Airtel Super Singer Junior

Airtel Super Singer Junior – Thamizhagathin Chella Kuralukkana Thedal (the search for the sweet voice of Tamil Nadu) – is a reality show hosted by Vijay TV, a popular Tamil channel of the Star Network. It is a singing talent hunt for the children of age group 6-14. This is the junior version of the Airtel Super Singer show which premiered in 2006. Auditions are held in various parts of Tamil Nadu, India. The show attracts many kids from all over the state and rigourous multi-level selection procedures are done in order to select the contestants for the stage show.

Season 1
The first season of the Airtel Super Singer Junior show premiered in 2007 and was compered by Chinmayi. Of the many kids who auditiones for the show, 25 were selected to go on to the stage show which consisted of a variety of interesting rounds. The judges at the studio were K.S. Chitra and Usha Uthup. Krishnamoorthy emerged the winner after a hard fought finals with an equally brilliant Vignesh, who had an amazing flavor for folk. The other finalists were Saicharan and Aparna(a wild card entrant.the airtel super singer junior had a very tough competition.

Season 2

The second season of the premiered in 2009. The show was initially compered by Divyadharshini during the audition rounds. This role was then handed over to Divya, a former VJ, who hosted the stage show consisting of the final 25 contestants. The judges are K.S. Chitra, Mano and Malgudi Subha. The voice trainer is Ananth Vaidyanathan. This season’s show unlike the first one has been a target of many controversies regarding judgement of contestants which has marred the show’s reputation. Consensus on various online forums indicate a strong preference for contestant Priyanka as finalist, a contestant noted for her impeccable singing and outstandingly melodious voice, but who was eliminated shortly before the semi-finals. Transparency of results of the Wild Card Round has also been subject to much criticism, with viewers highlighting that judges failed to provide the factual breakdown of votes actually received by the contestants and had instead pre-determined the last finalist. [3]. Views have been aired that both wild card winners, Srikanth and Nithyashree, were selected to promote viewership. Finalists are: Shravan, Roshan, Alka, Srikanth & Nithyashree, making it the first time in the competition that 5 contestants will be heading to the finals. To add to the controversy, it has been noted that Priyanka still holds the maximum number votes in the poll at http://www.southdreamz.com/cast-your-vote, much higher than finalist contestant Alka Ajith. Both Priyanka’s and Srinisha’s votes continued to increase even after they were eliminated from the show.

SHOW HIGHLIGHTS

The Last Semi Final round lets 3 of the contestants to enter the Finals. The competition was really tough because the contest would not only compete each others but they would sing with 3 professional playback singers in carnatic,melody and western musics. Shrawan and Alka successfully emerged as top 2 contestants and were qualified for finals then the two least scorers : Roshan (68 marks) and Nithyashree (60 marks) have to compete each other in a 1 minute rapid fire rounds and Roshan was qualified for the finals.

Wild Card Results – 3/6/2010

Wildcard Winners as announced by the judges were Srikanth and Nithyashree and will enter the finals along with Alka Ajith, Roshan and Shravan. The wild card results created a lot of frustrations and disappointments among Vijay TV viewers citing that the public votes were manipulated and played no role in the results. Expectations were extremely high and various blogs were very much in favour of the wild card winner as Priyanka followed by Srinisha.
