Engeyum Kaadhal (Love is Everywhere) is a 2011 Tamil romance film written and directed by Prabhu Deva that stars Jayam Raviand & Hansika Motwani in the lead roles. Featuring music by Harris Jayaraj, it was produced by Kalpathi S. Agoram and released on 6 May 2011. The story revolves around a girl living in France who loves a boy coming from India.

For the first time we have Prabhu Deva striking a different chord. His previous films ‘Pokkiri’ & ‘Villu’ were hardcore masala entertainers. ‘Engeyum Kadhal’ has superfluous romantic appeal without any essence of feeling that is required. Sorry to say! How come the producers of AGS Entertains blindly take up projects even without hearing the scripts? Except few films, most of them are really below average ones. ‘Engeyum Kadhal’ lacks momentum, the romantic feel that is needed desperately for such movies.

Prabhu Deva seems to have been much inspired by those Hindi rom-com flicks that don’t have anything attractive other than the colorful locations, music and adorable star-casts with whom both gender sexes will fall in love for.

11 months of serious business and one month of pleasure makes the life complete and perfect for Kamal (Jeyam Ravi). Then there is Kayalvizhi (Hansika Motwani), a cello player in Paris, who is so romantic and falls in love with him at first sight. But their ideas of ‘Love’ completely differ. Kamal doesn’t bank on commitments as he perceives to be a bigger complication while for Kayalvizhi; it’s a best thing in life. We are left with nothing to proceed with the storyline and that’s it as Prabhu Deva apes S.J Suryah’s introduction of ‘Kushi’.

Love can be defined in various dimensions, but what appeals straight to the heart of masses is the misunderstandings, egoistic clashes, etc, etc… The complete 2.05hours travels on the same storyline. The protagonist enjoys his time luring girls, but hates them say ‘I LOVE YOU’ and the complete second half goes the way of Hansika Motwani trying to irritate him with a climax that is so predictable.
Engeyum Kadhal Engeyum Kadhal Review

Hansika Motwani looks stylish, cute and sensuous, but she scores 1/5 on her performance while Jeyam Ravi doesn’t suit the space of romantic role. Suman is okay and Raju Sundaram trying on comedy is an annoying attempt. It’s puzzling to see why the brothers Prabhu Deva & Raju Sundaram are so concerned about ‘Farting’. Most of their films have comedy based on this clumsy thing as it was in ‘Pokkiri’ and ‘Aegan’.

Harris Jayaraj’s songs are dulcet melodies with ‘Dhimmu Dhimmu’ and ‘Engeyum Kadhal’ turning to be the cherry-picks while cinematography by Nirav Shah is blissful. Choreography for ‘Nangai’ is a special treat for the audiences.

On the whole, ‘Engeyum Kadhal’ doesn’t gratify the taste of audiences and it has fewer chances to survive in box office.

What works: Few portions in second half, Nangai, cinematography, locations, Prakash Raj cameo…

What doesn’t work: Performances, Screenplay, background score, Comedy portions…
