Kamal to be felicitated by Kerala government on 22nd August

The Government of Kerala is arranging a grand gala function on the 22nd of August to honour ‘Ulaganayagan’ Kamal Haasan for his outstanding and continuing contribution to Indian cinema for the past fifty years. Readers might recall that the Union Government’s Information & Broadcasting Ministry arranged a similar function to honour Kamal in New Delhi more than a month back.

Kamal started off as an 8-year old boy when he started his sojourn with films as a child-artiste in the classic ‘Kalathur Kannamma’ in1959. He won the national award for the ‘best child actor’ for his performance in the film. He never looked back literally, acting in Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada and Hindi movies and sustaining himself over a long period of time against the likes Rajnikanth and Sivakumar.

The Kollywood Tamil film industry too organized an event to honour Kamal Haasan for the amazing record of completing 50 years in Kollywood. Kamal Haasan, unlike Rajnikanth, has acted in quite a few Malayalam movies. Rajnikanth is quite popular in Kerala (as it is the case all over the globe) but hadn’t done any Malayalam film as on date. On the contrary, Kamal’s tryst with the Malayalam film industry has deep roots.

Kamal Haasan’s fan clubs have reportedly been playing an active role in Kerala, indulging in all sorts of social activities pleasing the local populace. The event is slated to take place at the sprawling Chandrasekaran Nair Stadium in Thiruvananthapuram. Taking the lead, Chief Minister Achuthananthan will preside over the function.

Top Malayalam superstars including Mammootty, Mohanlal and Jayaram and Dileep besides a horde of actresses are expected to take part in the function.
