Nanban was declared by a section of trade pundits as the first genuine hit of the year. A remake of Hindi hit 3 Idiots, directed by Shankar, it featured Vijay, Srikanth, Jeeva and Ileana in the lead roles. Though much was written by media on the movie’s success, the Box Office performance has been under a lot of speculation.
Those in the trade say there are mixed views. It is believed that the Vijay starrer had kept the Box Office busy not only in India but at screens across the globe in the first couple of weeks.
Sources say that in first week itself it garnered more than Rs 61 crore.
The flick did pretty well in the UK and Australia besides Malaysia and Singapore many say.
However a few in the trade said, ‘the cost of the production was too high. Hence the collection , though big, yet couldn’t match the cost of production’.
