After accepting the award, Vijay said that many people told him that they were hugely upset at Madarasapattinam not getting any national award. “As far as I’m concerned, the film was appreciated as a ‘very good film’ by K. Balachander, which is more valuable than any award(s). The fat that I’ve been honoured in the same stage in which K. Balahander had been honoured makes the award even more memorable,” he said.
