddharth has done full justice to his role. Amala Paul is hot and sensuous. She fits the bill perfectly. Amala Paul looks good with Siddharth and they both share a good on screen chemistry.

Positive:
- Siddharth and Amala Paul‘s chemistry
- Music
- Cinematography
Negative:
- Too many sub-plots
- Too much drama and melodrama
- Very urbane storyline
- Predictable climax
Love Failure is a film not for the regular audiences but is targeted at urban youth. The film with its liberal use of typical youth slang will work well in multiplexes. The youth, who form the backbone of all Siddharth’s films, will naturally connect with the film and also patronize the film to a large extent.

Verdict:
Siddharth’s Love Failure is yet another typical youth love story. The film has nothing new or novel to offer. The film has some good screenplay and a lot of style. Still, the style alone can never be a substitute for substance and hence the film ends up as an average film.

What does Love Failure conclude for the rest of us? That reaching a breaking point in a relationship is the best remedy for the malady of ‘love failure’. In this sense, the film is not a bit about ‘love failure’, which is definitely a misleading title. If it is not about tragedy, what is it? It is about that age-old problem of egos in a relationship, misunderstandings between a boy and a girl, break ups, patch ups, taking light-veined potshots at the girlfriends and boyfriends who are inept in a relationship and so forth. In this levity rom-com, Siddharth keeps reminding us that nobody can express love and hatred so effectively as girls. As if we don’t know.
The film begins on a fresh note with Arun (Sid), a morose-looking chap, conversing with us about how it feels to be at the receiving end of a girlfriend’s anger. The one-year old affair has come to an abrupt end; he has begun speaking with himself; the people around him are consoling him, with some of them even advising him to take to booze to forget the bruise. The world has merrily written off his love, saying that Parvathi (Amala Paul) is never going to see him again. In the first half, it is Balaji Mohan’s narration that keeps us engaged. Even as Arun is trying hard to come to terms with the break-up, his confusion won’t go; he doesn’t understand what went wrong with his love. In a scene that comes suddenly, Parvathi tells Arun that she can never be the same again with him, now that she has lost hope that he will keep her happy for the rest of life.
The film keeps the suspense alive as to why Parvathi decided to call it quits. Meanwhile, you are entertained by a host of other stories. The good news is that LF is perked up by many hilarious moments. Some of the urbane elements in this movie we have never watched in Telugu movies. Sans melodrama and heavy dose lines, the film dishes out a simple yet realistic story without making much fuss. (Of course, if your affection for your girl/boy is spiritual, LF will have no point for you.)
Who does the film talk about? This chic and smart film is a raft of slice-of-life sequences, holding mirror to the real characters around us who are somehow falling/raising in love. It is all about how men and women enter into relationships deliberately/thoughtlessly , the routine differences which crop up between them, the excitements of a love affair, the anxieties of a just-in-love guy, the disappointments of a crest-fallen one who is outrageously called ‘annayya’ by his sweetheart, the suspicions, the everyday lows of a girl-boy association and so forth.
Well, the film is not just about fun and frolic; there is a story at the heroine’s home. Her parents are the verge of a permanent break-up and Parvathi is dejected. The film juxtaposes the mature love story of Parvathi’s parents with the other youthful stories. . Unlike many other rom-coms, which tend to assume a serious character in the later part, LF refuses to be regular. The problems in hero’s story are not the result of any different cause. He is like any other guy who has his ego; his girlfriend is no less, and she can go to the extent of taking the trouble to a common friend. Watch the film to get its feel.
LF qualifies to be called a ‘small big film’. Siddharth gives a very natural performance. He looks utterly convincing as a college guy. He talks to the audience, making us become a part of his thinking. Despite having a star image, he fits the character as if it was written for him. Amala Paul was very understated. The unknown faces around Sid and Amala Paul emote very naturally. We raise a toast to yesteryear actor Suresh (Parvathi’s father), who gave a brilliant performance.
Thaman’s music has that old-worldly charm. Cinematography by Nirav Shah makes the frames look cute.
Sans all the gaudy elements of a regular romantic-comedy, LF will make you come out of the theatre with a smile on your face.
Story:
Arun (Siddarth) and Parvathi (Amala Paul) fall in love with each other. But the couple gets separated due to some circumstances and ego clashes. Arun narrates his love story and also the experiences of his friends. He comes to know that every love story is the same and realizes that misunderstandings and quarrels are common in everybody’s love. How Arun and Parvathi finally unites is the conclusion of this cute love story.
Analysis:
Love Failure is a very cute and sweet film which is told in a refreshing manner. Hero plays the narrator role in this film and that has been used to perfection by the director. There are many campus laughs and sweet nothings that have been brought on to the screen in a delightful manner.
There is a matured love track on Suresh and Surekha Vani which runs parallel to the actual story. There are also few sub plots, all about various types of love. It is a very difficult job for the director to get the screenplay right for this type of movies. Balaji Mohan excelled in this department.
There is not even single dull moment in the film. Saying so, one would have to connect with the narrative. It won’t appeal to every type of audience. It does work with the multiplex junta and college going youth. Love Failure impresses the target audience and audience who crave for masala films may not like it.
Performances:
Siddarth is terrific in this film. He hasn’t carried that melodramatic look from Bommarillu into this movie and that is a refreshing change. Amala Paul is natural. Her eyes are extremely expressive. She is a treat to watch. Suresh is fine and so is Surekha Vani. Siddarth’s friends are likeable. The pair that played Sid parents delivered decent performances. Most of the actors are newcomers and they came up with confident and natural performances
Technicalities:
Thaman’s music is good. Especially the background score is impressive. A couple of songs are good. Cinematography is wonderful. Editing is crisp. Dialogues are neat. The film is made on a budget, but there is no compromise upon the quality of the film.
Director Balaji Mohan is the find of the season. His script is superb and the way he executed it is awesome. The director didn’t bother about the so called commercial values and did justice to the script. That is the beauty of this film.
Final Word:
Love Failure should work commercially as it appeals to the target audience. It is made on a medium budget and it should recover its costs despite being restricted to certain sections of audience. If you are looking for a beautiful romantic tale, this is the film. Go, fail in love!
This one is a refreshing film and how! Love Failure focuses on the entire concept of love and deals with the complexities and eccentricities of women in particular. It does appear to be biased but the real behaviour of women is beautifully portrayed with a great deal of freshness and that freshness is the narration.
Siddharth is the fulcrum and he handles it admirably with the required amount of seriousness, a forlorn look and a confused attitude is maintained through out by him lending credibility to the story. The scenes move back and forth explaining the reason for the behaviour of the couples in love and the effort they put in to patch up or the exasperation they show when they run out of patience. A fair amount of logic is shown in certain women to show how easily they change their partners like a pair of jeans while men are shown with other limitations too like posessiveness, indifference and breaking of promises.
What works for this story is it is a reflection of thoughts and feelings of the youth and adolescents and the priorities they allot for people or things in their lives. There are songs but not the regular formula ones where the hero and heroine slip into dream locations. The title in Tamil [Kadhalil Sodhapuvadu Yeppadi] which means how to mess up in love gives out a far better meaning but going by the story love failure is a good title too as it is the term that most people use and identify with.
It is not a perfect movie but the novelty and approach makes you hang on till the end, the monologues are the highlight that voice the inner feelings that almost reads like an autobiography. Love makes the world go round, the protagonist shows how the body reacts to the first brush of romance, to the small fights, misunderstandings, the pangs in waiting for each other plus the latest contemporary tiffs like the number of people they have on Facebook whose identity they dont wish to reveal, etc.
Also senior couples Suresh and Surekha Vani play people who have once loved and married and are heading for a divorce. Their coming together looks unnatural but may be the little drama is required for the story. The director handled Amala Paul and Suresh’s relationship well, after the reconciliation by the parents when Amala reaches home to see the parents together, she doesn’t rush to her father calling him with love or hugging him..she behaves like a adult.
The rest of the cast fit in their roles well and evoked the right dose of humour. Love Failure also subtly pinpoints the weakness of women. If a woman has a sad background, an emotional void, she seeks the affection, comfort and love, attention from a third person other than her family member unconsciously.
If the man she gets is right then she is lucky otherwise, god save her. Most women give away their career at a time when they need to concentrate on their career, they think love is life but the real secret is that they are better without such inconsiderate men. This aspect and fickle minded behaviour when Amala Paul waits to click on the ‘send’ button of her acceptance letter to the university in USA is an example.
The fringe could have done away with, Amala looks like the girl next door and Siddharth is cute and naive like a boy in love. He holds the attention of the people till the very end, and ironically a title with a negative meaning has worked well this time for Siddharth who doesn’t depend on frills to sell his story.
Love Failure is a story for the youth straight from the heart and for the others a good time pass.
Arun (Siddharth) falls in love with his college-mate Parvathi (Amala Paul). Parvathi’s parents are on the verge of divorce and she confides her problems with Arun. Arun looks at the world in certain way and Parvathi keeps expecting more time and attention from Arun. And finally they break their relationship. The rest of the movie is all about how they realise that one need not be perfect and the couple ‘adjust’ themselves to become a ‘made for each-other’ pair.
Artists Performance
love failureSiddharth: Siddharth looks young and is apt for the role of college going Arun character. Siddharth’s work in this film is probably his best so far. The expressions are minute, yet perfect. Looks like his real life love failures must have taught him a lot and it all shows up in portrayal of this character. You can find fault with Siddharth in some of the scenes in films released post-Bommarillu. But his work (expressions, dialogue delivery and body language) in ‘Love Failure’ is impeccable. Director should also get the credit for such an authentic yet lovable characterization. Love Failure is a conversations-based film. Hence it’s extremely important for the narrator and male lead (both played Siddhath in this film) to get dialogues right. Siddharth does an outstanding job in dialogue delivery.
love failureOthers: Amala Paul is a good actress and she has come up with nice work. Suresh gets a nice character after a long gap and he impresses. Surekha Vani is decent as wife of Suresh. 90% of the actors are new and all of them are natural with their work. The casting of new actors added loads of freshness to the movie.
Technical departments
love failureStory – screenplay – direction: It is a simple story. Balaji Mohan has narrated it in a beautiful way by designing good characterizations, writing interesting screenplay and narrating it in a novel way. You can see heavy influence of Woody Allen’s work (especially hero speaking to the camera and creative screenplay (like the scene in which heroine gives the flower – then hero goes into dream before heroine takes it back and keep it in the book)). Director is intelligent and creative. There is subtlety in his work. There are certain scenes in the film for which you smile after a couple of seconds (it takes time to get that humor understood). There is neither formula not familiar commercial elements in the film. Balaji sticks to the plot and delivers the goods. There are several interesting scenes in the movie. Here I am giving a couple of them
1. The girl coughing in a scene where another girl explains about her cheating boy friend.
2. Director showing a heavy water fall comparing it with the tears of girls who used it as a secret weapon to win over an argument.
3. The Coffee shop scene where girl will be thinking about interiors etc and boy’s mind is blank (randaka background song) at the same time.
love failureOther departments: One of the main strengths of the film is writing. The dialogues are sharp and quirky. Lyrics are fun. Thaman comes up with refreshing songs and a soothing background music. Cinematography by Nirav Shah is of top notch quality. The colors are natural and you wouldn’t believe that it is shot with a digital camera. Editing is crisp. Production values complement the story.
love failureAnalysis: Love Failure is an urban romantic comedy told in a fresh an novel style. Siddharth has picked up the director by looking at a short film in youtube and asked him to make it a full-length feature film. I had seen that short film and the feature film is even better than the short film. Not even a single frame in this movie is compromised to please a section of audiences. The director has stuck to plot and to his narration style. The director has excellent understanding of how men and women think/react in contrastingly different ways for the same situation. On a whole, Love Failure is a well-made urban romantic comedy. Go and watch it!
New business formula: My sources tell me that this film is made in a very small budget because hero Siddharth and cinematographer Nirav Shav were not paid (to be shared from profits). The budget of the movie is recovered by satellite rights. The amount collected in theatrical run is the profit. A few Telugu filmmakers tried it in the past and failed, because they have concentrated more on economics and ignored the content. Love Failure is a fine example of economical film-making with good content.
“The more you have bad experiences in romance, the more mature you become. I am an example for this,” says Siddharth, who has turned a producer with ‘Kadhalil Sodhappuvadhu Eppadi’, which has him playing the lead role as well.
“In fact, it was my ‘Sodhappal’ experiences in love that made me to produce this film. When I watched Kadhalil Sodhappuvadhu Eppadi as a short film on a video sharing site, I immediately wanted to make it as a feature film and managed to catch director Balaji Mohan somehow,” he says.
Siddharth has produced this movie in association with cinematographer Nirav Shah and Y Not Studios, which produced ‘meaningful films’ like ‘Thamizh Padam’ and ‘Va: Quarter Cutting’.
Amala Paul is playing Siddharth’s love interest in this film. Music is by Thaman, while cinematography by Nirav Shah. “I love to do Tamil films. Henceforth, I will be part of Kollywood ventures in regular intervals. KSY will announce my comeback in a big way,” says the ‘Boys’ actor.
Says Nirav Shah “I have been in the industry for more than a decade now. I wanted to try my hands at a different trade, other than cinematography. And the story of KSY impressed me. That’s how I became a producer.”
On the film, he said, “It is a cute love story loaded with humor. The roles played by Siddharth and Amala Paul in the movie are close real life, and this has given an added advantage to Kadhalil Sodhappuvadhu Eppadi.”
Hailing director Balaji Mohan as a ‘young talent’, Nirav Shah said, “He is just 24 and will sure make a big mark in Kollywood with this film.”
Says Balaji, the director, “I am thankful to Siddharth, Nirav Shah and Y Not Studios for coming forward to produce Kadhalil Sodhappuvadhu Eppadi as a full-length movie, after watching it as a short film. Working with this great team was a huge learning experience.”
Boasting off a young team that’s creative in every aspect, KSY that’s an out and out love story set in a campus which showcases what happens when you break up with your loved one is sure to strike a chord among audiences.
Men are men. Women are women. There is a lot of difference between them. They are contrasting characters. This has been beautifully brought out by debutant Balaji Mohan in Kadhalil Sodhappuvadhu Eppadi. It is a movie that was first made as a short film by him. He has recreated the same magic that short film generated well with KSE.
Any love is incomplete without catfights and arguements. For a relationship to succeed, better understanding of each other’s emotions is needed. These has been handled well by the director. The filmmaker speaks about the ego and emotion among young lovers of today.
The movie has no big story to boast of. Narrated from the hero’s point of view, KSE relies on wonderful onscreen chemistry between Siddharth and Amala Paul.
Balaji Mohan’s smart dialogues deserves appreciation. The scenes reflect real-life situation and every character chip in with their best.
Arun (Siddharth) is a engineering student who has an affinity for Parvathi (Amala Paul), who study in the same college. They love each other. But Parvathay’s parents hdecide to seek divorce and this haunts her a lot. She finds solace in Arun. However, they develop arguements and misunderstandings that soon result in their separation. Did they
sort out all their difference and did Parvathy’s parents get reunited forms the crux.
Siddharth chip in with his best. His amazing screen preesence comes to his rescue. He plays his part with consummate ease. Amala Paul’s plays a girl with mixed and varied thoughts well. The likes of Ravi Raghavendar, Suresh, Balaji among others chip in with theier best. Nirav Shah’s camera work is good. The romance in the campus are capturing bright and beautiful by his lens. Thaman’s music is youthful and songs form part of the script and not thrust anywhere.
Produced by Y Not Studios in association with Etaki Entertainment, KSE is an entertaining movie thanks to Balaji Mohan’s catchy dialogues and quick narration of events. The movie is sure to entertain youngsters.
No sodhappal from Balaji Mohan in his maiden venture.
Verdict: Romance razmatazz!!!
Saw Kadhalil Sodhappuvadhu Yeppadi on Friday. Painful monologue. Amala Paul s make up was bad, her clothes were worse. I don’t like the name of the movie either.. could have had a better one. It was an overall amateur take on love…. No chemistry between Amala Paul and SIddharth. Songs were mediocre… Very disappointing. Felt like a badly taken documentary.
trend setter 4r sure:):):)
all smiles&no woreries:):)
balaji mohan rocxxxxx:):) way 2 go:)!
very nice…superb and brilliant attempt by director Balaji……He worked hard to bring up the short film as a movie….really he deserves a victory….sid and amala is too good
Lovely movie. A fresh love story with realistic script. The movie works because there is no heroism and the story is very much like yours and mine love story. Every guy and gal can relate to the story. First is ok, but i found the 2nd half to be gripping and engaging.
Nice jolly entertaining movie with loads of laughs… The director has done an excellent job in bringing his short film to the big screen in different dimensions… Real treat for youngsters… Watch it…
A treat for the young..
Kadhalil Sodhappuvadhu Yeppadi is a romantic comedy featuring Siddharth and Amala Paul. It is directed by short filmmaker Balaji Mohan. Produced by Siddharth, Nirav Shah and Y Not Studios, KSY is quite a smart move by both the parties. Let us first look into that.
Considering the lead actor and cinematographer won’t be taking any paychecks (from themselves, that is), KSY is understandably made with a very small budget. It is also said that the entire budget of the movie has been recovered by selling the television rights. So, each and every penny the movie makes through theaters will be a profit. A new director, a reasonably fresh face in Amala Paul, very simple and straightforward locations throughout the film and few other familiar names in the cast, all make KSY even more of a smaller movie. The fact that it is releasing in both Tamil and Telugu (as Love Failure) gives the production team even more credit.
Now, let us get into the part of the review that actually matters. The film is really, really enjoyable! I mean, some of us would have actually seen the original short film (which has the same title) and loved several parts of it. Fortunately, director Balaji has re-created the magic in almost every scene, despite sticking with some of the same dialogues. He should be given a ton of credit for carrying out things without any “added masala” to it. His dialogues, the way he has laid out the screenplay, and the way the humor is carried out through the scenes is amazing.
The story is amazingly simple and subtle, which might be one of the reasons it will be enjoyed by a lot of people. For those of you in college (or young enough to think of college and smile), KSY is quite a treat. In all fairness, this not merely your everyday love story. It connects with the audience in several levels and almost reminds everyone of something from their past.
It should however, be noted that this is not the first time a screenplay has been shaped this way. Balaji’s script is reminiscent of Woody Allen movies, and more commonly in pictures like Kal Ho Na Ho, where in the characters speak to the camera as if they are being interviewed. Few might find this a bit annoying and will want to criticize Balaji for not being able to come up with more straightforward third party dialogues, but remember, this guy has just made his first feature film. The chances are he is going to improve on it.
Coming to the performances, Siddharth has lived the role having as much fun as he would have had during his college. He looks totally cool and young (despite being not so young for real) in all of the scenes. His character does show off some pompousness and he delivers some weird dialogues at times, but it is enough to make him sound too cheesy. We can be sure that the girls are going to fall in love with him all over again. Talk about getting all kinds of returns from one movie!
Next, there is the pretty and cute Amala Paul playing Parvati, who will probably get more wanna-be directors interested in casting her in their first movie. She has certainly managed to get her dialogues in place for this one. At some points in the movie, you can actually feel how she drives Arun crazy as if it’s happening to you. For me, this will be the success for both her and another chance to give out kudos to Balaji.
The rest of the cast is fairly new but my, do they make the movie refreshing. Everything about them in the movie is casual and natural. Although Balaji has not given in a lot of detail to their characters, they play their parts well. They also add more value to the movie, which is by the way going up with every line I write.
Nirav Shah, producer and cinematographer, is at his usual best. I feel that it is important to underline his impact here. For one, the movie is not shot in a super college set where everyone on screen is a junior artist, and two, this is not the first college romance we have seen. But thanks to Mr.Shah, we do feel both of these to be true to a certain extent.
Thaman’s music is not great but the video songs are fairly bearable. Few of them are quite good too, but, when opposed to the rest of the production, I would say this is a bit of a letdown. It will not ruin your experience, though.
To sum it up, KSY is a very enjoyable movie with a straightforward storyline. Balaji Mohan impresses with his first movie. Siddharth, Amala Paul and the cast make everything look so natural that you think back about college and feel nostalgic.
Verdict – Think twice before you laugh too much. This might just be your love story!
Awesum movy :) :) Go for de movy … Loads of laufs :) :) Depicts urban youth;s life and confusion abt gals :P :P just awesum go for t ….. and Balaji Mohan …..u hav done a grt job :) :) Campionite roxxxxxx
