Director-turned actor Cheran has the habit of speaking out his mind. From time to time, his utterances do get him into trouble but that hardly keeps him steer away from making statements. Cheran was taking part at the release of ‘trailer’ of Karnan, a classic film starring the late Sivaji Ganesan in the lead and which released more than 40 years ago.

Before you stat wondering as to how come a function was held to release the ‘trailer’ of the film which released decades back, it is informed that Divya Films are attempting re-release of the film based on the epic Mahabharat after ‘sprucing up’ the film using the state-of-the-art technology .
The event was held at the Sathyam Cinemas in the city and was attended by veteran music director T.K Ramamurthy, legendary playback singes T.M Soundararajan, P. Suseela and P.B. Srinivas. Ramkumar, elder son of late Sivaji, was also present. Cheran, who compered the show, said “Today’s actors can only remake films like Billa and Maappillai. Do they have the guts to attempt remaking any of Sivaji’s film(s)?
“Sivaji’s Uthamaputhiran was the ultimate fantasy of every man. We have lost count of the number of times we have wondered after watching Sivaji’s films as to how he could act so realistic! Those who claim to make films matching ‘Hollywood quality’ better attempt remaking Sivaji’s films to know what realistic acting is all about. Known for his various get-ups, Sivaji never opted for any Hollywood make-up men but used only the professionals from Tamil Nadu,” concluded Cheran.
