Thanks to the immense and unprecedented popularity being enjoyed by the song ‘ Why this Kolaveri di…’ which features in actor Dhanush’s upcoming film 3, the national-award winning actor has received a surprise invitation to attend a dinner being hosted by the Hon’ble Prime Minister to honour the visiting Japanese Premier in New Delhi today.

Dhanush pairs up opposite ‘Ulaganayagan’ Kamal Hassan’s daughter and actress Shruti Hassan in 3, which also marks the directorial debut of his wife Aishwarya. The audio-launch of the film, produced by Dhanush’s father, was held in Chennai last Friday. The Kolaveri song, penned and sung by Dhanush himself and set to music by newcomer Anirudh, has caught up among the youths in a big way.
The song was recently awarded a ‘Gold Star’ by YouTube for having had a record 1.5 million hits for downloading and listening to the song by eager music-lovers and fans of Dhanush. Though the song has been taken to task by purists for its English and Tamil mixed lyrics, the youth seem to like it to no end. The ‘Time’ Magazine, one of the most widely read magazines, carried a special news item about the song in one of its recent issues.
Dhanush, unmindful of the criticism, has been dancing to this hugely popular number at all the places he has been visiting in the past few weeks. Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, who seemed to have taken a liking to the song, has reportedly invited Dhanush to dine with him at the dinner he is hosting for the visiting Japanese Prime Minister at his residence in New Delhi tonight.
Dhanush is said to be over the moon about the invite he has received from PMO. The new recognition has spurred him on to find new ‘meaning’ to the lyrics of the song. “The song has, of course, opened many avenues for me. It’s indeed a meaningful song as the English lyrics have touched the soul of the listeners. I’m thankful to God for all this,” he says.
