Tamil film industry has been travelling towards particular course from time to time. Glimpsing upon the trendsetting arenas, it was pure poignant romantic stories were young league of actors were chocolate-boys. Vijay, Madhavan, Ajith Kumar, Suriya and Vikram strode playing soft romantic characters. ‘Kadhal Kottai ‘, ‘Alaipayuthey’ and many more films were very much illustrious.
All of sudden, it was an overnight change as these actors donned the character of roughnecks. ‘Dheena’, ‘Run’, ‘Nandha’, ‘Dhool’, which was an absolute transition.
Now, it’s all about period films that has been catching haunting towns with its fever. Starting off with ‘Madharasapattinam’, the filmmakers in Kollywood are severely keen on making period movies. Director Vishnuvardhan has already completed working on script works for a period film that is set in backdrops of 12th Century. Director Vijay has again approached Ajith Kumar with a period film that is based on trade and commerce during pre-independence era. Vasantha Balan’s ‘Aravaan’ revolves around the lifestyle of nomad groups that existed during ancient times of civilization.
Let’s hope our filmmakers come up with their best efforts experimenting in this genre.
