Sequential films are very rare in Tamil films unlike it is in Hollywood, Bollywood or elsewhere. In this backdrop, the decision to make ‘Billa-2’ starring Ajith in the lead has raised several questions than it has answered.
Ajith starred in the successful ‘Billa’ (directed by Vishnuvardhan) in 2008 and is now all set to star in the sequence ‘Billa-2’. ‘Billa’ itself was a remake of a Rajni hit in the early eighties, a film which catapulted Rajni to his superstar status from which he has not taken a step backwards.
Hinduja Group, one of the leading industrial powerhouses in India, would be producing the sequel ‘Billa-2’, it is said. Unlike the usual sequential films, the film won’t be a continuation to Ajith’s ‘Billa’ but would rather go back in time and dig into the circumstances which made Billa the ‘don of dons’.
Suresh Balaji, son of late Balaji who made the original Rajnikanth’s ‘Billa’, would be the associate producer of ‘Billa-2’. The sequential film, a first of its kind in Tamil films, would be directed by Chakri Taloti, who made the Kamal-starrer ‘Unnaipol Oruvan’ more than an year back.
