It sure should be fun to catch all our theatre classics back on the stage again. And yes, this doesn’t seem like the far fetched dream of a theatre buff anymore.
Most popular stage plays of the past like ‘Vietnam Veedu’, ‘Ashoka’, ‘Ratha Kanneer’ and much more will be performed on stage again. This is due to an initiative by the Nadigar Sangam, which will hold a weeklong theatre festival from August 15 to 23.
This is one of the top items in the agenda of the new working committee of the Nadigar Sangam: to bring back the theatre culture and promote popular theatre artistes. Announcing that the weeklong festival would be held for this as a first measure, President Sarathkumar said popular film artistes will also be part of the stage extravaganza.
“Vijayakumar, Radha Ravi and I will be part of the plays as well, performing on the last day. Superstar Rajinikanth has agreed to be the guest of honour for this event,” he revealed.
