Movie: Mankatha
Star Cast: Ajith, Arjun, Trisha, Vaibhav Reddy, Lakshmi Rai, Andrea, Premji Amaren and Anjali.
Director: Venkat Prabhu
Story: Venkat Prabhu
Music: Yuvan Shankar Raja
Banner: Sun Pictures, Cloud Nine Movies
Producer: Dhayanidhi Alagiri
Ajith, the ‘King of Box Office Openings‘ has once again proved that he is THALA. Mankatha is an Ajith movie all the way. Venkat Prabhu has been a worthy director to Ajith and given the actor a strong and interesting movie. It is sure to make Ajith fans very happy to see their star in a different role.

Arjun has excelled in his role and proves that he is truly the Action King. Yuvan Shankar Raja‘s music, especially the background score adds to the thrill of the movie.
Ajith‘s 50th film didn’t happen at an ease for the actor took a very long time and scrutinizing efforts to choose the best one. Initially, he was supposed to work with Gautham Vasudev Menon and it failed due to some difference of opinions. The actor later had discussions with more filmmakers including directors Vijay, Vishnuvardhan and many more. In fact, ‘Billa-2′ was supposed to be his 50th film.
But finally, ‘Mankatha‘ as the title suggests happened on the game of probability as Venkat Prabhu didn’t have Ajith in mind while penning the script. Ajith had personally requested Venkat Prabhu to get ready with a script that features him in a negative role. Of course, everything was finalized during 11th hour.
‘Mankatha‘ produced by Dayanidhi Azhagiri and Vivek Rathinavel under the banner name of Cloud Nine Movies had some problems pertaining to the release of this film. But then, Sun Pictures got into the picture uniting both Cloud Nine Movies and Sun Pictures together.
Today, the film opens bigger with more prints and screens across the globe. To mention about Venkat Prabhu‘s directorial style in this film, he has stepped far away from his previous movies. Unlike ‘Chennai 600028‘, ‘Saroja‘ and ‘Goa‘, this film has a serious theme running in the backdrops laced with thriller and action.
The film is about 4 young criminals – Vaibhav Reddy, Ganesh, Mahat and Premji Amaran looking out to swindle the big sum of Rs.500Crores for IPL betting. These rookies are into a big plan of looting the currencies, but they become directionless with the entry of Vinayak (Ajith), a police officer suspended for 6 months in service. Four become Five and they all go ahead with new plans, but everything doesn’t go as planned as the characters start playing ‘Mankatha‘ among them. Meanwhile, there is a special CBI officer Prithviraj (Arjun) appointed for trapping the bookies and soon are on the hunt of these off the field players trying to loot the money.
Venkat Prabhu usually loves making multi-starrer movies, which is noticeable from his first film and even this one as we know earlier boasts of bigger star-casts. Ajith is outstanding with his performance and he makes sure of entertaining his fans to the core. He has shown keen interest over the dance, action, sense of humour, etc.

Trisha doesn’t get more screen space to share with Ajith. But her portions with Ajith are good and her looks are enchanting. Lakshmi Rai appears for couple of songs and scenes. Action King Arjun is awesome as actor Vijay said he would have easily accepted this role, if Venkat Prabhu had approached him first. Vaibhav and Aravind Akash are good with their own style while Premji Amaran tries evoking laughter in his own style. Anjali looks beautiful and nothing else to say about her performance as her role is minimal.
Yuvan Shankar Raja scores well with songs and background score. The songs are pictured very well and the scenes are top-notching with Sakthi Saravanan‘s cinematography. Editing by Praveen is fantastic.

On the whole, ‘Mankatha‘ has some slow moments during first half, but as the story proceeds during second half, it has gripping moments with an unexpected climax.
With Sun Pictures vigorously promoting the film and no big contenders ahead, the film will go successfully.
Verdict: A Brilliant Mankatha Game

HOT! 10 best moments of Mankatha
There should always be more enjoyable moments for a high profile entertainer in movies. since it reaches the audience of different levels of expectations and tastes it is not essential that such a film should endorse the votes of all. The director may try to apportion the major constituents of the script to suit the shooting and quite particular, the protagonist or to say, the hero. But when for a movie having the relics of the hero in antagonistic approach it is very natural that the director’s task needs some reverse gear to move the wagon. This is what happens when we watch Mankatha with Ajith being portrayed in his unusual foray for a hero.
Top 10 moments watching Mankatha
Of course, Ajith himself has preferred to admit that his anti-heroic deed always paid rich dividend as happened in Vaali, Varalauru et al. hence we can easily presume that Ajith intended to excel with his involvement and dedication to break the ice in his own style. In the movie, as the title reflects, he plays the game with ease, classy and thumbnail scenic actions. Here’s a list of top 10 moments that audience could cherish while watching Mankatha.
Plot to finish off the gang
Normally the hero will devise his plans to take vengeance on the villainy or to thwart the ruffian deeds of the gangster. But in this movie, Ajith (as Vinayak Mahadev) delves into scoops of plans to take on the gang of Ashwin, Vaibhav, Mahat and Premji. As this moment is revealed before the interval we are all set to get ourselves into the trail of knowing the consequences.
Intro song – Vilayadu Mankatha
If there should be a hero of mass, the introduction should also be of classy and peppy. Here the director has set the tempo with the title song itself. To add more rhythm, Ajith’s dance among the crowd in a fumy environment sets the tone of party swing. The pace of the dance is the cult for this moment as it invokes lot of information that would follow in the movie.
Style with Cigarette
If Superstar Rajnikanth won fame for his style of picking the cigarette to his lip by throwing, here in the film Ajith makes a stylistic smoking. As with his real life temperament, the slow puffing is the attractive ( of course for his fans) and it is more amazing to watch him retain the ash of the smoke even after more puffs.
Ajith’s boldness to take on the police get up
In the Tamil cine field, there a few artists for whom the police get up will be perfect suit. This is for the physique they posses and the dialogue delivery. For Ajith, the physique may look odd for this police costume yet it takes the stride. There are similar police officials in the department who don’t care about their physique and the outlook. Ajith’s neglect of his heroic look by retaining the salt and pepper outlook is a real challenge for the hero of his caliber.
Logo for Thala’s 50th movie
Normally for a product to sell in the market or the company to withstand in the market from the rest logo is the most important element. For Mankatha, Venkat Prabhu was more conscious to focus the prominence of the film – 50th for Thala. Keeping the moment, Prabhu devised the logo in a formalistic way.
Rides and stunt stints with superbike
For a hero to depict his heroism the director may involve any sort of superiority. Since Ajith is a professional biker, Venkat Prabhu followed suit by allocating road stunts. Even at the time of shooting, it was mentioned that everyone in the unit was amazed to watch Thala riding the superbike at a reckless speed of 200 km/hr. as bike plays a revolving role in the scene, Ajith’s wheeling stunts are awesome to watch which no other hero would dare to do.

Climax and unraveling the truth with breaking the suspense
For a film to change the tempo the climax should reveal the truth or take the audience to surprise with usual or unusual twists. Here in Mankatha, Venkat Prabhu has made the climax just to please the fans of Thala thereby taking him to the real outlook. The suspense is broken in a more charismatic manner with Thala appearing in a grand manner.
Daring act with Jayaprakash, Trisha’s father
When we said, Thala is enthusiastic and comfortable for this anti-hero episodes, even the human relationships with his familiar people are no exceptions. Though he has the guts and hugs with Trisha, he does not mind to push Trisha’s father Jayaprakash, out of the car. This he does after fully aware that Trisha is watching his acts. The gruesome act from a romantic hero which, again, no other hero would accept to perform.
Thala’s dance in Machi Open the Bottle
For an item number with lot of energy, the music is expected to kindle the effect of joy. In the song Machi Open the Bottle, the huge chunk of dancers could not diminish the intermittent appearance of Ajith and his dance to the tunes. Really the top class notch for this movie.
End Credits
Very few film Tamil films are worth (standing) waiting at the theaters to watch the end Credits. Mankatha is one such film. Thala’s unexpected dance at the photoshoot with Arjun, “Innoru Dhaba Sollu” dialog, Vaibhav’s “Naan Adikkala Naan Adikkala”, Premji’s Endhiran-Repeat – Enna Yaarlum Alikka Mudiyathu are all highly fun to watch and was well received by the audience.
Conclusion
It is true that there are so many other moments in the movie which are also noteworthy for their significance. But we can sort them out of our priority and which could be approved by the mass. Mankatha is a complex movie with so many ifs and buts. So there could be a final verdict about the movie’s moments. Of the whole watching moment, the movie takes us to a different situation and it takes long time to stop our discussion about the movie. In recent years, no such movie has made this kind of opening in the Kollywood and has enabled the audience to watch a movie worth their money and time.
The game still continues with the puzzle from Thala – Onna Anjakkarathu Perusa, Naala Anjakkarathu Perusa!! Mankatha Da!!

Have you read ‘Mankatha Music Review’ before?

2. Vilayaadu Mankatha (Remix)
For those, who were feeling that the song is slow-tempo, it’s time to get ready for the celebration as the techno beats will send you high in spirits. It’s sure to rock the party floors.
3. Theme Music
Yuvan Shankar Raja always gives best when it comes to Theme music. Especially, when it’s Ajith Kumar on the screens, he makes sure that the matinee idol is delineated with his overpowering spell. This theme gives a feel of Desi James Bond version and will become the most favourite hello tune of everyone in town.
4. Machi Open the Bottle – Vocals: Mano, Premgi Amaren, Tippu, Haricharan, Naveen
Obviously, when the first look posters of the film were released and the song ‘Vilayaadu Mankatha’ was up to the elite level, the mass audiences might have felt that there is nothing to cater to their tastes. If you were brimmed with same assumptions, then you’re wrong. This song will throw huge party in the theatres as it will be a big treat for the frontbenchers. Special Attraction – Thala will shake legs in an unforeseen manner.
5. Nanbane – Vocals: Madhushree, Yuvan Shankar Raja
Get ready for the most melodious duet of this year. Yuvan Shankar Raja picks up the mike to give his best. In fact his portions are done in his own unique panache. Madhushree sounds like Sadhna Sargam in few parts. The lyrical lines are more than enough to attract the female audiences. Good or Bad – A girl doesn’t care anything about her man with whom she is in love with.
6. Nee Naan – Vocals: SP Charan, Bhavatharani
It’s a kind of melodious duet possessing the traits of Isaignani Ilayaraja. SP Charan and Bhavatharani make together a perfect match in song and it kindles our senses to look out for the visuals.
7. Vaada Bin Laden – Vocals: Krish, Suchitra
The techno beats and the sassy voice of Suchitra stands out as the major highlight. It may take some more time for the song to brew up and get its best among the audiences.
On the whole, ‘Mankatha’ has Yuvan Shankar Raja spelling his best for Ajith. The actor gets the most stunning tunes for his 50th film and it’s time for Ajith Kumar fans to celebrate.

The 500 crore Dream of Thala: Venkat Prabhu Interview to Kungumam
‘Naanum Yetthanai Naalaikkuthan Nallavana Nadikiradhu’ – It might be quite a different and unusual dialogue, but it has already become the punch of town, especially with ‘Thala’ fans. ‘This is the uniqueness of the character’ says director Venkat Prabhu as he sheds more light into the film.
‘This is really a fact as the dialogues suits very much to his character in ‘Mankatha’ and in comparison with his previous movies. In ‘Vaali’, he had played dual roles in which one was a negative character. But in this one, he plays full-fledged negative character in this film….”
Adding more, he says, “This is one of the greatest milestones in his career and it all happened in an unexpected way. Initially, I didn’t write this story with Ajith Kumar in mind. I wanted to make this script with my usual team. Soon as Thala got to know that I am doing a project for Cloud Nine Movies, he called up to congratulate me. During our conversation, he had a word asking me to prepare a script for me that will have him in negative role. He said that he is quite fed up playing stereotyped positive roles. Immediately I asked him, ‘Annae, This script is similar to the same concept. The film is about 5 characters amongst which 4 are baddies and the 5th one is too baddie. The project happened merely with a phone call. Off the late, when we were about to start the shooting, I narrated the script completely and he was very much impressed. No other actor would dare to choose negative role in his 50th film and it is possible only with ‘Thala’. Even the look of grey hairs is something no other actor would choose to appear with and Ajith Kumar has done it with panache looking like a Hollywood actor.”
Speaking about Thala’s friendliness with other 4 actors, who belong to Venkat Prabhu team, he said, “While my boys were literally confused whether Thala would be friendly with them, it turned out to be something unexpected. Thala became so friendly with my guys and in special, Premgi became his pet. Everyone knows about the Biryani he was preparing.”
It is worth mentioning most of the Venkat Prabhu’s films have a strong link with ‘Cricket’. Ask him about it and he says, “Yes, Chennai 60028 had the guys involved in cricket while in ‘Saroja’ it is about the guys heading to watch a match. Again, ‘Mankatha’ has a connection with Mankatha. But here guys don’t to play cricket, but it’s into a different area and about betting.”
Trisha plays an important role in the movie and her part will be exceptionally special as it leaves Thala to change his route of action. The film is about a group that has a dream of making Rs. 500Crores money. While everyone in the film are merely of negative characters, Action King Arjun will give a surprise to everyone appearing in negative role. Apart from Trisha, Lakshmi Rai, Anjali and Arjun have done a great job. There are many more interesting surprises in the film and you’ll have to wait only for few days to watch this action-thriller.”

thala na summa illa mankatha daa…
Ajith‘s film release is always an event. Of course, the actor has huge fans following him across the globe. There have been more reasons why the film has been generating huge waves right from Day 1 of shooting. Much more than the reason that ‘Mankatha‘ happens to be Ajith‘s 50th film, what made the towns filled with excitements was the reason that Thala is playing negative role in the movie.
There have been yet more reasons why the film was hitting headlines persistently. Changing hands of production as almost all the top production houses eyed on the project. The other factors were the team and the ensemble star-casts.
We bring you the first exclusive review of the most expected film Mankatha.
The film opens with police officer Vinayak suspended for saving Faizal from bunch of cops. Then there is a serious issue running down the lane of Mumbai about bookies and match fixing and CBI officials led by Prithviraj on the track behind them. Meanwhile a group of youngsters – Sumanth, Ganesh, Mahat, and Prem hatches a plan to loot the betting money of Rs.500 Crores. They have a perfect plan, but things take a turn when Vinayak joins them.
When it’s an Ajith‘s film, what more can you expect other than the actor’s style and trademarks. ‘Mankatha‘ establishes more off the Ajith‘s style, but doesn’t reminiscence of some of his recent movies ‘Billa’, ‘Aegan’ and ‘Aasal’, where it didn’t have more verbal works for the actor, but his ramp walks. This one has lots of new stuffs from ‘Thala’ as he steps into a different role. Say for instance, there is no transformation from Bad into Good and he is ‘Bad’ right from beginning till the end. He has no mercy, compassion, affection, Love and what an usual Tamil hero has for the other characters in the film.
‘Money, Money, Money, Money…’ it’s everything for him.
Well during the point of intermission, the audiences might feel quite puzzled over the protagonist revealing all his plans about finishing the game. But the ‘Game isn’t over till the final credits’. In fact, you’ll have no clue till the last 60secs of the film on what’s going on.
Ajith is awesome and his modulation in voice and utilization of Venkat Prabhu’s comedy sense. We had never seen Ajith using so much of profane language.
Don’t presume this film to be only for Ajith for each and every character in the film sways on with equal importance. Action King Arjun gets a meaty role much equivalent to Ajith and is over the top with his performance. Trisha doesn’t get a lengthy role, but looks beautiful and pretty charming. Lakshmi Rai doesn’t appear in more than 5 scenes. Premji Amaran scores well with his ‘Black Humour’. Mahat and Ganesh are okay with performances. Vaibhav does justice to his role and he emotes exactly to the surpassing degrees. Anjali is merely used for romantic portions and so is Andrea.
The greatest highlight of the film is last 40mins of the film that will make you laugh, move you to the edge of seats and finally walk out of theatres with invigorated spirits. Don’t miss the behind the scenes bloopers during final credit that will throw huge surprise to the audiences. The first half is filled with the establishment of characters while the second half is a roller coaster ride with lots of twists and turns.
Technically, it’s Yuvan Shankar Raja rocking and rocking to the core. The songs are at its best with ‘Machi Open the Bottle’ turning to be the cherry pick of the album and so is title song ‘Vilayaadu Mankatha‘.
Cinematography by Sakthi Saravanan is top-notching and editing works by Praveen is crisp. Watch out for the scenes where we Ajith working inside his house, the multiple frame is spellbinding.
Thanks to Venkat Prabhu for making Ajith‘s 50th film so special. Our final verdict – ‘Mankatha‘ is the best of all 50 movies in Ajith‘s career.
The film isn’t just for Ajith fans, but for the universal audiences.
50th film for ajith will be a super hit movie in 2011…. mangatha daaaaaaaaaa…
This is a festive week; It is ramzan, Ganesh Chathurthi and yes.. Mankatha. It is going to be Worship, Food and Good entertainment. With Just one more day left for open the bottle, Expectations are soaring Sky high for Mankatha; Trailers rocking in Sun Channels every ten minutes , the General public is busy scouting tickets for the first festival opening week end. Mankatha is clearly the talk of the town.
Kollywood is astonished on how thala could manage such a grand opening of Mankatha in spite of dissolving the fan clubs. With almost all tickets sold out for the first opening Long week end, thala has proved the point that his fans will adore him even without fan clubs
What we are to remind you now, will only raise it even more among Ajith’s fans, for director Venkat Prabhu has a different kind of surprise to fans through Ajith’s 50th offering to Tamil cinema .Venkat Prabhu is popular to keep audience glued to the screens till the very end of the movie, including the end credits where he showcases some interesting and funny happenings from the sets of his movie.
Venkat Prabhu will broadcast his stars funny bloopers at the sets in the end credits of ‘Mankatha’ as well! This will be the first time ever that fans will get to see Ajith’s bloopers in his film! Venkat Prabhu expressed to his tweet pals saying, “End credits of Mankatha will be extraordinary (extraordinary) than my previous movies!!! U guys can catch Thala`s bloopers for the very 1st time”
A blooper is a short sequence of a film or video production, usually a deleted scene, containing a mistake made by a member of the cast or crew. It is usual to what we used to see at the end of any Jackie Chan’s Movie .Please don’t miss to watch the 4 minute End credits after the movie is complete. The End Credits will showcase how jovial Thala is.
Mankatha is a long but interesting Movie. The film will run for 2.45 hours (Usually Tamil movies are 2.10 minutes to 2.30 minutes).
Get ready folks, Mankatha is going to be Evil and SeXY

Game on in Ajith style
It’s Ajith’s 50th venture. What more it s directed by Venkat Prabhu with betting scandal in cricket as its theme. A huge star cast including Trisha, Arjun among others raised all expectations. Thats Mankatha. Lets check out the review.
Story
Mankatha is a racy and adrenaline-rushing story of a Maharshatra police officer Vinayak Mahadevan (Ajith) who is suspended for helping a smuggler to escape from police encounter. He starts leading life in his own way. He falls for Sanjana (Trisha), daughter of an influential local goon Arumuga Chettiyar (Jayaprakash) in Mumbai. A tough cop Prithvi (Arjun) takes charge to end betting scandal in IPL cricket in Mumbai. Arumuga uses his links with dons in Mumbai tries to route through his old theatre , a cash of over Rs 500 crore to be used in betting.
Sumanth (Vaibhav), a goon working for Arumuga Chettiyarplans to take away the booty with the help of his friends Ganesh (Ashwin), Mahanth (Mahanth), who owns a bar in Mumbai and Prem (Premji), a IIT graduate. Vinayak joins the race. he promises to help them and divide it between them. Trouble starts after they take away the acsh. Both Arumugha Chettiyar and police are now on their heels. Meanwhile, Mahanth and Prem escape with the cash. It all upto Vinayak now. The battle shifts between him and Prithvi.
Performance
Its Ajith all the way. He is simply amazing in the role of a dreaded baddie. With his usual looks sans makeup, he hogs all limelight. His one-liners brings laughter. Arjun does the role of a cop once more. But he is charming here. Trisha and Lakshmi Rai does play their part well. Andrea as Arjun’s wife and Anjali in the role of Vaibhav’s wife do minuscule roles.Vaibhav gets a meaty role and he utilise the opportunity. Premji did what he did in Goa and Chennai 28.
Technicalities
It is technically well-made. Sakthi Saravanan’s lens captures the stunts well. It forms the backbone of the movie. Yuvan Shankar’s tunes add variety to it. His open song Mankatha…is celebrated in theatres. Director Venkat Prabhu seems to have done his part well. He has laced thrills, spills and humour in right mix.
Analysis
Mankatha is boyish film. It is all racy and rivetting. The first half is light and simple. The game really begins in latter part. With Venkat Prabhu and Ajith giving their best, Mankatha rocks all time.
Mark – 3.5/5

The film portrays the mafia gambling that happens during a cricketing season of Indian Premier League (IPL). Ajith’s fans are quite excited about his comeback and if reports are to be believed, Mankatha an absolute entertainer for the masses.Trisha plays Ajith’s love interest while Vaibhav Reddy, Lakshmi Rai, Andrea Jeremiah, Premji Amaren and Anjali play other pivotal roles. Action King Arjun role is said to be highlight of the film since he is playing a cop who is behind Ajith.
Venkat with Ajith is all set in the movie for the chase of a world wide game which turned as a business. But business is just business untill it turns personal. A war on survival, competition, full on rules and regulations, all this for one Reason – Money Money Money . Change in rules will make the game to take it’s deadly nature.Moving on the movie will introduce us with five strangers who plan for a heist who plays the key role in the movie making the story movie revolve around Money. Who are these strangers, where does the money come from, who gets the money at the end of this game, answering all this falls on the crux of the movie.Peppy rocking numbers from Yuvan’s keyboard which contains eight tracks are not mush in visual.

Ajit acting was superb…. Arjun roll equal to Ajit…. Simply the best tamil action movie of the year… The movie is better than Billa and Enthiran………. My rating is 4.5/5……
* Songs s**ks – Music as well as Cinematography
* Venkat Prabhu is incapable of directing movies for a Mass hero like Thala
* VP had sought fame & Publicity for Prem – STUPID and RIDICULES!
Venkat Prabhu already said that he had too many arguments with THALA during shooting – ask yourself why? (VP made THALA a stupid and he knew the movie will be a super sothappal.
Think a moment why Thala didn’t attend the Audio release? He know the songs are not that interesting as it was in Thala’s other movies!
Why thala didn’t come in public even for the movie release? Thala knew doing this movie was the biggest mistake he ever made!
Thala should NOT ACCEPT movies of small time directors!
Conclusion: Mangatha is a waste of time (Sucks big time) movie is like SAMBAR!

More confusing, not clear
Never saw like this movie
Some1 said its a thriller movie..well its utter rubbish. Overall movie is a big letdown. Too much of hype, metaphorically, the movie is like an empty vessel makes the most noise. Major dissapointment on Venkat’s direction role..Final Verdict : Bullshit
It’s a typical ajith movie!Thala rocks.
