Though the people’s verdict to elect Vijayakanth & Sarathkumar to Assembly was out on May 13 itself, the two top actors of Tamil cinema officially sworn in as MLAs on Monday, during the first meeting of the 14th Assembly in Chennai.
Pro-Tem Speaker C K Thamizharasan administered the oath to the newly elected legislators, including Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa, DMDK president Vijayakanth & Akila India Samathuva Makkal Katchi chief Sarathkumar, who also happens to be the president of South Indian Film Artistes Association.
Another popular actor who sworn in as MLA on Monday was Arun Pandian, who was elected to the Tamil Nadu Assembly from Peravoorani constituency on a DMDK ticket.
Vijayakanth came to the Assembly complex along with 28 MLAs of his party. His party contested in 41 seats in the April 13 elections and won in 29 places. While Sarathkumar’s party won two out of two constituencies it contested.
