A day after comedian Vadivelu lodged a complaint with the Chennai police seeking action against editor of a film-based website accusing the latter of threatening him and demanding Rs.45 lakhs from him, the editor in question has filed a complaint with the police against the comedian of failing to return the ‘Rs.4 lakhs’ paid to him for a purpose.
Vadivelu’s manager Shankar lodged the complaint against Selvakumar, editor of a website based on films, and sought ‘immediately’ action by the police. In the meantime, Selvakumar has lodged a fresh complaint against Vadivelu, accusing him of causing him ‘financial loss’ and ‘mental tension’ by backing away from a programme after promising to take part in it.
Vadivelu’s complaints had stated that the editor was threatening to publish false news about him in the Internet if he failed to pay him up. In his complaint, Selvakumar has said “Comedian Vadivelu was paid an advance of Rs.4 lakhs by Michael Khana hailing from Malaysia on the premise of taking part in a cultural evening arranged by Michael in Malaysia in the year 2007.
“Though he didn’t take part in the programme ultimately, he has not yet returned the advance amount of Rs.4 lakhs paid to him. Letters were sent to the then chief minister Kalaignar seeking his intervention in the matter but nothing concrete occurred. We got in touch with Vadivelu through the Indian High Commission in Malaysia but they met with no response from Vadivelu.
“Vadivelu’s act of committing and then backing out of the event had caused us losses to the tune of Re.1 crore. I have been permitted by (Malaysian) Government to file cases against Vadivelu. My complaint is based on this and I’m also submitting enough proof to support my claim that Vadivelu has cheated me,” said Selvakumar in his complaint and produced the video evidence showing Shankar, Vadivelu’s manager, holding talks with them.
