In a completely unexpected turn of events, the Chennai police have announced that the Vadapalani Psycho killings are linked to not one person but a gang of seven people. The police have arrested two persons, who allegedly admitted that they along with their gang members, had killed the people for money to buy drugs and liquor.
Those arrested were part of a gang suspected to be involved in the successive murders that took place in K.K. Nagar, Vadapalani, Kumaran Nagar and adjoining areas.
A special team was patrolling the Saidapet area late on Wednesday when two persons were trying to escape after snatching a gold chain from a cycle shop owner. Police apprehended the accused who were identified as V. Subbu alias Subramani (26) of Kannamapettai Corporation Colony and S. Nagarajan alias Karuppu Nagu (26) of West Mambalam.
When questioned separately, Nagu confessed that the group was responsible for the July 14 murder in Koyambedu in which the victim was left burning. He also confessed to another murder thus claiming responsibility for two of the seven gruesome killings in the city since June last week.
Dismissing perceptions that the murders, including that of two security guards, a rag-picker and a beggar, were committed by a “psycho” killer, Chennai Police Commissioner R Sekar said there was no psycho angle as feared by people.
