Success does many things to many persons. One of the things success does is that it makes the person popular and assures name and fame. The other side of the coin, though, isn’t as rosy: it makes the person the target of media attention and all of a sudden, rumours start doing rounds about him/her, catching them off gear.

Take the case of Oviya, who is basking in the glory of the success ‘Kalavaani’, of her debut film in Tamil. The film, produced at a low-budget and directed by newcomer Sargunam, has proved to be the surprise hit of the year for its classic portrayal of enmity between communities in the rural side and the flawless script.
Rumorus have already started appearing in the press that Oviya had in fact signed ‘Muthukku Muthaga’, a film to be directed by Rasu Mathuravan (of ‘Goripalayam’ fame), even before she took up the ‘Kalavaani’ assignment. Now that ‘Kalavaani’ has become a rousing success, reports say, Oviya has hiked her fee not twice but a whopping five times apparently to cash in on her popularity. One report even said that she had been ‘replaced’ by another newcomer in the film.
The Kerala-born Oviyaa, however, dismisses those rumours and says that she’s very much part of the film and that she had a ‘perfect understanding’ with Rasu Madhuravan. “Contrary to what appeared in the press, I signed ‘Muthukku Muthaga’ only after I took up the ‘Kalavaani’ assignment and as such, Rasu’s film would be my second film.
She is also doing ‘Sevanu’, which was launched last week. Though she’s been getting many offers, she isn’t going on a signing spree and backs her wisdom in selecting her roles.
Keep going, Oviyaa!
