Thalaivasal Vijay
Burglars struck at the Kodambakkam residence of ‘Thalaivasal’ Vijay and decamped with 53 sovereigns of gold jewels and Rs 25,000 cash in the wee hours of Friday.
The incident came to light around 4 a.m. when the actor’s son, Jayavanth, a swimmer, got up to go for his swimming class. On seeing the front door broken and the almirahs looted, he alerted his parents.
Following a complaint lodged by Vijay with the police, senior officials including Assistant Commissioner Kannabiran rushed to the spot. Sniffer dogs were pressed into service and fingerprint experts were called in. Special police teams were formed to nab the culprits.
Says the actor, “the burglars had broken open the front door to gain entry. At around 12.30 am, when I got up to attend nature’s call, I found my room locked. I called my wife on her mobile phone and she opened the door. Now I realise that the burglars had locked the door from outside.”
Talking to media persons, Joint Commissioner of Police Sakthivel, said, “Investigations are on. We will track down the culprits soon.”
