And again, Karan’s potentiality has been washed out as ‘Kanagavel Kakka’ doesn’t establish a perfect show for him. The film is nothing but a blatant recollection of those flicks that starkly based on socio-commercial films.
Say for instances, the film has lots of similarities from Rajnikanth’s ‘Naan Sigappu Manithan’, Vijayakanth starrer ‘Ramana’ and so on.
It looks like Karan feels himself special for having chosen unusual roles that in no way takes him to the next level.
‘Kanagavel Kakka’ features Karan as a Tawali working in court, where he comes across various cases that favors rich groups against the needy seeking justice. Nothing seems to be indifferent in plot as the protagonist starts handling justice in his own terms by bumping off every unjust baddies. Back in time, a flashback reveals that he had a bad time as a atrocious politician (Kota Srinivasa Rao) had stamped out his family members.
Out on predictable lines, the second hour is all about how the protagonist seeks revenge by hatching smart plans.
We have some advice for Karan. It’s good to witness his challenging attempts, but it’s better if he can choose some unparalleled scripts instead of trying to ape mass commercial heroes. He could have avoided shaking legs with his ladylove in the foreign locations as it trivializes his image. During some sequences, he really gets on for a better exhibition by emoting stupendously. One such sequence can be his plans to get hold of Kota Srinivasa Rao while he is munching Biryani amidst of fasting.
Actress Hari Priya hasn’t got anything to prove here as she does the same-old acts of running behind hero and falling for him. Kota Srinivasa Rao is at his best and deserves special mention with Sampath falls short of expectations.
Vijay Anthony’s music is most uncollectible than ever as none of the tunes are even worth hearing once.
This film may be received well by few groups that still adore heroes fighting against injustice while others have got nothing to do with this.
What works: Karan, Kota Srinivasa Rao
What doesn’t work: Old story, boring screenplay and technical arenas…

Kanagavel Kakka Music review – More sound and loud
After ‘Vettaikkaran’, Vijay Antony has emerged a sought-after music composer in Tamil Cinema. Even before that, the success of songs like ‘Naaka Mukka…’ and ‘Aathi Chudi…’ has made people expect such racy and peppy tracks from him. And he has delivered them in ‘Kanagavel Kakka’, without disappointing the music-buffs.
With the likes of Sangeetha, Anand, Srilekha Parthasarathi, Divya Vijay, M K Balaji, Benny Dayal and Mahesh Vinayakaram rendering their voice, it is a youthful album quite typical of Vijay Antony. Snehan, Nellai Jeyantha and Vijay Antony himself have penned the lyrics.
Directed by Kavin Bala, ‘Kanagavel Kakka’ features Karan, Haripriya, Kota Srinivasa Rao, Raj Kapoor and others. The album has five songs and a theme music bit.
1. Tring Tring – Singer: Sangeetha
Penned by Snehan, it is a good beginning in the album. Sangeetha has sung with amazing energy. Due credit should be given to Snehan for penning the lyrics with such youthfulness all through. It is a high-spirited number.
2. Paniyara Konda – Singer: Anand, Srilekha Parthasarathi
A catchy number penned by Snehan again. Peppy and pacy throughout, it is the song that would be lapped up by the masses instantly. Splendid rhythms, lively sounds and good use of nadaswaram makes it a perfect catchy number.
3. Indha Kadhal – Singer: Divya Vijay, M K Balaji
Nellai Jeyantha is known for easy lyrics that can stick to lips instantly. He has not disappointed this time. The song is like a gentle breeze blowing through the window on a winter evening. The rhythms are good to listen to. Both Divya Vijay and M K Balaji excel.
4. Suthugira Boomi – Singer: Benny Dayal
Snehan is at it again. This time a song that is about life in a village. A folkish melody, the song is attractive for it has good use of rhythms. Benny Dayal sings it with more grace.
5. Minsarame – Singer: Sangeetha, Mahesh Vinayakaram
The composer himself has penned the lyrics. A racy and roaring number from, it has Vijay Antony stamp almost everywhere. More of heavy percussion and beats, the song has something in it to reach instantly the front-benchers. Vijay Antony seems to be developing an easy knack coming out with such songs.
6. Theme Music – Vijay Antony
A short bit perhaps comes whenever the hero appears on screen. Drums and trumpet blow all through.
It’s the usual Vijay Antony all through the album. He has given what people want – racy and rhythmic numbers. To sum it up, the music in ‘Kanagavel Kakka’ is catchy and easy to listen without complication.
