Followed by grand success of ‘Dasavatharam’ and ‘Vaaranam Aayiram’, producer Ravindran of Aascar Films seems to have changed his paradigms on churning out new-patterned flicks based in the backdrops of cosmopolitan scenarios.
Here’s ‘Leelai’, featuring debutants Shiv and Maansi in lead roles. Andrew Louis, once an associate of SJ Suryah makes his debut directorial with this flick while Satish Chakravarthy, who assisted A.R. Rahman on various projects, takes on for his debut too.
Well, the melodic numbers of ‘Leelai’ is quite commendable as well mixed with mediocre.
Jilendru Oru Kalavaram
Vocal: Satish Chakravarthy
Lyrics: Satish Chakravarthy
Right on the first track, you’ll have clear-cut outlooks about this debutant Satish Chakravarthy. It’s patently not about tuning peppy-romantic solo, but he has crooned with his fantastic voice. The rhythmic patterns are repeated off through the song and sound mixing has been performed enormously as well the chorus part.
Oru Kili Oru Kili
Vocals: Shreya Ghoshal & Satish Chakravarthy
Lyrics: Vaali
The songs remind us with the similar beat of ‘Akkam Pakkam’ from Kireedom while the vocalized part is much alike ‘Enadhuriye’ from Bheema. But mark our words! This is almost as you ‘a slow poison’ that will get transfixed forever you keep heeding to it repeatedly. The instrumentals, especially the running notes of stringed instruments on accompaniments are over-the-top. Satish Chakravarthy has completely shifted his paradigms from previous number. You need no descriptions about Shreya Ghosal when she’s on a melodious number.
Ponmalai Pozhudu
Vocals: Benny Dayal
Lyrics: Satish Chakravarthy
A refreshing number to catch at anytime: Perhaps, Benny Dayal seems to have been hyper-activated on the tracks. But his voice slightly drifts down unable to go up with the rhythmic beats. Satish could’ve better opted for Karthik who carries the ability of making this sound much more enhanced. Satish’s lyrical lines are quite interesting and there’s slight resemblance of Rahman’s traits on fill-ins and choruses.
Unnai Partha Pinbhu
Vocals: Haricharan & Marrianne
Lyrics: Vaali
Usually pathos doesn’t grab your attention at an ease. Satish seems to have slightly faltered on maintaining the steadfast pattern maintained in previous number. Haricharan excels on his part of touching various pitches. Maybe, the song may savor to audiences’ tastes with accordance to visuals.
Bubble Gum
Vocals: Benny Dayal, Sunitha Sarathy, Suvi & Leon James
Lyrics: Pa. Vijay
‘Bubble Gum’ is nothing but already-chewed hip-hop fangled songs you would’ve heard million times before. One may really wonder how come Pa. Vijay pens such middling lyrics.
Oru Kili Oru Kili (Reprise)
Vocal: Satish Chakravarthy
Lyrics: Vaali
The song doesn’t carry much percussion and is completely based on stringed instruments much more than the previous version. Satish Chakravarthy spells out each line with enhanced lucidness. Over here, you’re sure to hear the lyrics of Vaali so clearly.
On whole, Satish Chakravarthy is a new guy to watch in town. The debutant kick-starts with a decent job on the panoramas of music as well lyrics… But, if he had tuned it right better with ‘Bubble Gum’, then ‘Leelai’ would’ve been a chartbuster at audio markets.
Verdict: Perfectly tuned with few slips
