Director Samuthirakani
Here’s what we can poetic justice. Director Samuthirakani approached a big heroine to play the female lead in his film, ‘Naadodigal’, but the actress turned the offer down saying she could not converse with the director as he didn’t know English.
The director has definitely taken this criticism too personally. In a bid to prove his point that language is no barrier in filmmaking, he has roped in a girl who is deaf and dumb by birth to play the heroine. A debutant, Abinaya’s performance, Samuthirakani says, will break the barriers of communication.
‘Naadodigal’ is a film based on the lives of four friends whose lives take a turn after a shocking incident. Director of ‘Subramaniapuram’, Sasikumar plays the lead in the film, which is being produced by Global International. Playing his love in the film is Abhinaya.
Interestingly, the character she plays in the film is not deaf or dumb. The director has made her understand and lip sync for her dialogues, while he has had a dubbing artiste to speak for the actress.
At a time when filmmakers are making films on disabilities, Samuthirakani has sure proven his point that physical disabilities are hardly any disability.
