The teasers and vigorous promotions by the makers would have kicked up your expectations upon the film. The invigorations became irresistible and nothing could stop the masses from craving for the film. ‘This will make every Tamilian prouder’, ‘This is gonna be an important milestone in Tamil film industry’ and ‘How much ever you may expect, the film will exceed the limits’. Wow! These lines of promotions were more than enough to keep us hooked for this big day to arrive.

Producer Udhayanidhi Stalin has burned candles at both end spending big sum for promotional campaigns itself. What makes the film special now? Yes, the very fact that A.R Murugadoss has picked an unusual concept of a hidden history of ‘Boddhidharman’. But the basic conflict that revolves around the recombinant DNA technology to evoke the genetic traits of ancestors is something well known to the population… However clichéd a story might be, the substantiality is showcased by the crisp and engrossing screenplay. On this front, A.R. Murugadoss has failed to deliver the right soul essential for the film.

On the dot, ‘7am Arivu‘ belongs completely to Surya and Surya alone. His charismatic appeal, mind-boggling performance becomes the spotlighting key for the film.

Centuries ago, a Buddhist monk Boddhidharman (Surya) belonging to Pallavan dynasty travels to China for a reason. The people dwelling there are prone to inevitable problems – ailments and attacks from neighboring dominions are solaced by his presence. Boddhidharman authors a book that includes the treatments for various ailments that will keep the globe free from illnesses. But the prognosticators feel that his departure from China will be a bad omen and so poison him and the Buddhist monk succumbs to his culmination wholeheartedly.

Cut to – Present Day

Group of scientists lead by Subha (Shruti Hassan) are vigorously working on an experiment to bring back the individualistic characters of Boddhidharman by using the source person from the same lineage, who is none other than Aravind (Surya) working as a clown in circus. Meanwhile the Chinese Government appoints an agent Dong Lee (Johny Tri Nguyen) to kick-open ‘Operation Red’, which will turn the entire India into a graveyard costing the lives of innocents.

What unfolds next is an inevitable combat between Aravind-Subha and Dong Lee with a climax that is so predictable.

Surya‘s performance deserves the pick of best synonyms of superlative adjectives. He is patently over the top with his acting adeptness in each frame. Be his charismatic appeal as Boddhidharman and as a young peppy lover boy Aravind, he makes it happen with his body language and expressions. Not to miss his surpassing action sequences, where he manages to stand powerfully equal as Johnny Tri Nguyen. But there is nothing special to mark upon the performances of other actors. Shruti Hassan lacks confidence during most of the portions. She has tried giving her best approach in dubbing, but her facial expressions doesn’t synch well. Johnny could have been portrayed yet more powerfully. There are less action sequences for the actor as most of them are dominated by hypnotism and artists locking horns for hand-on-hand combat are so weak and fragile.

The onscreen chemistry between Surya and Shruti Hassan is little missing while on the positive front, there are some sequences that will urge us for a wide applause. Don’t miss the scene where Johnny tries hypnotizing Surya and fails followed by a graveyard ambience where we have dialogues regarding Tamil Liberation Leader. Finally, the power-packed action sequence in climax becomes the major highlight.

Songs were splendidly mesmerizing the listeners before the release, but not all songs are apt for the situation. They’re purposely forced into the screenplay. Imagine the context at which song appears in ‘Ghajini’ as almost all the tracks gained popularity after the release. But things aren’t same here… Background score doesn’t enhance the situations, but Ravi K Chandran trivializes such errs with his prodigious cinematography. The opening sequences in China are very well filmed and so are the songs.

On the whole, ‘7am Arivu‘ has some interesting moments, but doesn’t keep the audiences engrossed throughout the show. An engaging screenplay throughout the film as narrated during last 25mins would have made it a perfect thriller with a message to boast about the quality of being ‘Tamilian’.

What works: Throwing light on hidden history of ‘Boddhidharman’, Surya, cinematography, last 20mins

What doesn’t work: The basic premise, Screenplay, Over-dosage of ‘Hypnotism’ in action sequences that becomes ridiculous after an extent, First half…

07 586x882 7am arivu review

Verdict: Surya‘s powerful show with missing traces of A.R Murugadoss.

  1. ’7am Arivu’ is yet another A.R Murugadoss – Surya combo’s magnum opus, after their big blockbuster ‘Ghajini’!

This Sci-fi epic drama film will be another mile stone venture in Surya’s career as he plays two different characters – Buddhist Monk and a Circus man.

The film depicts the story of a 5th Century Pallava prince-turned-Buddhist monk called Bodhidharma, who was born in Kanchipuram and travelled to China renouncing his Kingship. The monk is considered the 28th patriarch of Lord Buddha and was responsible for institutionalizing and spreading Zen philosophy in the world. He is also said to be the creator of the martial art Kung Fu and taught it at the Shoalin Temple in China. ’7aam Arivu’ pictures the greatness of this Tamil saint who is still revered and worshiped in China and Japan and all around the world.

In the film, the story of Bodhidharma is related to the present setup with an incident and Shruti Hassan’s scientist character finds the connection between two different eras.

It was said that Christopher Nolan’s ‘Inception’, a Hollywood Sci-fi, has inspired A.R Murugadoss to create this story. But Murugadoss categorically rejects and say, “’7am Arivu’ is a creation of 2 years of script work and my film’s shoot started well before the release of ‘Inception’!”

Surya has again brought his six-pack physique for this film to show the power of the martial art. He has also put a lot of hard work in learning tough stunt movements to put a spectacular show in the film.

Along with Surya, the martial art extravagance of an American-Vietnamese actor Johnny Tri Nguyen in the film going to be another feat for the film lovers. He plays the villain of the protagonist in the film.

Cute Shruti Hassan, who is donning a role of a scientist, has also given her scintillating performances in vital scenes and dance sequences.

Udhayanidhi Stalin’s Red Giant Movies has produced the movie at a whopping budget of 84 Crore. “As a producer I’m proud to be a part of this wonderful film. It is a milestone movie in the productions of my banner”, says Udhayanidhi Stalin, who at any point of time never stayed back in spending his money for the film’s production. The film boasts the expense of Rs. 7 Crore for just the intro scene of the film!

A.R Murugadoss and Harris Jayaraj has already created that wonder in ‘Ghajini’. And, this success combo has come together again for ’7am Arivu’ to churn out yet another musical magic!

The music of the film very much shows the enormous hard work that the composer has put in to bring out those extraordinary instrumentations in songs and background score. “I toured many oriental countries to find those traditional instruments for creating rare sounds for the Chinese content in the film for both the song and rerecording!”, says Harris Jayaraj!

The film’s music album, whose rights were sold for a record price to Sony Music, has created ripples in the market by registering quick retail sales of the album. The songs have also become chartbusters topping the charts!

And, the visuals of songs one of the highlights of the film. From cute and colourful locations abroad to Chennai city crowded parts to the green woods and barren lands the crew has travelled widely and shot those perfect pictures for songs.

The song ‘Oh Ringa…’ was shot in the busy streets and crowded places of Chennai city with the involvement of more than 1000 dance performers was amazingly discussed by the tinsel town.

Ravi K. Chandran’s camera work, Editor Anthony’s cut and Sound art have taken the film, and our Tamil cinema, to another level of technical excellence.

The courageous and amazing thought and work of A.R Murugadoss and the artistic and technical cooperation by his team and the staunch support of Red Giant Movies’ Udhayanidhi Stalin has brought out a Masterpiece called ’7am Arivu’!

Overall, the movie is definitely a milestone film in the history of Tamil cinema. A film to be proud of being a Tamil!

    Shruti Hassan’s magic rules!!!

Offers are raining on charming Shruti Hassan. In Telugu, she is going places with big projects falling in her hands.

And in Tamil too, she is doing pretty well. Despite her busy schedule as an actress, Shruti is still lending her voice to film songs. She has sung a raunchy item song for the Tamil film, Osthi, which is remake of Hindi blockbuster Dabangg.

On the other hand, she is playing female lead in the Telugu version of Dabangg opposite Pawan Kalyan. Titled Gabbar Singh, the film is currently under progress.

She is also currently working on NTR`s Dammu and Siddharth’s O My Friend in Telugu. Her first Tamil film as the lead actress with Suriya is set for grand release.

  4. Dear friends,

  5. Paramasivam says:

For the director A.R Murugadoss, innovation is the key to success in his ventures. When he entered into the foray of holding the megaphone with his maiden film Dhina, the industry was not in a position to fix him under any category. This happened even with handling Ajith and A.R Murugadoss remained in recluse until he came back with Ramana. This time with Vijayakanth, he crossed the barriers of conventional approach to the movie making and the script raised many eyebrows then. However, he shot into fame only with his Ghajini when he handled Surya in an altogether different concept. Of course, the concept of revenge for the sake of lover ( slightly deviating from Ramana where Vijayakanth revenged the villain for the death of his wife Simran) has been the practical norm, A.R Murugadoss treated the theme with a psychological aberrations. The idea of STML (short time memory loss) rose to fame with that movie and brought imminent success. This same novel director is now on the foray with his next grand venture ’7am Arivu’.

The movie comes under Udayanidhi Stalin’s Red Giant Movies at an estimated budget of Rs. 90 crores. AR Murugadoss is in charge of story, screenplay and direction. The cast includes Surya, Shruti Hassan, Johnny Tri Nguyen from Vietnam, Kannda actor Avinash as the villain along with the untold fame Abinaya (of Nadodigal fame) doing an important role pairing with Surya. Harris Jeyaraj has scored the songs which already rocked the air and the radio channels.

As far as the information regarding this movie, the title refers to a contrasting nature that A.R Murugadoss might have induced a new thought through this movie. From his interviews, it was assumed that he had traced and tracked various antiques for the details regarding time machine and human evolution. Additional information is that there could be a retrieval of the early Tamil kings who had good rapport and affinity with China. A.R Murugadoss said the movie will revolve around various phases of the human civilization and Surya will depict these various forms of characters. There is also a focus on the scientific and technological evolution amidst these traditional fervors. The major factor in this film is that Surya will be donning the roles with the Chinese martial art Kung Fu and other acrobatics. As per the story, a parallel phase of Time machine will enable the movement of the civilization and in this regard Shruti Hassan is tipped. The situation to save Shruti Hassan’s interest and innovation makes them come together. A.R Murugadoss comes out with a message how the tradition can be utilized for the betterment of society in spite of the advancements of science and technology.

There are many circles which claim that A.R Murugadoss has become aware of the following for deriving the storyline for ’7am Arivu’

The Hollywood movie, The Fountain which portrays three different roles of a hero on three different time period
    *** Another Hollywood movie, Perfume
    *** Another movie, Inception
*** Even the Bollywood movie Chandni Chowk to China
*** However, A.R Murugadoss claimed that he has his originality in his mind and everything will be revealed in the movie.

’7am Arivu’ has got special distinction for two main things:

The song sequence of O Ringa and the Chinese rendition through Tamil lyrics. A.R Murugadoss set the song sequence employing more than 1000 artists for which the outcome has already been noticed through song promos. A.R Murugadoss took the entire crew to the various locations like China, Thailand and Hong Kong for shooting the scenes and songs.

Surya delivered his very best for this movie that he had to face ankle fracture while on a stunt scene. He raised the six-pack physique for matching the martial artist. He learnt and displayed his talents in Kung Fu, the style promoted by Bruce Lee during the 80s and followed by Jackie Chan of late. Another feature is that Surya totally avoided double for stunt sequences and he took the daring steps on his own style.

Harris Jeyaraj procured the antique musical instruments from the Chinese bazaar for retaining the originality of the soundtrack.

The film is on the state of release very soon in record number of theatres in Tamilnadu and other regions of India. This makes there could be more than 1500 prints, the highest number for Surya’s film in his career. The film is released worldwide through different houses.

With U certification from the Censor Board, ’7am Arivu’ is making a mega opening fever among the fans. It is learnt that the advance booking for the movie in all the centres has received tremendous response within two days.

Sun Pictures is taking charge of this movie promotion and has got the satellite rights.

Kerala and Andhra Pradesh will receive the release on Dewali day itself.

  6. hi friends,

im juz back frm watching ’7am arivu’ – 6pm show in singapore. so thought of writing a review. well, i do not know how to write a review unlike pondy bhai. this is my 1st time. plus my english is not that gr8. so my review will be simple, meaning to say i wont go into too many details. many of you might know that im a surya fan. but dont worry. my thoughts are not biased. so strengthen your heart n mind 1st coz you might be reading the worst type of review in your life

i will not start of by saying things like this is the most expected film since its the ghajini team n murugadoss film after 5 years, its the 2nd costliest tamil movie etc. etc. i will jump straight into the story.

1600 years ago there was this prince called Bodhi Dharman(surya) who is a martial art and a medicine expert. he is frm kanchivaram. then he went to china. not sure why coz many audience were shouting and whistling. then in the china village there was a weird disease attacking. then surya helped them cure this disease and taught them how to cure. so due to this the villager see him as a god. then later some men in horse attacked the village people. then again surya helped and taught them the martial arts. when he want to go back to india, the villagers gave him poison since they want his body to be burried in the village so that the village will be free from disease. knowing their intention, surya drank the poison willingly. thats how martial arts n chinese medicine grew.

then coming to the current year, there is this surya who is a circus artist who falls in love with shruthi hasan who is a scientist. shruthi moves closely with surya. then when surya relatives came frm their village they saw shrithi hasan n informs surya that shruthi hasan was following surya for more than a year. when surya heard this, he goes to shruthi home n finds out that shruthi was using surya all these while for experiments regarding dna since surya is bodhidharman’s parambarai (dont know how to say in english sorry). then she tells more information about her research to surya saying that bodhidarman’s power is inside surya n it can be activated.

meantime this villan frm china named dong injects something into a dog. then with the power of his eyes he destorys police officers n was going after surya n shrithi to kill them. surya n shruthi knows abt this n then they found out that that dong was sent by the chinese governemnt. he injected disease to the dog which will spread to the whle of india. then when india suffers, china can sell the medicine to india since only they know how to make this medicine since it is taught by bodhidharman years back. dong wants to kill surya n shruthi since shruthi can make surya into bodhidarman n can get the medicine. then shruthi n her frnds started experinmenting surya to become bodhidarman. then when dong almost kill surya, surya get activated by bodhidarman powers n destroys dong.

surya shruthi n dong are the 3 main characters in this movie. surya’s performance was good. the much talked abt circus stunts failed to impress since it can be seen only for less than a minute in total in the ringa ringa song. but his action scenes are mind blowing espicially the climax. surya fight exactly like a martial art expert.

shruthi shd feel very lucky to get this role. she was more like a 2nd hero then an ordinary glam doll heroine. n she made use of it very well. she will have a bright future in tamil cinema. all the best to ulaganayagan heir.

then the villain dong. he simply rocked. one of the best villains i have seen. such a powerful eyes. his martial art wows the audience. well sected by murugadoss.

to tell abt the movie, it started of with history of Bodhidharma. 15 mins of history. 15 cores was spent on it. so 1 core per min. it was deserving. yes. we could see n feel that richness in the 15 mins history. the action sequence was awesome. im sure all of you wld enjoy the history.

then the movie starts off. i would say it was disappointing 1st half. the main reason for that was songs. 4 songs in the 1st half. 3 of them was unnecessary. 1st song was the Chinese song n it was well placed. then after the history ends ringa ringa song started as an introduction. though ringa ringa song was unnecessary it kept audience in the seat as the way the song was taken was gr8. with huge amount of dancers n the location, camera etc. it was good to see. but then soon afterwards mun andhi song came too quickly. then even quicker was yemma yemma. its disappointing to see director like ar murugadoss to place songs unnecessarily.

the story really didn’t move in the 1st half. when the intermission came, to be honest i was not keen to watch the 2nd half. yes. it was that bad.

but 2nd half – it was 1st class. the movie ran in lightnening speed. every second was simply awesome. it makes you anxious to know what is going to happen next. powerful, untouchable villan chasing hero n heroine may remind us of Dasavatharam. adding to being a scientific medical movie, there was nothing else similar to dasavathram. it is different.

stunt sequence is the highlight of this film. the movie shows the art of nokuvarmam which means controlling of a person’s brain by juz looking with your eyes. this was done by Bodhidharma and the villain in many places. weather is that real or not, weather it could be done or not is a different thing. but an ordinary audience may not believe it especially the scene when the villain controls entire motorist mind in the road. but though it seems unbelievable, it was overshadowed by the brilliant stunt sequence. what i mean is, spider biting a guy and the guy becomes spider man. though this is unbelievable, we will not bother about it. we will look only @ the stunt sequence. same applies to this movie.

overall i would say that this movie will fulfill the expectation of all if not exceed it. ’7am arivu’ is a milestone not only in Tamil film history but also Indian film history. like i said the only minus is 1st half, but it was overshadowed by the brilliant 2nd half. it is a must watch film.

thank u 2 all 4 reading my review. i know the way i review it s**ks. but sorry. i will try to improve.

  7. The film ‘Ezham Arivu’ is completely a new script in tamil. This movie ‘Ezham Arivu’ depicts the life story of circus people which is a rare occurrence in the tamil movies. Suriya plays the role of a handicapped circus artiste in 7am Arivu and will be performing all the circus stunts. Surya also plays the role of scientist & a buddhist monk. Shruti Haasan will be seen in the role of Sharmili.

One of the popular music directors, Harris jayaraj has composed music for this film. The film ‘Ezham Arivu’ is produced by Udhyanidhi Stalin. The crew has planned to release the movie in three versions, Tamil, Telugu and Hindi. Suriya is undertaking a challenging role. He is adopting the character of animal trainer in this movie.

Bodhidharma, who was the Pallava king of 6th Century. He went to China and spread our tradition among them.

Movie Theme: “7am Arivu” is based on the theme of time traveling and the movie revolves around a Time Machine. This time machine is invented by Shruti Hassan as she plays the role of a scientist in the movie.

Her invention of time machine unveils the hidden truths including the Tamil culture and its ancient connection with the Chinese tradition. As the bad guys try to steal this invention but are stopped by Surya who will be playing three different roles in this movie one is scientist and another two are an aggressive monk and a circus stunt artist.

  9. Movie is okay..could have limited the promotions…The History portions are good..graphics s**ks..deviates one from the story..operation red was not required..could have brought still a logical thinking..somewhere the film drops between…songs are boring to the core…shruthi shines in acting but drops in songs…overall an average with a very great story..appreciate Murugadoss for his efforts…but screenplay is not upto the mark…

  10. It is an average movie don’t go with over expectation it may diaapoint you.Movie has got some scientific reason but I wonder it will enter mass audience or not? Mass audience response will decide the fate of the movie. You can see it once n predit the twists. Differenr movie

  11. Awesome movie……………….

  12. It is good effort. Murgadoss, Surya and Shruthi hassan has done good job. Harris jeyaraj’s music is average. Story line is fast, except for first 30 minutes. Not a boring or a regular masala type. It can be watched with family, no awakward jokes or dances. For sure, you won’t feel a waste of time or money. Time well spent. Kudos to the Team !.

  13. 7th sense is a non sense use less movie……………..director copy pasted few hollywood movie scenes into this movie………….

  14. Its not soo great movie……..we expected more surya proven to be a nice actor not great as kamal or vikram his acting is avg as d movie is avg …………..iam shocked how stipudious the director is he spent 10 crores for a 8 min shot which appeaared mid way between second half n end of d movie …they said dat scene is going to be thrilling n highlight of d movie buttt so it appears to be the first comic scene of the movie…………..were the people behave like a vampires in RESIDENTIAL EVIL n boring concept as villian follows the herion n hero to kill them as in the TERMINATOR 1 2 and 3 ………nothing new in dis movie all the scenes are copy paste of hollywood movies ………..JUST I MENTIONED ONLY ABOVE THERE ARE MANY MORE MOVIES TO COMPARE WITH……..

SURYA SIR BEST OF LUCK…….Iam not yet watched velayudham if it is GOOD then your movie going to be a BOXOFFICE FLOP………..

  16. 7 am arivu is a cruel attempt to demoralize movie-goers and general public as such. A.R Murugadoss should be stripped naked in public and beat up with that stick bodhidharman uses in that movie.Surya touches a new low in the movie,Sruti hasan dissapoints all sexually frustrated boys, which is the only thing she is capable of doing….

  18. Box office report says:

Surya’s ’7am Arivu’ off to a thunderous start!!!

—‘7am Arivu’ opens to packed houses and positive response…

Surya’s much-awaited film 7am Arivu has made a thunderous opening with positive response from the critics and audience. But, can it be a big hit like Ghajini?

Many are of the view that it fails to catapult past the ‘Ghajini’ magic. Though the team is the same, 7am Arivu lacks the extra punch. Nevertheless, trade pundits have already predicted its good run at the box office for the first week. As the movie saw tremendous advance booking, the coming five days are going to be housefull. We can already see Suriya, Shruti Haasan, A.R. Murgadoss smiling.

Suriya’s Bodhidharma look is also a hit and is trending. ‘7am Arivu’ is a period-contemporary film that throws light on the martial arts and Bodhidharma, who is known as Da Mo in China. Suriya gets to essay multiple roles in this film: he is a prince, then Bodhidharma aka Da Mo and also a circus artist. 7am Arivu, which means 7th Sense, also marks the debut of Shruti Haasan in Tamil films. Shruti plays a scientist in the film.

But the movie faces tough competition from the Bollywood release Ra.One which also released in Tamil, and Velayudham starring Vijay.

The coming days are going to be crucial for 7am Arivu.

  19. Nothing Special!!!

When a successful team comes together for the second time, expectations will be always high and 7am Arivu is no exception, as Surya, A.R Murugadoss and Harris Jeyaraj have teamed up after a mega hit Ghajini. In addition, the fact that Kamal Hassan’s daughter Shruti hassan is making her entry in Tamil and the film is produced by Red giant, who has many successful films in the past 3 years with their innovative promotional campaigns, the expectations went to to sky and infact much above all its competition films. Whether the movie met this sky-level expectations? .. Here is the answer.

The movie starts with the story of Bodhi Dharman, a Pallava prince who goes to China from Kanchipuram. Then slowly unfolds his story in the voice over – How he becomes Messiah in the Chinese Village, how he founded Martial arts (Shaolin), why he was killed but worshiped as a God in that region etc. The story is then cut to the present, which revolves around Aravindh (Surya – a Circus artist), Suba Srinivasan (Shruti – a genetic engineering student) and Dong Lee (Johnny Tri Nguyen – Marital arts master). Chinese government plans for a Bio-war called ‘Operation Red’ against India and sends Dong Lee to Chennai as in-charge for the plan execution. Suba, who is doing a research on Bodhi Dharman, founds Aravindh has the genetic relation with Bodhi Dharman and Bodhi Dharman’s talent can be recreated through Aravindh and thereby save the country from Operation Red attack. How they accomplish the task forms the rest of the story.

The story on paper looks brilliant but A.R Murugadoss & his team failed miserably in the execution. With the lousy screenplay and quite predictable sequences, the film failed to engage the audience. A.R Murugadoss who is known for his flawless screenplay, has left so many loop holes & unanswered questions in the movie. A.R Murugadoss just trusted Surya and Surya just trusted A.R Murugadoss, by which both have fell into the shambles. While the initial frames create a greater sense of expectations, the intermittent song sequences irritate us making us to question ourselves about the ‘real movie’. To get relieved from the prolonged narrations and the repetitive remarks about the technicalities, A.R Murugadoss might have used songs, but it actually instigates the audience to have breaks within the break hour.

More than in the modern outlook, Surya betters in the get up of Bodhidharma as he is left to do the role with ease and comfort. But he took much pains to herald the elements as an acrobat with Shruti beside him. Surya can convince himself that he has done a different role in his career and has come out with a message that he too is capable of enacting varied characters. But he cannot claim the repeat of his deeds of 2010 which took him to the peak of fame with Ayan, Singam and before that Vaaranam Aayiram. He has occasions to display his well-built physique rather than proving his acting skills. In this film, we should admit that Johnny gets equal weightage in terms of frames with Surya.

Shruti Hassan’s (Suba Srinivasan) maiden attempt in Tamil films got a big opening through this director and production house. But she got little opportunities to depict in a complex theme of experimenting the genetics. Perhaps, A.R Murugadoss might have rescued her from too much of doses, taking her short experience in acting into account. However she excels where she expresses fear and shocks faced from the terrific conspirators. Shruti creates a sense to us as though watching the performance of a Hollywood artist. We can only admire her for complete surrender to the situations wherein she is put. She is quite exemplary in song sequences proving that she is no inferior to his father.

Ravi K.Chandran has exploited the SFX aspects skillfully and he has swallowed all the charms of the Chinese regions in real color. Harris Jeyaraj has so far never let down neither Surya nor A.R Murugadoss ( with whom this is his second project). 7am Arivu is also not an exception. But unfortunately Harris Jeyaraj has contributed this fine tuning numbers without knowing that they would find place in unsavory slots in the flow of the movie. The numbers are quite appealing aided by the visuals and the locales are vibrantly shot by the lensman Ravi K.Chandran and is worth watching as a separate album. The Chinese song still mesmerizes with the soft chords so as the pneumatic number O Ringa. For this sort of complex frames of scenes, the background score is the booster and Harris does it well. Positives
A.R Murugadoss’s initiative to protect the Tamil heritage and the Indian culture from further decay, focus on the need to employ the available technology to the betterment of human lives in all spheres.
His boldness to choose such a theme in the fast advancing world, genuine attempts to trace and place the genuine records implanted in the antiquities
Surya’s stringent disposition to the role allocated for him
Costume packages to retain the historical effect at the core
Camera from Ravi K.Chandran and Harris Jeyaraj’s numbers

    Negatives
Clustering so many incidents into this single fold
    Too much dependence on technology
Mishandling of the machination concept without proper plan
Snail’s movement of the theme in the later parts
Easy identification of the flow of events in the second half

    Verdict
Without any doubt, we need to appreciate the 7am Arivu team for coming up with such a novel theme and attempting to create an awareness about the Tamil Heritage & Indian culture. Suriya’s effort, A.R Murugadoss’s research, Ravi K Chandran’s camera everything needs a special mention. But all such efforts become utter vain as the film fails to engage the audience completely. We believe that A.R Murugadoss’s confusion of whether to make a Science Fiction or a Commercial film could be the cause. He should have taken a leaf out of the book How To Make A HiTech Scientific Fiction But Yet A Commercially Successful Movie Like Dasavatharam authored by K.S Ravikumar.

  20. Murugan AS says:

With Suriya and A R Murugadoss coming together after Ghajini, expectations were sky high. Interestingly the Ghajini team including cinematographer Ravi K Chandran and music director Harris Jeyaraj in the scheme of thing has made 7 Aum Arivu, the most sought-after film. The biggest question now is whether the movie lives up to all hyoe and hoopla?
Partially yes would be reply. The movie chronicles the journey of Pallava prince Bodhi Dharman who ventured to China and established Shaolin, a form of martial art. How his deeds help save the mankind in 21st century is what the movie is all about.
The movie begins in sixth century AD and Bodhi Dharman (Suriya), a Pallava prince goes to China from Kanchipuram. He teaches martial arts and is considered the founder of Shaolin. After his demise, he is worshipped as Tao by all in China. The story now comes to present.
Aravindh (Suriya), a circus artiste falls for Suba Sreenivas (Sruthi), a research student. Aravindh and Suba become thick pals and the former falls for SUba’s charm. Meanwhile, he comes to know that Suba has some motive behind her acts.
Also a sequence of events reveal that Chinese government is planning to unleash harm to India by planning Operation red and sens one Dong Lee (Johnny Tri Nguyen), a matrtial arts expert to Chennai. He is instructed to kill Suba for Chinese government fears that her research on Bodhi Dharman would hinder all their plans.
Suba comes to know that Bodhi Dharman was forefather of Aravindh and finds out that both DNA their matches. Now her task is bringing to life the heroics of Bodhi Dharman through Aravindh to thwart the plans of Chinese government. How they accomplish the task is what the movie is all about.
Suriya has done extremely good job. He is at his best as circus artiste. His hard work is visible in every frame. As Bodhi Dharman, he has given his heart out.
Sruthi makes a good debut. She gets a meaty role to perform. Johnny Tri Ngyuen, the Vietnamese star does the entrusted to him well. As villain, she has done his part exceedingly well.
A R Murugadoss has done his part well ably supported by Ravi K Chandran’s cinematography while Harris Jeyaraj’s peppy music add zing to the proceedings. Rajeevan’s art direction is good
No doubt, 7 Aum Arivu is a different story. But what predictable sequence mars the flow.If Ghajini impressed us, 7 Aum Arivu though grand and rich is no match to it.

  21. 7 am Arivu – there were talks of how the Bodhidharman scenes would be the highlight of the movie – showing Suriya in a look that we have never seen before.

The movie however starts off like a documentary and the morose commentary does not do any good either.

The same information could have been told in bits and pieces in appropriate times. There were umpteen places where the information on Bodhidharman could have been inter-woven with the story instead of having the almost 30 minute long section at the beginning of the scene.

A suspense could have been built as to why a hit man should be sent from China to India to kill a research student.

Sruthi’s character (Subha), when she reveals the reason for seeking out Suriya’s character Aravind would have been an apt time to reveal about Bodhidharman, upto his visit to China. And when she learns about the deadly disease – it would be an appropriate time to show how he was a medic and helped to cure the deadly disease in China. And when she says about “Nokku Varmam” the scene where Bodhidharman deals with an enemy army could have been inserted.

And when the Chinese Shaolin temple monk tells the hitman to return to China and when he replies that he had been killed off in China – would have been an apt time to have the end of Bodhidharman being shown.

The content and premise for the movie are quite unique – but the editing (placement of scenes) would have accentuated the film.

Since the Buddhist monk look was unique – it could have been shown in pieces throughout the film and in proper places to show how he was relevant in the current situation and how he would be helpful. That way – we would not have to remember the first half an hour and the first half an hour would not have to pan out like a documentary, but would gel with the movie.

A bit more scenes of Aravind the circus artist performing the acts in the circus would have also been interesting – since Suriya has himself done these acts.

    Cute Scenes –
When Aravind arranges to return Subha’s phone – he arranges to give a flower and a chocolate for the first and second letter of her name and then meets her in a restaurant in the same mall. However she has to leave immediately and she leaves behind the chocolate and flower

When Aravind the circus artist takes the elephant to a doctor – Subha sees him on the way and he offers her a “lift” on the elephant.

In the bus stop, Aravind takes a look at the recorded videos in Subha’s phone and on learning that she also has feelings for her – he shouts out in the middle of the night and wakes her up. And there is an awkward silence between the two when he returns the phone to her, stammering that there was a message.

    Awesome scenes
The presentation scene for the thesis -where Subha gives a piece of her mind while responding to sarcastic comments on basing her research on old Tamil writings.

When the Chinese hit-man follows Aravind and Subha to finish them off – there is a scene when he hypnotizes – first the auto driver to commit hara-kiri, then a lorry driver to mow them down and this goes on for about 5 minutes – in the midst of heavy traffic and destruction many car drivers, motor cyclists – being hypnotized and trying to ram their car of bikes to finish them off.

Overall a film that can be watched at least once – for the unique story and lead pair, as also for Murugadoss (who makes a blink and you miss appearance, though he does get carried away in the end trying to be preachy).

Big list for 7am Arivu star Surya!!!

Though 7am Arivu has won mixed reactions from the box office, Surya’s performance in the movie as Bodhidharman, a Buddhist monk and Aravindh, a circus artiste has won the admiration of all.

He is getting positive reviews and Surya is literally on cloud nine. Meanwhile Surya is likely to team up with director Hari and Venkat Prabhu for his forthcoming films after completing Maatran with director K V Anand.

After the super hit Nandha and Pithamagan, Surya is likely to team up with National award winning director Bala again for the third time. According to sources, the initial talks are on and the actor is keen to work with Bala again.

At a multiplex in Chennai, on Tuesday evening AR Murugadoss and Udhayanidhi were present on the occasion to interact with fans and film-buffs. The movie which chronicles the life of Bodhidharman, a Pallava prince who went to China, has however received a mixed response from critics.

  25. Dilly Raja says:

    7am Arivu,Velayudham and Ra.one-Unbelievable dewali race!!!

After a long time, this Diwali was a remarkable day in Kollywood history. Yes of course, Superstar Rajinikanth’s ‘Thalapathy’ and Ulaganayagan Kamal Haasan’s ‘Gunna’ made history in Tamil Cinema- diwali releases. After many years these movies of 7am Arivu ,Velayudham and Ra.One creates such a mass for this Diwali.

People those who didn’t mind about the rain, they didn’t mind about the rush. They all are in rush to see the movies. This Diwali was a great day. 7am Arivu and Velayudham both are tamil movies, so there is a messing between these two movies. There is nothing special in that. But Ra.One also messing with 7am Arivu and Velayudham , this is because of Rajinikanth’s cameo in Ra.One.

Not only Shakrukh Khan’s fans but also Rajinikanth’s fans are also watching this movie Ra.One. So all these three movies are rocking on the screen . We have to wait for some time to watch which wil wins the race.

  26. 7am Arivu, Velayudham and Ra.One-which will win the race!!!

Surya, Shruti Haasan starrer 7am Arivu, the much awaited movie released on this Diwali is rocking in the mega screens. Expecting that this will be in the Box office for long time. AR Murugadoss hard work is lighted in each and every frame. Not only AR Murugadoss but also Surya, Shruti Haasan and other technicians work also shines well in 7am Arivu. It’s a movie about a Tamizhan so everyone should watch this film.

Velayudham – unexpected result for the Vijay featuring Velayudham. Genelia, Hansika and Saranya Mohan who share the screen with Vijay. Velayudham is messing with the 7am Arivu. Jayam Raja, director of this movie is admires about the result. The unexpected result. Such a great work. Vijay dreams comes true in this film. It’s the movie silently supporting Anna Hazare.

Ra.One- Actually Ra.One is the dubbed version of Hindi Ra.One. Shahrukh Khan, Kareena Kapoor featuring in this Ra.One. The BGM, audio, Effects are rocking. The second movie in Tamil related with robots. After Enthiran , Ra.One is about the story of Robots.Priyanka Chopra and our Superstar Rajinikanth cameo in Ra.one adds flavour.

These three movie are messing with one another. Lets wait and see, which movie will be on Box office for a long time. It’s like a star war. Who will win the race? is the great question..

  27. 7Aam Arivu – A colossal disappointment!

Suriya and Shruti Hassan’s film is fantastic but is let down by poor execution by director Murugadoss

At one point in Murugadoss’ ambitious Deepavali release 7Aam Arivu, Suriya and Shruti Haasan get into an autorickshaw in Chennai and the driver does the unthinkable. He flicks down the meter. In Chennai. An auto driver. It is at this point that you realise that Murugadoss is operating in the realm of pure fantasy. In terms of plotline, it is fantastic but is let down by poor execution. What could have been a great action thriller is reduced to a preachy, turgid, bloated bore in Murugadoss’ incapable hands. Perhaps it is because he didn’t have a storyline to borrow from as he did with Christopher and Jonathan Nolan’s Memento script for Ghajini.

The film begins 1600 years ago in Kanchipuram, part of the Pallava kingdom, where the ruler Bodhi Dharman (Suriya) is preparing to leave for China in order to stop a deadly disease originating there from reaching India. In China, the locals initially treat Bodhi Dharman with hostility, but this soon turns to respect when he concocts a cure for a disease that makes people break out in fatal suppurating sores. Respect turns to adulation when Bodhi Dharman singlehandedly displays an awesome range of martial arts in defeating a gang of bandits, his party trick being hypnotising them into turning on one another. Bodhi Dharman imparts his medicinal and martial arts wisdom to the Chinese, spends the rest of his days in the country and is interred there upon his death.

Back in the present day, the Chinese government has hatched a dastardly plot to destabilise India. They send Dong Lee (Vietnamese martial arts star Johnny Nguyen) to spread the ancient 1600-year-old virus in India and then have the upper hand when India begs them for the cure, something that only the Chinese have thanks to Bodhi Dharman. The only person who can stop them is genetic engineer Subha Sreenivasan (Haasan) who has access to Bodhi Dharman’s DNA, which when matched with those of his descendant Aravind (Suirya again) will create the only person who can foil Lee.

It is here that the film goes off the rails and never recovers. For, logically as every scientist does, Subha pretends to fall in love with Aravind, who for some reason is a circus worker, so that she can inveigle him into helping with her research. What follows is a love story spanning an hour of screen time, including three songs, intercut with pointless and pedantic explanations of the DNA matching process. Haasan supposedly plays a native medicine doctor’s daughter from Thanjavur, but her Tamil accent and diction sounds like she’s just jetted in from another planet, struggling as she does with complicated polysyllabic words.

This being a Deepavali release starring Suriya, one would expect him to feature in a crowd-pleasing larger than life role. Though the actor tries gamely enough and is always a pleasure to watch, he is let down by a script that curiously has him being reactive rather than proactive for the entire middle stretch of the film. When he finally does face off to Lee after spending much of the film running away from him, the resulting encounter is rather tame. And when Murugadoss adds in liberal doses of Tamil jingoism and bemoans India’s brain drain to the West continuously, the film descends into the realm of a ‘message movie’ something that director Shankar (Sivaji, Endhiran) does far better. Pity. There were the makings of a good commercial film in there somewhere.

  28. TVS Thirumal says:

  30. 7am Arivu opens big!!!

7am Arivu has emerged the talk of the town. Though slated for Dewali, the movie was released on Tuesday evening itself at several screens to packed houses.

The movie chronicles the life of Bodhidharman, a Pallava prince who went to China. It is the debut venture of Sruthi Haasan who plays a scientist and a lady love to Surya.

7am Arivu has received mixed response form critics. However, the pre-booking is full. lets see how the film fares in the coming days.

  31. At last watched the film after received positive review frm my frens. But how wrong they are!!

History portions r excellent, after tat the film getting bored… unwanted songs n over hype…
Songs all nice to hear but not sink with the situation. Shruthi hassan looks like a kid n reli not suit for this character. She never utter dialogues with the lively n no facial expression.

Surya sir as usual, done his part prefectly. He potrait damo character perfectly.

Johnny lacking in acting. No facial expression n he more looks like a innocent hero instead of villain.
He kills ppl thru mesmerism. He using the same method to all. Again a repetition. Director : No creativity enough.

Murugadas sir! what happen to u? poor editing… screenplay…over graphics in climax scenes ….unwanted fights….

Overall ; Excellent idea but poor story telling… Redo again

    Dissapointment:(
