It is the custom at most Kerala temples that women should wear sarees or the traditional dress during their darshan, while men wear the mundu without shirt. Be it politicians or actors, many celebrities have evoked unnecessary controversies in the past after breaching the dress code in Kerala temples.

Now, South India’s glamourous Nayantara is the latest. She was forced to apologize to locals after she entered a temple in Kerala wearing a churidar-kameez.

Sources said Nayantara was on her way to a shoot location of her ongoing Malayalam film Bodyguard near Ottapalam in Palakkad, when she stopped her car for a darshan at Manissery Bhagawathy temple in Killikavu. She entered the temple, ignoring the temple rules that women are permitted inside the temple premises only in traditional dress, i.e. saree.

When some people tried to prevent her from entering the shrine, the actress started an argument them and even managed to get inside. After about 10 minutes, Nayantara came out of the temple; by that time, everything had gone out of her control.

People turned violent and mobbed her car. Moreover, they demanded an apology from her for entering the temple wearing a churidar-kameez, which they, said was against custom. The people allowed her to leave only after she apologized, sources said.
