Three years of expectations was worthy enough to keep all the buffs awaited for the music from academy award winner A.R Rahman. Finally, the wait is over and it’s worth the wait. Much prior to listening the song, make sure you don’t expect Rahman from striking the same chords. With ‘Enthiran’, the Madras Mozart has reached far beyond his usual limits of swapping to western techno. Most of the songs are based on such genres with peppy beats.
1. Puthiya Manitha
Vocals:S. P. Balasubramaniam, A. R. Rahman, Khatija Rahman
Lyrics: Vairamuthu
A warm welcome to new man – The Robot: Vairamuthu’s lyrical lines are focalized towards singing praises of ‘Endhiran’. The title songs from trio combo SPB-Rahman-Rajnikanth in previous albums have been more off ethnic music. This time, it’s completely surpassing on different levels. The complete song by crooned in robotic style and it’s sure to offer an awesome experience when heard on surround systems. Rahman’s daughter Khatija renders a verse and she is endowed with the best voice.
2. Kadhal Anukkal
Vocals: Vijay Prakash and Shreya Ghosal
Lyrics: Vairamuthu
A spanking romantic duet with best elements of music. Lots of fill-ins, crème de la crème rhythmic chords stroke on guitars, mild beats and of course the best singers on tracks. Maybe, the lyrics do slightly lack clarity and may soon get into your memories after constant hearings. The interludes have been well played and kudos for Rahman for sustaining the same rhythmic pattern. It’s a hat-trick for Vijay Prakash following the grand success of chartbusters ‘Hosanna’ and ‘Veera’.
3. Irumbile Oru Idhayam
Vocals: A.R. Rahman & Kash ‘n’ Krissy
Lyrics: Madhan Karky
English lyrics: Kash’n’Krissy
A classy techno streaks with continuous liners rendered by A.R. Rahman and Kash ‘n’ Krissy. Just imagine the combos of Supersonic beats with Rahman and the happening Kash ‘n’ Krissy on tracks – It’s marvelous. With the visuals, the song is sure to go ahead exceeding your expectations.
Shankar’s trait of visual grandiloquences is sure to make it yet more stunning. Kash ‘n’ Krissy stuns us with her chirpy and sensuous voice. Madhan Karky sets all his focus on drawing youth cohorts with his lyrics.
4. Chitti Dance Showcase
Vocal: Pradeep Vijay, Praveen Mani and Yogi B
Additional Arrangements and Programming: Praveen Mani
The best rappers are back in town. This time with a mind-blasting rap that would electrify your senses instantly. It’s been a very long time we heard the sensational fusion on live drums, carnatic vocals with change over feel with stringed instruments followed by whistling effects adding more intensity. Just as in previous numbers, most of the lines are orchestrated with robotic effects. Of course, you can feel the touch of Praveen Mani. Last time, the duo worked together for a stunning number was ‘Petta Rap’ in ‘Kadhalan’.
5. Arima Arima
Vocal: Hariharan & Sadhna Sargam
Lyrics: Vairamuthu
Additional Vocals: Benny Dayal, Naresh Iyer
Best of all the best ones in this album. The song has the aesthetic touch of A.R. Rahman as his uniqueness of great chorus, orchestration over trumpets and live instruments with fewer modifications over the vocalisms. Synch-leads played as fill-ins and War-Marching beats are the highlighting traits. Veteran Hariharan intonates with a majestic approach while Benny Dayal and Naresh on chorus part have done a marvelous job. The visual will emblazon the eyes with the best treats of grandioseness.
6. Kilimanjaro
Vocals: Javed Ali and Chinmayee
Lyrics: Pa. Vijay
Additional Vocal Arrangements: Clinton Cerejo
The lyrics seem to be quite odd and really wondering to hear such a versatile lyricist Vairamuthu penning such amateurish lines. A.R. Rahman has gone adhered to the African music in recent times. When most of the songs in his previous album ‘Raavanan’ had the African vocals and beats, the maestro establishes the same style in this song. Javed Ali carries the song with his best efforts while Chinmayee is hyperactive as her voice sounds abnormal.
6. Boom Boom Robo Da
Vocals: Yogi B, Keerthi Sagathia, Swetha Mohan, Tanvi Shah
Lyrics: Madhan Karky
Rahman brings the most energetic young singers to croon this fun-filled song on Robot. The instrumentals are extraordinary and the voices are the song’s USP. Sounds like a signature music and may appear during sequences of ‘Enthiran’ becoming hero of masses.
A.R. Rahman recreated his magic with Rajnikanth and Shankar with ‘Enthiran’. The songs tuned on extremely contrastive aspects from his previous albums may lightly sound to be different. But it’s his New Line of Music, savoring for the tastes of youth and kids. Naturally, as it happens with A.R. Rahman’s albums, it may take some more time for all the songs to become chartbusters.

Well, the mystery has begun to unravel. First, we were given stingy glimpses of the stills of the highly-anticipated Endhiran. Right there, our imagination spread its limitless wings, encouraged by the flamboyance of the photographs. And now, it’s time to get a taste of the movie’s music. Coming from A.R. Rahman, one is already set to listen to techno beats and snazzy rhythms. When the movie is titled Endhiran (which means Robot), we know there’s no room for the ordinary. Both expectations are thoroughly satisfied.
Produced by Sun Pictures, directed by Shankar, starring Rajinikanth and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, the songs of Endhiran are released under the Think Music label.
The album takes off with ‘Pudhiya Manidha’ in the voices of S.P. Balasubrahmanyam, A.R. Rahman and his daughter Khatija Rahman. In keeping with the futuristic theme of the movie’ the opening notes are very techno. A robotic rendering of the first verse is followed by slow strong chanting ‘Pudhiya Manidha Boomiku Va’. The song goes on to sing the praise of the Robot and it’s sublimity. When the pace gradually picks up, SPB’s vocals overpower the others’.
The next song is ‘Kadhal Anukkal’, a poetic love song in the voices of Vijay Prakash and Shreya Ghoshal. The mellifluous opening guitar strumming is simple yet soul-stirring. This is a typical ARR melody of the 2000s with pacey beats in the background and a gentle melody in the foreground. The first musical interlude with the distinctive note of bagpipes has a soothing feel to it, but when the techno beats surface in the second interlude, we are reminded that we are still in the Endhiran album! Needless to say, Vijay and Shreya bring soul to the composition – they always do!
‘Irumbilae Oru Idhayam’ is the next number. The lyrics are quite touching and bring out ‘the Robot with emotions’ angle. ARR has sung the song himself, and as always, arouses our emotions with finesse. You can’t miss the female voice singing ‘Super Sonic Super Star’ from time to time in the background. Once she even calls him ‘Robotic Hypnotic Super Star!’ The song has a heavy dose of quirky English lyrics and to top it all , we have a medium-pace rap from Kash ‘n’ Krissy that kind of grows on you.
What follows the heavily westernized number is the theme music, titled ‘Chitti Dance Showcase’, a very techno, speedy theme. It starts off with few lines of rap in English and quickly converts into quick-paced classical notes sung to heavy western percussion, a very interesting piece repeated a few times in the composition. The song has a heavy dose of electric drums; when the drums fall silent, they are replaced by a serene violin orchestra with a divine harmony.
‘Arima Arima’ opens with the royal rhythm of drums, like it’s marking the entry of an Emperor, in this case, Endhiran. While the chorus chants his praises, calling him even the Silicon Singam, there is a tinge of pain in the voice of Sadhana Sargam. The thuds of the drums continue all through the number, with Endhiran sounding every bit the tough guy in the voice of Hariharan. This majestic composition has a shade of melancholy, bringing out the contrast in the psychological mindsets of the characters.
While all these songs have an obvious attachment to techno beats and futuristic rhythms, the next song ‘Kilimanjaro’ is completely removed from these moods. Tribal beats and tribal chanting persist throughout the number without the slightest mention of Endhiran or anything robotic throughout. The lyrics are on the sensual side. The sound of the drums overpowers all other instruments in this number sung by Javed Ali and Chinmayi.
‘Boom Boom Robot-da’ is the last number in the album. This fully techno, upbeat number (sung by Krithi Sagathia, Swetha Mohan and Tanvi Shah, interspersed with Tamil rap by Yogi B) is a mish-mash of fast electronic sounds and a moderately paced tune. The lyrics reiterate the greatness of the robot and the unimaginable avenues it opens up for the development of humanity.

i only like kilimanjaro, arima arima… this album doesnt even have a indian feel to it, it sounds too hollywood… tamil fans are deffinetely going to be dissappointed, way too much use of instruments.. i expected a lot more from spb, he only sings 4 words or so… im praying to god the movie is going to be good pleaseee.. pokiri team failed the second time with villu, gilli team failed the second time with kuruvi… sivaji team… pleaseee dont fail
Just downloaded the song arima, arima… It sounded like Sorima, sorima!!! I stopped the entire download… Why should waste my bandlimit after listening to this shit……
Judas Rajini spits on tamil moviefans one more time!!!!
ARR can’t go low beyond this!!!
Let me add my two bits on this.
1. Right from Kadhalan days, the Hindi versions of Rahman’s songs have some
nonsensical lyrics, thanks to verbatim translation from Tamil.
Add to that, the fact that the original lyrics in Tamil themselves have some
snazzy and lightweight components.
2. A lot of folks tend to just lap up whatever Rahman comes up with.
This gives him a head start and makes his (sometimes) mediocre work also
look above average. It doesnt help that his competition does not push him often enough.
To be fair, that is not Rahman’s fault, and Rahman too has delivered fairly consistently.
3. I have always felt that Rahman’s strength is not in his tunes, but rather, in the clever integration of the tunes with a lot of instrumental music. Thus, while Ilayaraja (and other
maestros like S.D.Burman and Salil Chowdhary) created music, Rahman, in my opinion, synthesizes music.
Ilayaraja’s music is marked by simplicity, a quality that Rahman appears to lack, or seems to avoid purposefully.
My first reaction was “Ayyo Saaichuputaaingale !!!” Trash, absolute trash !! Even Thenisai Thenral Deva can come up with better music while he’s in the dump.
Anger and disappointment runs high, not so much with the “music” but with all the idiots branding this as yet another masterpiece.
Cannot agree more with you about how people lap up everything Rahman spits out these days. Placing this collection of noise in the category of music is a bloody disgrace.
Utterly intolerable piece of junk that deserves to played in torture cells !!
First points first, the music for Endhiran is not an easy one to create. I always knew this but I thought considering ARR’s techno wizardry (actually it’s not in the strict sense, but we all believe so because music production+technology in India is still in its nascent stage) I thought he could easily pull it off.
One can forgive him because doing a rajnikanth movie for Shankar’s grandeur mixed with Sci-Fi story isn’t that easy sound track to begin with considering that he is damn busy these days with all the tours and stuff and it’s foolish to expect master piece every time from his studio.
(Artists can’t escape this stage. I used to say Ilayaraja should not be judged now considering his unimaginable and humongous outpour of creativity in the past ( till 10 years back) but then that’s rubbish. If an artist created and made his work public we should judge and probably rip their work apart.
The difficulty is IR is a complete eccentric genius who just doesn’t seem to care about audiences anymore. Any true artist will enter a stage of creating their art for the sake of art and himself and not for the public anymore.)
But the most amusing and considerably bad is the fans of AR Rahman.
ARR just like Rajni has this humility surrounding him. (on an other note, I’ve read a recent article whether a few artists are humble so because that would increase their fame? or are they genuinely like that? considering many artists and scientists were not humble at all as they loathe the normal intelligence of the people) . When ARR is so much humble fans would connect to him emotionally too even forgiving his mediocre work. They would also come up with weird theories like “ARR songs grows on you with repeated hearings” etc. They would not use the same judgmental process for other musicians. that’s sad.
I would probably need time to give an opinion on this album. And you probably are making a mistake too by doing that. Wait on.
Boom Boom Robot and Kadhal Anukkal are hummable. Rest yet to listen to fully- but I’m not passing any judgement here on it. I can feel how you were inching to get your hands on this album, review it first (trash it first as you usually do) and put it on top of the search results when someone searches for it.. Nice try, but this way sometimes your quality isn’t very good.(Just as ARR’s quality isn’t too good sometimes)
Agree with the fact that his mediocre works are also taken to be good. But that as you know is true. It doesnt take much for him to churn out good tracks.
You know what, I know what you will do. Now you will wait for Enthiran to release, and a midnight-before post a “Enthiran- unwatchable excrement” blog out here, get maximum hits and trash commenters as usual.
There’s another thing I would like to say- why don’t you review all of Rajni’s recent releases’ music before you do this? Padayappa, Baba, Kuselan, Sivaji, Muthu etc.? The very essence of Rajni’s movies are not their Music. It is also music, but everything has to take a backseat when he is around. Noone notices the music when he is on screen- so completely understandable that all the tracks are not like “Roja” or as you say “Slumdog Millionaire” (although I am ashamed of the fact that you think it is a great album. Shows how juvenile your taste is.) Except for a few tracks here and there, most of his songs are amazing only when he is on screen.
Also, explain to me how you would create a “Roja” in Enthiran. The movie’s about a Robot and a scientist who creates it, so even a schmuck can make it up that he can expect a lot of techno music in the album. (your old age makes you hate techno or something? ;) )
Gonna listen to Enthiran with these things in mind.
Endhiran Music Review – If Rahman Farts, is it Still Music?
Emmathitanga… Ayyo, Emmathitanga…
(they’ve cheated us, God, they’ve cheated us).
A BIG disappointment. :(
A.R.Rahman and Shankar have taken Tamil music fans for a ride with the Endhiran album.
Endhiran’s music is nowhere in the class of Rahman’s Slumdog Millionaire or his earlier work in Roja, Bombay, Kadhalan, Dil Se et al.
Not even in the Sivaji class, we tell ya.
None of the songs linger in the mind.
If you’re looking for melody, you’ll have better luck with the echo of your singing under the shower.
Question for Y’all Schmucks
Since we listened to the Endhiran album, a doubt, a big doubt is nagging us, gnawing at our very soul.
Say, if music director A.R.Rahman farts, do folks in Tamil Nadu still consider it music?
Help us out with the above question, please. We beseech you. ;)
It boggles the mind that just a couple of years back this Rahman fella was the toast of the Oscar and Grammy crowd.
Oh, what a fall!
Endhiran on iTunes
The songs of the Rajinikanth-Aishwarya Rai starrer Endhiran have made it to iTunes this morning.
A short while ago, we purchased the Endhiran album for $2.99.
Instead of releasing it as a music album on iTunes, the Think Music folks have launched it as an application on Apple’s iTunes App Store.
Does this mean we can’t play the tracks on our PC?
The swines. :(
Seven Tracks
The Endhiran album on iTunes has seven tracks:
* Pudhiya Manidha (6.10 min) – A slow number, sounds as if the track is being sung by the robot. ;)
S.P.Balasubramaniam, A.R.Rahman and Khatija Rahman have sung this number, perhaps the best of the worst.
Given the Endhira Endhira refrain, is this track the title number?
Sample of the lyrics:
Pudhiya Manidha
Boomikku Vaa
Eggai vaarthu
Silicon serthu
Vayarutti uyirutti
Hard diskil ninaivutti
…..
Endhira
Endhira
* Kadhal Anukkal (5.44 min) – A lifeless, boring track helmed by Vijay Prakash and Shreya Ghoshal.
No, the music didn’t strike a chord with us. Not one bit.
Just felt like hurling our new iPhone 4 at the wall in frustration.
Sample of the lyrics:
Kaadhal annukal
Udambil ethannai?
Neutron electron
un Neela kannil motham ethanai?
Unnai ninaithal
Thisukkal thorum aasai sinthanai
Haiyyo…
* Irumbile Oru Idhaiyam (5.14 m) – Plain Rubbish.
Ayyo, ayyo, yet another sub-mediocre track courtesy of A.R.Rahman and Kash n Krissy.
Sample of the lyrics:
You want to seal my kiss
Boy you can’t touch this
Everybody..Hypnotic Hypnotic…
Super Sonic..
Super Star can’t can’t can’t get this
Irumbile oru irudhaiyam mulaikkudho
……
iRobo un Kadhil
I love you sollatta?
* Boom Boom Robot da (4.27 min) – Noise.
And more noise.
This Robot da number made us so angry we refer to it privately here as the Boom Boom Lava da Boom Boom Lava da song. ;)
Hey, when did yelling become synonymous with music. Will someone please enlighten us.
Yogi B, Kirthi Sagathia, Swetha are the singers.
Sample of the lyrics:
Boom Boom Robot da Robo da Roba da
Zoom Zoom Robot da Robo da Roba da
Isaac Asimovin
Velaiyo robo
Isaac Newtonin
Leelaiyo robo
Albert Einstein
Mulaiyo robo
He robo yo robo…..
* Arima Arima (5.18 min) Yet another forgettable track, begins with trumpets.
The singers are Hariharan and Sadhana Sargam.
And what’s with the howling of Endhira, Endhira toward the end. Awful
Sample of the lyrics:
Ivan perai sonnathan
Perumai sonnathum
Kadalum kadalum kai thattum
…..
Arima Arima – nano
Ayiram arima – unpol
…..
Endhira…! Endhira…!
* Kilimanjaro (5.30 min) Seriously, is this from an Oscar/Grammy award winner.
A most unimpressive track that has a tribal dance feel to it.
Javed Ali and Chinmayi are the singers.
Sample of the lyrics:
Kilimanjaro – malai
Kanimanjaro – kanna
Kuzhimanjaro
Yaro yaro
…..
Mohanjadaro – unnil Nozhanjadaro
* Chitti Dance Showcase (2.43 min)- Just cacophony with Pradeep Vijay, Pravin Mani, Yogi B. at the helm.
Disappointing Album
Is the Endhiran album the stuff of legend?
No, No, No
Folks, the Endhiran album is a ripoff.
Don’t waste your time or money on this noxious gas expulsion from A.R.Rahman.
Show the Endhiran album your middle finger but make sure you hold your nose for the stench is unbearable.
The music of Endhiran has been released all over the world and A.R. Rahman has come up with some of the best music with unusual style. Cinesnacks brings you the music review of Endhiran.
Puthiya Manitha
Vocals: Singers: S. P. Balasubramaniam, A. R. Rahman, Khatija Rahman
Lyrics: Vairamuthu
A.R. Rahman and SPB have worked together for various songs, but this is the first time they have gone to different strata. Their complete voices are computerized in robotic tone. A.R. Rahman’s daughter Khatija has a nice voice at such a young age and she will be best singer in future.
Kadal Anukkal
Vocals: Vijay Prakash & Shreya Ghosal
Lyrics: Vairamuthu
A soothing and enjoyable romantic number with Vijay Prakash and Shreya Ghosal making it sounds nicer over the tracks. The song will be liked right on the first time you hear it. The musical rhythm is good at places.
Irumbile Oru Idhayam
Vocals: A.R. Rahman & Kash ‘n’ Krissy
Lyrics: Madhan Karky
English lyrics: Kash’n’Krissy
The techno beats are pumping and will make you stunned over it. After a long time, A.R. Rahman has chosen to sing two tracks in the same album. Much alike the first number, A.R. Rahman’s voice is modulated over sound engineering and the voice by Kash ‘n’ Krissy is perfect and classy. Sounds like a James Bond kinda of title song.
Chitti Dance Showcase
Vocal: Pradeep Vijay, Praveen Mani and Yogi B
Additional Arrangements and Programming: Praveen Mani
Chitti Dance Showcase is a best of this album. Strongly built over the rap lines and stunning percussions, the song is sure to be a masterpiece among all classes.
Arima Arima
Vocal: Hariharan & Sadhna Sargam
Lyrics: Vairamuthu
Additional Vocals: Benny Dayal, Naresh Iyer
We have a bet. This song will let you wooed for the first time you hear it. If you don’t trust us, you just tune for the song. The vocals, beats and instrumental parts are over the top.
Kilimanjaro
Vocals: Javed Ali and Chinmayee
Lyrics: Vairamuthu
Additional Vocal Arrangements: Clinton Cerejo
Nothing special to mention about the song and the visuals shot in Peru might have some surprises. The photos featuring Rajnikanth and Aishwarya that were released before a year is the same song.
Boom Boom Robo Da
Vocals: Yogi B, Keerthi Sagathia, Swetha Mohan, Tanvi Shah
Lyrics: Madhan Karky
Lightweight rap unlike Chitti Dace Showcase. This is a song that is about praises of Robot, who has arrived in town. Children love him, Girls want a boyfriend like him and Mothers wants a song like him. This is all the song about.
‘Endhiran’ is a special treat for the City people and international music lovers. But when it comes to villagers and town people, it may take some more time.
Im very much disappointed with the music. Except arima nothing else came well. naan kandathu aararivu is ok….This album is just 25% of Sivaji and can rate at 5% comapare to VTV. It is not a failure from Rahman..it is Shankar’s failure. He did not extract good music from Rahman..lyrics are not touching..
Lets wait and see how he picturised the sonds..Also I hope Rajini (hero role) comes with mushtache only
This album has wonderful sound track by AR Rahman. The album begins with “’Pudhiya Manidha” in the voice of S.P. Balasubrahmanyam, AR Rahman and his daughter Khatija Rahman. The next is a poetic love song called “Kadhal Anukkal” in the voice of Vijay Prakash and Shreya Ghoshal.
This is a typical AR Rahman melody. Next is “Irumbilae Oru Idhayam”.
The lyrics of this song are quite touching. “Chitti Dance Showcase” is a western, techno number. This song has heavy beats of electronic drums and divine harmony of violin orchestra. ‘Arima Arima’ is a majestic composition sung by Sadhna Sargam and Hariharan. ‘Kilimanjaro’ sung by Javed Ali and Chinmayi has tribal beats and tribal chanting.
The last track “Boom Boom Robot-da” sung by Krithi Sagathia, Swetha Mohan and Tanvi Shah is a mish-mash of fast techno sounds and a moderately pacey tune.
Hi folks i think those who r fans of rahman will know how the music as came out..
I think that is the problem of rahman if u here the song at first u will dislike the full album saying what piece of shit….and if u keep on hering the song u will become crazy of the song. This is not new to rahman song and not new to his fan so those who not like the song just be paitent and here it for more than 3 to 4 times sure u will like it.
whoever wrote the music review…do note that the song kilimanjaro has been written by pa.vijay and not vairamuthu….no wonder the lyrics sound ametuerish….please get your facts right before critisizing…..
the songs are good….they will grow on you….
I predict the listener’s experience cycle of this album as follows.
1. Upon your first listen, the listener will be confused.
2. Upon repeated listening, the listener will grow to like the album.
3. After months of over exposure to this album on Sun TV and FM radios, the listener will become sick of this album.
4. By the end of this year, the listener will never again want to listen to this album.
5. I predict Vinnai Thandi Varuvaya will have a longer life than this album.
In the few months time, if you took a poll, most of the listeners will have chosen VTV over this Machine!
The Lyricist for the song KILIMANJARO is ‘Pa.Vijay’, not ‘VAIRAMUTHU’…
Better know the details before writing comments on somebody’s work. i.e.,do ur work without flaw, (which is pointing out others).
I believe the film would be like english film iron man ..
Songs sound gr8… Everyone going 2 like this!!
who having the bad review about this album are having no knowledge on international music.they are sticking to the music of copy cats deva, harrish jayaraj.illayaraja music are just folky.who can give music on all topics excellenty than rahman?
this movie is not a annakili, roja, bombay, anniyan,it is a sci fic movie.the music sounds more than any other hollywood movie. If you hear it for three times i assure you that you will stick to it(normally arr is trend setter). If it a hollywood movie, it would get him another oscars surely. It gives a very distinct music which indian cinema never have.we have to be proud on that.excellent number from arr.
Come on guys…you people who say that the music is not good, you dont have any taste at all. I think you guys never listened to western music, he cant always do the same music. AR always tries to do different music and implements different ideas in his music. If he does the same music like Roja or something again, the same people who gave bad comments would say that he is repeating the same music. Because you people are never happy and you are not ready to accept a change. In 2010, you guys cannot expect the same music as in 1990. So please dont give useless reviews.
AR Rahman’s compositions for Shankar have always been chart toppers. Considering the fact that the movie stars Superstar Rajinikanth and is a big budget science fiction movie, Rahman has tried too much of techno beats!
The lyrics by Vairamuthu, his son Karki Madan and Pa. Vijay use scientific words and even science as body of the songs at times. Music dominates in a few songs that lyrics are not so prominent and no wonder the CD box has the lyrics book for the listener to ‘read’!
Puthiya Manidha
Singers: SP. Balasubramaniam, AR. Rahman, Khatijia Rahman
Lyricist: Vairamuthu
Going by the names of the vocalists, it could possibly be the introduction song of the hero. SP Balasubramaniam’s sung most of super star Rajinikanth’s songs and all being super hit! In fact, even for a superstitious sentiment, SPB’s voice is mandatory! ‘Puthiya Manidha’ shows the making of ‘the robot’ in the movie!
‘Puthiya Manidha’ starts with the synthesized voice resembling a robot and slowly AR Rahman chips in with his vocals as though a computer singing! Rahman’s daughter Khatija sings the prelude of the song slowly. And after this prelude the tempo increases gradually with the graceful voice of SPB singing the lyrics. Through out the song, the listener has this feel of being in outer space! The techno beats, the fillers and the electro-chorus all give that ambience.
The song has an attractive music pattern in the background composed by Rahman. He’s given best of compositions for introductions before but somehow thing song doesn’t reach the ‘Rajini standards’ yet all depends on how Shankar presents this on screen. Listen to the song for the ‘robot touch’.
Kadal Anukkal
Singers: Vijay Prakash, Shreya Ghoshal
Lyricist: Vairamuthu
Everything positive about the song! From the beginning till the end! AR Rahman uses the strings amazingly as Vijay Prakash starts singing the duet! As soon as the para starts, the beats used create that positive temperature. Shreya’s voice as usual is fabulous.
Vijay Prakash with the chorus sings the lyrics ‘Oh Baby’ soon after every stanza cantabile. The instrumentation is pleasant with effective percussions as well as harmonious fillers and they are not too jarring. Shreya’s balance of pitch is extraordinary, look at her flow from the low to the high pitch, and no wonder a singer to beckon!
Irumbile Oru Idhaiyam
Singers: AR. Rahman, Kash ‘n’ Krissy
Lyricist: Karki, Kash ‘n’ Krissy (English)
‘Irumbile Oru Idhaiyam’ marks the debut of Karki, Vairamuthu’s son as lyricist. A song that talks about the robot having a heart! Lady Kash and Krissy are talented singers and their services have been used perfectly by AR Rahman. Rahman sings this song himself! The start up of this song might remind you of a popular western number but the majority won’t be aware! The hip-hop beats are classy and the word ’Super Star’ from the ladies sounds amazing!
AR Rahman and Kash n Krissy sing this song with lot of energy as the tempo of the song keeps increasing! The percussions are used effectively. Take notice of Kash n Krissy’s rap, especially their rendition of Tamil!
ARR’s music is truly international. Listen to the glissando in every stanza; he’s tried to infuse the electronic tones to create the ‘robot touch’! Must listen song!
Chitti Dance Showcase
Singers: Pradeep Vijay, Pravin Mani, Yogi B
An instrumental track possibly, an interlude. Rahman is a sheer genius and when it comes to beats, he is incomparable. This track talks about all that, as his instrumentation in the background is classy. Adding to that is Yogi B’s rap and the fusion of Carnatic rendition!
As the song progresses, as soon as the reprise, the tempo varies! So could be a title track but answer awaits only on the screen! The end note: You are missing a musical genius if you don’t listen to this!
Arima Arima
Singers: Hariharan, Sadhana Sargam, Benny Dayal, Naresh Iyer
Lyricist: Vairamuthu
A paean on the hero! The song starts with the rhythms of a royal introduction to the hero! As soon as the chorus diminishes, Hariharan starts the song with a varying modulation. The tempo of the song and its background sound something similar to a previous Rahman’s tune but he’s tried to cover that with obvious modifications.
Sadhana’s humming in the behind when Hariharan sings soothes the listener’s ear. When its her turn, Sadhana has sung it well yet flaws of her Tamil pronunciation can be spotted! The sub verses remind you of old Rahman’s compositions but the fillers change that illusion. A terrific song as it progresses, thanks to Hariharan’s expertise!
Kilimanjaro
Singers: Javed Ali, Chinmayee
Lyricist: Pa. Vijay
A tribal song with tribal beats but the song starts with the usual AR Rahman techno start. Singers Javed Ali and Chinmayee have sung it well. Pa. Vijay has played with words and he’s offered a peppy song with Rahman’s composition giving ample support. The chorus is a vital part of the song as it gives the tribal essence. Listen to the claps in the beginning and at the end, they sound like mouse clicks! The final word – a peppy song that the youth will like.
Boom Boom Robo Da
Singers: Yogi B, Kirthi Sagathia, Swetha Mohan, Tanvi Shah
Lyricist: Karki
A typical hip-hop song, ARR style! Yogi B’s diction and rap forms the core of the song! As the song starts, the instrumental reminds you of a popular ARR composition but like it is said, the modification was ought to be done to remove that doubt. Yogi B’s voice is energetic and he’s made the song lively! Rapping is his strength and check that out in the song! Total class!
Enter female vocals and the beats in the background are classily executed and so are the fillers. The rhythms throughout the song are foot tapping so it would be a delight to see the picturing as Shankar always pictures his song exceedingly well. Check out the musical bit of the song where strings are played alongside the beats! A classy song altogether!
AR Rahman’s Techno Instrumentation
Rahman has always been a composer giving importance to sound and instruments. He’s tried the same but this time with fusion and variety. Grab the ‘Endhiran’ album as it won’t fail to please your music senses.
Endhiran soundtrack is a failure, but I must add that this doesn’t mean ARR has faltered. The man is a talented artist, which shows even in this failed project. There is so much you can do with a limited scope of ‘Robotic’ theme. The lyrics are not soulful. This is how I imagine the lyricists worked, he wrote down all the possible words with references to Artificial Intelligence, Computer technology, robotics etc and assembled the lyrics, like one would assemble a product in a production facility. I bought the Endhiran CD and I couldn’t listen to it more than once (twice actually). Final verdict, the music is not impressive.
PUTHIYA MANIDHA is excellent.
IRUMBILE ORU IDHAYAM is superb.
KILIMANJARO is just above average.
ALL OTHER TRACKS are overrated.
just because it’s composed by ARR for Rajni and Shankar combo, we dont have to mask the reality and praise, praise and praise… i have to tell that this is one of the average albums of ARR. even SILLINU ORU KADHAL was much better.
not even one track from this album can compete with ARR’s previous hit “usire poguthe” from Raavanan.
SIVAJI THE BOSS was an explosion of excellence (music-vise). and ENDHIRAN has come out the biggest joke of the year. Really.
Good music should get into us in the first hearing itself. If the music is good, it will ‘create a feeling’ in us to hear it next time.
The kind of ‘music loving’ suggested by some members (confused in the first stage, top chart after some months… really funny) gives the feeling of online-marketing-of-ARR..
Friends, there was a music director named A.R.Rahman long back, who introduced some creative works for 2-3 films when he started his career here. Now there is nothing left in him, don’t waste your time showering praises on him, it won’t help get things better. His works are becoming unbearable
Endhiran has a good music. I have some more comments about this movie cast crew in this url
Endhiran Pre Release Review
pls listen to the songs again ..Pudhiya Manitha has brilliant orchestration like the ones in english movies ..the soundtrack is brilliant typical rahman because you have never heard music like thi it takes time to grow just like VTV ,people who write comments like the above one just want to hear the same crap music produced by other composre who are afraid to experiment..Rahman hattsfoff keep it going mate
I remember Sujatha from another blog where posted the comment “Songs are very nice and awesome”.
http://coromendalqueen.blogspot.com/2010/08/enthiran-pre-release-review.html
Sujatha is fondly to me as ‘Kokarako’ Sujatha.
Endhiran music is a WASTE. Just download a full blown version of CUBASE or some powerful synthesizer software. This is not professional music work. Why there is no melody these days with Rahman? In the name of “Music Trend”, music without any melody?
Jokers call anything what Rahman does “great”. The person can do much better tunes. Only sincere criticisms can be bring out the best music. He has done memorial songs before. Endhiran is totally opposite. This concept of having to listen something several times before you even get something of a ‘tune’ is ridiculous. Totally amateur work with excess HYPE.
