Looks like our filmmakers are quite tired making commercial films. Finally, they are getting opened to various genres and now what’s ruling the town is the genre of ‘Period’ Films. Bollywood has been peaking with such genres over for a long time. Well, in Kollywood it’s been merely Priyadarshan and Mani Rathnam who made ‘Sirai Chaalai’ and ‘Iruvar’.
But now there are whole lot of filmmakers who have geared up with more period films. Vijay’s ‘Madrasapattinam’, Priyadarshan’s ‘Kanchivaram’ and Chimbu Devan’s ‘Irumbu Kottai Murattu Singam’ are the pioneering efforts of this year.
Priyadarshan’s ‘Kanchivaram’ will be hitting screens tomorrow in Tamil Nadu. The film is all about a silk weaver Vengadam (Prakash Raj) dwelling in poverty during the pre-independence era. He vows his daughter child that he will gift her silk sari for her marriage. But it isn’t an easy deal for him even after 19 years as he keeps stealing single strand everyday from his workplace.
Vijay’s ‘Madrasapattinam’ has Aarya enacting the role of carefree boy in pre-independence era and a British Actress has been roped in for playing his ladylove.
Chimbu Devan’s ‘Irumbu Kottai Murattu Singam’ is a cowboy style of movie placed at the backdrops of 17th century.
Let’s hope that these genres are well received from the audiences.
Perhaps, we would like to know your viewers whether it would be a successful endeavor getting through such genres.
