Director-actor K. Bhagyaraj, known as the ‘king of screenplay writing’, has called on upcoming and debutant directors to be humble and polite before achieving ‘something worthwhile’ in Kollywood and to maintain the humility even after achieving the elusive success.
“Like in cricket, one continues to learn in cinema till his/her last breath. Nobody can claim that he is the master of film-making. The disturbing trend, though, is that directors with hardly one or two hits under their belts, behave as if they have the world under their feet,” noted Bhagyaraj at a recent event.
“Every day you learn new things here (in the industry). We are all trying to innovate, explore and find out new things so as to surprise the audience with novel themes. We win some, lose time but the effort to shell out novel ideas should never die in a film-maker’s heart,” he noted.
He urged upcoming film-makers to keep their ears and eyes open to gather and put in their mind newer ideas every day. “I find the attitude of some directors, who have just one or two hits to their credit, amusing to say the least. Humility alone takes one to greater heights,” concluded Bhagyaraj, filled with his characteristic short stories.
